Corey Davis: May not return to playing
Davis has decided he doesn't want to return to the NFL, Sal Capaccio of WGR Sports Radio 550 Buffalo reports.
After announcing his retirement last August, Davis applied for reinstatement this March and was subsequently released by the Jets so that he could pursue an opportunity elsewhere. The wideout had a tryout with the Bills this week, but it appears that nothing will come of it given Cappacio's report. Davis is only 29 years old, but it was never a given that he'd land a significant role with an NFL club if he did decide to return given that he hasn't suited up since 2022.

Corey Davis: Gets tryout with Buffalo
The Bills hosted Davis for a tryout Wednesday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
Davis retired last August while he was with the Jets, but he applied for reinstatement to the NFL back in March, and he's now attempting to latch on with a new AFC East team. Buffalo could be looking to replace the big-bodied Chase Claypool (toe) at training camp, as he landed on season-ending injured reserve Tuesday. If Davis signs with the Bills, he could push fellow veterans Mack Hollins, Marquez Valdes-Scantling and KJ Hamler for a depth role in the receiver room.

Corey Davis: Officially released by Jets
The Jets officially released Davis from the reserve/retired list Thursday.
This transaction comes on the heels of Davis applying for reinstatement from the NFL earlier Thursday. In the later stages of the 2023 preseason, he announced his retirement, but the now 29-year-old has put himself on a path to returning to the highest form of pro football. In two campaigns with the Jets between 2021 and 2022, Davis hauled in 66 of 123 targets for 1,028 yards and six touchdowns in 22 games.

Corey Davis: Planning NFL return
Davis has applied for reinstatement to the NFL and the Jets are expected to release him from the reserve/retired list Thursday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
Davis could also return to New York on a new contract, after he stepped away from the team and into retirement last August. The 29-year-old wideout put up a 32-536-2 line in his last played season, when he suited up for 13 games with the Jets back in 2022. He should be able to contribute as a depth receiver as long as it doesn't take too long to catch back up to speed, whether he ultimately re-ups with New York or lands elsewhere.
