NFC West Schedule Breakdown: Seattle Seahawks

Player Outlook
Is it over for Kupp? The Seahawks don't seem to think so after signing him soon after the Rams released him this offseason, but the film suggests he's nowhere near the same receiver he once was. He's still got good size, great hands and good footwork with the nuance to win against man coverage with leverage, but last season he lost any advantage he had with his speed and explosiveness. He couldn't accelerate, likely the result of so many leg injuries he suffered including a high-ankle sprain last season. The injury didn't completely crush his numbers -- there was a seven-week span where he averaged 9.1 targets and 18 PPR points per game before completely vanishing in his final five, playoffs included. Perhaps reports from the Seahawks will suggest Kupp is in better shape. That would be nice, but unexpected. If he can get his timing right with Sam Darnold and also stay healthy (a big if -- he's missed at least five games in each of his past three seasons), he could contribute as a low-end No. 3 WR in full-PPR formats. It's best to draft him as a bench receiver. If it's Round 8 or earlier, let someone else take him.

  • Seahawks' Cooper Kupp: No targets in preseason debut

Kupp started Friday's preseason tilt against the Chiefs, but he did not receive a target during his brief appearance. Kupp made his official debut with the Seahawks after switching allegiances within the NFC West this past offseason. The veteran superstar had little to do in his one drive of action after Zach Charbonnet (5-45-1) stole the show on the ground. The end of Kupp's tenure with the Rams saw his production dwarfed by injury, with his last 1,000-yard season coming during his MVP run in 2021. The 32-year-old will look for a fresh start while starting opposite Jaxon Smith-Njigba and catching passes from Sam Darnold in 2025.

  • Seahawks' Cooper Kupp: Set to sit preseason opener

Kupp and the rest of the Seahawks' starters won't play in Thursday's preseason opener against the Raiders, Brady Henderson of ESPN.com reports. We'll have to wait to see how well Kupp functions with Sam Darnold in the Seahawks' new offense under offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak. Kupp has missed 18 games over the past three seasons, but he still was impressive when healthy last year with three 100-yard performances and six touchdowns over 12 regular-season games. However, he's now 32 years old and is expected to be the No. 2 wideout behind Jaxon Smith-Njigba.

  • Seahawks' Cooper Kupp: Finds new home in Pacific Northwest

The Seahawks and Kupp agreed to terms of a contract Friday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports. Per Adam Schefter of ESPN, it's a three-year deal for Kupp, who spent the first eight seasons of his career with the Rams. Kupp will join a receiving corps that moved on from DK Metcalf (traded to the Steelers) and Tyler Lockett (released) this offseason, meaning he'll be working with third-year pro Jaxon Smith-Njigba and veteran vertical threat Marquez Valdes-Scantling in an offense led by new QB Sam Darnold. Since his standout 145-1,947-16 performance on 191 targets in 2021, Kupp hasn't surpassed 75 catches, 812 yards or six touchdowns in any of the ensuing three campaigns while missing 18 regular-season contests during that span.

  • Cooper Kupp: Unlikely to sign with Dallas?

David Moore of The Dallas Morning News reports that the Cowboys aren't in the mix to sign Kupp, despite ESPN's Adam Schefter reporting otherwise Friday morning. Schefter referred to the Cowboys as a "sleeper team that has emerged and is now making a push" to sign Kupp, while Moore says "it won't happen" after talking to a person with "knowledge of the club's thinking." We may never know which report was accurate, unless, of course, Kupp ends up signing with the Cowboys. Other reports have suggested a number of teams are interested, which makes sense given the weak free-agent crop of wide receivers. Kupp turns 32 in June and hasn't played more than 12 regular-season games in a year since 2021, but he should at least remain useful as a possession receiver for another year or three.

  • Cooper Kupp: Talking with Cowboys

The Cowboys are pushing to sign Kupp, would may decide on his next team as soon as Friday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. The Rams released Kupp on Wednesday, with subsequent reports suggesting numerous teams are interested in signing him. That's no surprise, considering he mostly remained productive when he wasn't injured last year and now becomes arguably the top WR in an extremely weak free-agent class. On the other hand, he'll turn 32 this summer, missed at least five games each of the past three seasons, and finished 2024 with career lows of 10.6 yards per catch and 7.1 yards per target. There's also the matter of his best fit being the slot, where CeeDee Lamb has done a large portion of his damage in recent years. Granted, that's a better problem than the Cowboys' current problem of not having enough talent alongside Lamb.

  • Rams' Cooper Kupp: Plans to continue playing career

Kupp said Monday that he plans to continue his playing career next season but admitted he's not sure if it will be with the Rams, Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com reports. "I feel like I've got a lot of good football left in me," Kupp said. "I'll be playing football next year. That much I know. ... I don't have any clarity on what that's going to look like or anything like that. So yeah, obviously would love to be in L.A., but I don't know what that's going to look like." Kupp turns 32 years old in June and is coming off a slow finish to the 2024 season, as he ceded the clear WR1 role to Puka Nacua. Kupp is under contract through 2026, but the Rams could opt to cut him before a $5 million roster bonus is due in March. Designating Kupp as a post-June 1 cut would clear $15 million in cap space and leave behind $14.78 million in dead money. If he's not designated as a post-June 1 cut, the Rams would eat $22.26 million in dead cap hit, clearing just $7.52 million. In pure cash terms, releasing Kupp saves Los Angeles $15 million. If the Rams opt to move on from Kupp, Jordan Whittington makes for a natural in-house replacement out of the slot.

  • Rams' Cooper Kupp: Five catches in playoff defeat

Kupp caught five of seven targets for 61 yards in Sunday's 28-22 NFC divisional-round loss to the Eagles. Kupp's 30-yard catch in the third quarter exceeded his receiving yardage total from each of the previous four games, but his season-ending touchdown drought reached five games as the Rams were knocked out of the playoffs. There is a potential out in Kupp's contract prior to the 2025 season, and the Rams will have to consider using it rather than bringing the veteran wide receiver back for his age-32 season at a $29.78 million cap hit given Kupp's poor finish to the campaign. Kupp caught 67 of 100 targets for 710 yards and six touchdowns in 12 regular-season appearances but added only six catches for 90 yards in two playoff games.

  • Rams' Cooper Kupp: Makes lone catch count

Kupp caught his lone target for 29 yards during the Rams' 27-9 wild-card victory over the Vikings on Monday night. The veteran wideout saw his playing time reduced significantly in the Rams' playoff opener, taking the field for just 29 out of 53 snaps on offense. Kupp's only catch of the contest came in the third quarter, converting a third-and-long to set up a Joshua Karty 44-yard field goal. While Kupp's quiet performance may be concerning, it came on a night in which Tyler Higbee (chest) led the team with 58 yards receiving on just 12 snaps, so the Rams' passing attack as a whole was fairly muted. Kupp will have a chance to bounce back in the divisional round against the Eagles.

  • Rams' Cooper Kupp: Late-season slump continues

Kupp caught three of four targets for 24 yards in Sunday's 19-9 win over the Jets. Kupp has faded at the worst possible time for fantasy managers, with just 24 yards on seven targets in Weeks 15 and 16 combined. Puka Nacua has 153 receiving yards on 17 targets over that span, so Nacua has pulled away from Kupp as the clear No. 1 option in the passing game. Kupp and the Rams will be back in Los Angeles for a Week 17 home game against the Cardinals, which should help the entire passing offense get back on track after struggling in the cold confines of MetLife Stadium.

  • Rams' Cooper Kupp: Bounces back in win

Kupp recorded five receptions on eight targets for 92 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 44-42 win over the Bills. Kupp was overshadowed by Puka Nacua's 162-yard performance, but he had a solid showing of his own while operating as the Rams' big-play threat. He had long receptions of 37 and 24 yards and also found the end zone on a 17-yard reception late in the third quarter. After combining to record only 77 yards across his last two games, this was a needed bounceback performance for Kupp, though he is still clearly operating behind Nacua as the second option in the passing game.

  • Rams' Cooper Kupp: Notches fifth TD on SNF

Kupp hauled in eight of 11 targets for 60 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 37-20 loss to the Eagles. Fellow wideout Puka Nacua (9-117-0) led the Rams in all receiving categories, but it was Kupp who cashed in one of two passing touchdowns for Los Angeles. The MVP of Super Bowl LVI is now up to five touchdowns in seven healthy games this season. Kupp and Nacua should continue complementing each other as star teammates when the Rams visit the Saints next Sunday.

  • Rams' Cooper Kupp: Goes for 11-104-0 on Sunday

Kupp corralled 11 of 14 targets for 104 yards in Sunday's 26-20 win over the Seahawks. Kupp went for 5-51-1 in his return from an ankle injury last week, and he improved on those totals with Sunday's 11-catch effort. The 31-year-old survived trade rumors in recent weeks to remain Matthew Stafford's favorite target in a tight victory. Fellow starter Puka Nacua was ejected from Sunday's tilt in the first half, but both receivers figure to be available for a Monday Night Football matchup against Miami in Week 10.

  • Rams' Cooper Kupp: Five catches in return

Kupp (ankle) brought in five of eight targets for 51 yards and a touchdown in the Rams' 30-20 win over the Vikings on Thursday night. Kupp was second to fellow returnee Puka Nacua (knee) across the board in his receiving line, but the former was the only one of the two to find the end zone. Kupp recorded a seven-yard touchdown grab early in the second quarter, the second score of his injury-shortened campaign. Provided trade rumors that have been circulating about Kupp prove inaccurate, the veteran wideout should once again be in for a key role during a Week 9 road matchup against the division-rival Seahawks on Sunday, Nov. 3.

  • Rams' Cooper Kupp: Cleared for return Thursday

Kupp (ankle) doesn't have an injury designation for Thursday's game against Minnesota, Adam Caplan of SiriusXM NFL Radio reports. Kupp is officially in the clear to make his first appearance since Week 2 after he was listed as a full participant in walk-throughs Monday and Tuesday and in Wednesday's practice. Fellow Rams wideout Puka Nacua (knee) is listed as questionable but has yet to be activated from injured reserve, while rookie receiver Jordan Whittington (shoulder) has been ruled out for the Week 8 contest.

  • Rams' Cooper Kupp: Expected to play Thursday

Coach Sean McVay said after Sunday's 20-15 win over the Raiders that he expects Kupp (ankle) to play Thursday against the Vikings, Adam Grosbard of the Orange County Register reports. Kupp logged three consecutive limited practices leading up to Sunday's win but ultimately was ruled out after being listed as questionable Friday. The team was evidently pleased with what it saw from Kupp in practice, as the star receiver's expected to see his first action since Week 2 when the Rams return to action Thursday against the Vikings. Kupp's status leading up to the game still will be worth tracking, though the Rams may hold walkthroughs rather than full practices on a short week.

  • Rams' Cooper Kupp: Sitting out another contest

Kupp (ankle) is listed as inactive Sunday versus the Raiders, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports. Kupp has been sidelined since the first half of a Week 2 loss at Arizona due to a left high-ankle sprain. He's missed three games in the meantime, but following the Rams' Week 6 bye, he was able to log three consecutive limited sessions and potentially set himself up for a return to action. Having said that, Kupp's questionable tag came with a grain of salt, as coach Sean McVay was tepid regarding the wide receiver's status all week, per Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com. Adam Schefter of ESPN then reported earlier Sunday that Kupp wasn't likely to play, and after a pregame warmup, he'll sit out another contest. Kupp's next chance to suit up is Thursday against the Vikings, while Jordan Whittington (shoulder), Tutu Atwell, Demarcus Robinson, Tyler Johnson and Xavier Smith will man L.A.'s receiving corps Week 7.

  • Rams' Cooper Kupp: Trending toward sitting Sunday

Kupp (ankle) remains listed as questionable but appears unlikely to play Sunday versus the Raiders, sources tell Adam Schefter of ESPN. Kupp missed the Rams' final three games before the team's Week 6 bye with a left high-ankle sprain, but he took his first meaningful steps forward in his recovery from the injury by returning to practice this week as a limited participant. Though head coach Sean McVay said coming out of Friday's session that Kupp still had a chance to play Sunday, the Rams are seemingly leaning toward holding the wideout out for one more contest. According to Schefter, Kupp is scheduled to go through a pregame warmup before the Rams make any decisions on his status, but for the time being, the expectation is that he'll be included on the team's inactive list ahead of the 4:05 p.m. ET kickoff.

  • Rams' Cooper Kupp: Possible game-time decision

Kupp (ankle) is questionable for Sunday's matchup with the Raiders and may come down to a game-time decision, Adam Grosbard of The Orange County Register reports. Kupp last played Week 2 and returned to practice this week as a limited participant coming out of a bye. The Rams have two games coming up in a five-day stretch, hosting the Vikings on Thursday after Sunday's matchup with the Raiders. Head coach Sean McVay said Friday that Kupp "had a good week," and "there's a possibility" he'll play Sunday, per Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com.

  • Rams' Cooper Kupp: Stays limited at practice

Kupp (ankle) was limited in practice Thursday, Adam Caplan of SiriusXM NFL Radio reports. During the open portion of Thursday's session, Kupp seemed to be mimicking his activity level from one day prior, which has been confirmed on the Rams' second Week 7 injury report. He's seeking to return to action for the first time since Week 2, when he initially suffered a left high-ankle sprain. Coach Sean McVay told Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com on Wednesday that Kupp was "trending in the right direction, but we'll see exactly what that means as the week progresses." Ultimately, Friday's report will unveil how much of a chance Kupp has to suit up again Sunday against the Raiders.

  • Rams' Cooper Kupp: Individual work on tap Wednesday

Rams head coach Sean McVay said Kupp (ankle) will participate in individual drills but not team work during Wednesday's practice, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports. Kupp likely will go down as a limited participant in his first practice since he sustained a left high-ankle sprain Week 2 against the Cardinals. On Monday, McVay was non-committal about Kupp returning to action Week 7, according to Gary Klein of the Los Angeles Times. At the very least, logging on-field work Wednesday is a decent sign for Kupp, but how he feels after the session may be the more telling sign for his availability, or lack thereof, Sunday versus the Raiders.
