Dean Lowry: Not officially back with Pittsburgh
Lowry has now decided to take additional time to work his way back into shape after it was reported Sunday that he had re-signed with the Steelers, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Despite not taking a physical, Rapoport added that Lowry has been fully cleared to return from a knee injury that sidelined him for all of last season. The 2016 fourth-round pick spent 2024 with the Steelers, appearing in 12 regular-season games and recording five total tackles and one pass defensed across 177 total snaps (148 on defense, 29 on special teams).

Steelers' Dean Lowry: Returning to Pittsburgh
Lowry (knee) is slated to sign with the Steelers, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Lowry suffered a knee injury in early August 2025, rendering him unable to play for the entire season. The defensive end last played for the Steelers in 2024, producing five tackles, including 1.0 sacks, over a 12-game span. The 31-year-old should provide cheap and experienced depth to the Steelers' defensive line as the team prepares for the 2026 season.

Steelers' Dean Lowry: Off PUP list
Lowry (pectoral) returned to the team from the active/PUP list Sunday.
Lowry was placed on the list July 24. The defensive end signed with the Steelers in March after being released by the Vikings earlier that month. The veteran played in nine games last year before tearing his pectoral muscle and missing the rest of the season.

The Steelers placed Lowry (pectoral) on the active/PUP list Wednesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Lowry was released by the Vikings on March 12 after appearing in just nine regular-season games before sustaining a torn pectoral muscle injury in 2023. He signed with the Steelers on March 25 to provide depth on the defensive line, but the 2016 fourth-round pick out of Northwestern will begin training camp on the sidelines. Lowry's most impactful season came in 2021 with the Packers, when he registered 42 tackles (24 solo), including a career-high 5.0 sacks, along with four passes defended and one fumble recovery across 17 regular-season games.
