Eagles' Zach Ertz: Signs deal with Eagles
Ertz signed with the Eagles' practice squad Tuesday, Chris McPherson of the team's official site reports.
Adam Schefter of ESPN reported Monday that the 35-year-old Ertz would sign with the Eagles as a member of the practice squad, and that was confirmed a day later. Ertz, who won his lone Super Bowl ring and earned each of his three Pro Bowl nods as a member of the Eagles from 2013 through 2021, may need some time to get back up to full speed after tearing his ACL last December and then not participating in training camp with a team. Once he's fully ramped up, Ertz could settle in as the Eagles' top tight end with Dallas Goedert (knee) facing a multi-week absence and with Eli Stowers (quadriceps/hamstring) and Grant Calcaterra (back) already on injured reserve.

Zach Ertz: Joins Eagles practice squad
Ertz is signing with Philadelphia's practice squad, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Dallas Goedert is expected to miss multiple weeks due to an MCL sprain he suffered in Sunday's 24-20 win over the Titans. With both Grant Calcaterra (back) and rookie second-rounder Eli Stowers (hamstring) also on injured reserve, the Eagles have opted to bring back a familiar face in Ertz, a second-round selection of the franchise in the 2013 NFL Draft. Johnny Mundt and E.J. Jenkins are the only healthy tight ends on the Eagles' 53-man roster, so Ertz could be elevated from the practice squad for Philadelphia's Week 3 road tilt against Chicago on Monday, Sept. 28.

Zach Ertz: Cleared for football activities
Ertz (knee) has been cleared for all football activities and intends to play during the upcoming campaign, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Ertz tore his ACL early last December, but he's made enough progress in his rehab to be deemed medically ready to practice. Per Schefter, the veteran tight end worked out with former NFL quarterback and college teammate Andrew Luck on Tuesday and is looking to sign with a team in mid-August. He's currently 36 years old but should nonetheless have appeal to tight end-needy teams, as Ertz was productive in racking up 1,158 yards and 11 touchdowns on 116 receptions across 30 games over the last two seasons with the Commanders.

Commanders' Zach Ertz: Plans to play, targeting Week 1
Ertz (knee) intends to play in 2026 and is expected to be cleared close to Week 1, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Ertz suffered a torn ACL in Week 14, making it plausible that he could be healthy to begin next season, roughly nine months after his injury. The 35-year-old tight end could also easily start the 2026 campaign on the PUP list, however. An impending free agent, Ertz might need to find a new employer in addition to managing his rehab. Across 13 regular-season appearances with the Commanders in 2025, he secured 50 of 72 targets for 504 yards and four scores. Washington general manager Adam Peters said Tuesday at the NFL Scouting Combine that the team will "keep the door open for sure" regarding re-signing Ertz, but noted that "you can't count on anything," per John Keim of ESPN.com.
