Charles Leno: Announces retirement
Leno (hip) announced his retirement from the NFL via his personal Instagram account Tuesday.
Leno turned 34 years old last week and hasn't appeared in a regular-season game since the 2023 season with the Commanders. He underwent hip surgery during the 2024 offseason and has been out of the league since. Over the course of his 10-year playing career, Leno appeared in 149 regular-season contests, making 141 starts. He spent his first seven seasons with the Bears before a three-year stint with Washington.

Charles Leno: Undergoing hip surgery
Leno, who was released by the Commanders on Friday, is scheduled to undergo hip surgery this week, John Keim of ESPN.com reports.
Leno, whose release saved Washington roughly $7.3 million in cap space, has been a solid starter at left tackle since being drafted by the Bears in the seventh round of the 2014 NFL Draft. Three of Leno's four missed games last season were due to a hip injury, which it looks like his upcoming surgery should address. Barring any setbacks in his recovery, the 32-year-old should garner interest as a short-term starter on the open market.

Charles Leno: Let go by Washington
Leno (calf) was released by the Commanders on Friday, Zach Selby of the Commanders' official site reports.
Leno ended the season on injured reserve and missed the team's final two games. He's set to undergo surgery to repair the calf issue in the coming days, leaving his availability for offseason programs murky. Leno's release will save the Commanders $7.3 million of cap space.
