  • Jets' Justin Fields: Will remain starting quarterback

Fields will remain the Jets' starting quarterback for Sunday's Week 7 game against the Panthers, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports. Coach Aaron Glenn admitted Monday that Fields, who completed just nine of 17 pass attempts for 45 yards while absorbing nine sacks, "took a step back" in Sunday's 13-11 loss to the Broncos in London, but the current plan is to stick with the 26-year-old under center. Behind Fields on the depth chart are 36-year-old Tyrod Taylor, who is a known commodity as a reliable veteran backup at this stage of his career, and undrafted rookie Brady Cook on the practice squad. Taylor isn't a long-term answer, and Cook likely isn't ready for regular-season NFL action. Things could change if Fields doesn't rebound and show signs of improvement.

  • Jets' Justin Fields: Completely neutralized in loss

Fields completed nine of 17 passes for 45 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions and rushed seven times for 31 yards in the Jets' 13-11 loss to the Broncos in London on Sunday. He also committed a fumble recovered by New York. Fields' final line tells the tale of how overwhelmed he repeatedly was by a ferocious Broncos defense that put together a signature performance overseas. The veteran signal-caller averaged a minuscule 2.6 yards per attempt while taking a whopping nine sacks, the final one coming on fourth down with under two minutes remaining to seal the loss. Despite Fields falling short of 100 passing yards for the second time already this season -- the first transpired in an injury-shortened Week 2 contest -- Connor Hughes of SNY.tv reports head coach Aaron Glenn said following the game he wasn't considering a quarterback change for a Week 7 home matchup against the Panthers next Sunday, although he likely won't hesitate to insert veteran Tyrod Taylor into that contest if the offense continues to struggle.

  • Jets' Justin Fields: Bust Alert (Start/Sit)

Fields struggled through most of Week 5 against Dallas before two fourth-quarter touchdowns allowed him to finish with 29.9 Fantasy points as the Start of the Week. He's now scored at least 29.1 Fantasy points in three of four starts, but I'm concerned about his production in Week 6 against Denver in London. The Broncos are No. 2 in fewest Fantasy points allowed to opposing quarterbacks, and Denver does not allow rushing yards to the position. Including matchups with Daniel Jones, Justin Herbert and Jalen Hurts, the Broncos have allowed a combined 15 rushing yards and a touchdown on 13 carries, and no quarterback has run for more than 6 yards. Garrett Wilson should struggle in this game against Patrick Surtain II, so Fields could be limited in his running and without the help of his best receiver. He's a borderline starter at best in one-quarterback leagues in Week 6.

  • Jets' Justin Fields: Salvages day with late TDs

Fields completed 32 of 46 passes for 283 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 37-22 loss to the Cowboys. he added 26 rushing yards on seven carries. His final numbers look good, but both TDs came in the fourth quarter after the game was well out of reach, and the Dallas pass rush gave Fields fits all afternoon as he got sacked five times and took another nine QB hits. Fields has produced multiple scores in back-to-back games since returning from a concussion, but he'll remain a volatile fantasy option in Week 6 against a tough Broncos defense.

  • Jets' Justin Fields: Top DFS Play

I have talked a lot about the Dolphins defense, but the Cowboys have given up even more Fantasy points to QBs, and that is who Fields faces in Week 5. For the season, Fields is now averaging 7.9 yards per pass attempt and hasn't thrown an interception in his first 60 attempts. He's also run for at least 48 yards in all three games. He could be the number one overall QB this week.

  • Jets' Justin Fields: Strong numbers in losing effort

Fields (concussion) completed 20 of 27 pass attempts for 226 yards and a touchdown while taking seven carries for 81 yards and another score in Monday's 27-21 loss to the Dolphins. Fields made a successful return from a one-game absence after suffering a concussion in a Week 2 loss to the Bills. The dual-threat quarterback was decisive in the pocket, getting the ball to his top play makers and taking off for big gains against good coverage. Fields' highlight-reel play came on a broken fourth-and-1 attempt that he was forced to reverse field on and outrun the entire defense for a 43-yard touchdown. While the Jets still can't buy a win, the team's signal-caller has looked like an elite fantasy asset in the two starts he has completed this season. Fields has a great opportunity to keep this momentum rolling in a plus matchup against Dallas in Week 5.

  • Jets' Justin Fields: Another full practice

Fields (concussion) practiced fully Friday, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports. Back-to-back full sessions have Fields trending toward a return to the lineup Monday night against the Dolphins, following a one-game absence. Saturday's final injury report will reveal whether the QB carries a Week 4 injury designation, but coach Aaron Glenn has already confirmed that if Fields is medically cleared (by progressing entirely through the NFL's concussion protocol), he will draw the start versus Miami.

  • Jets' Justin Fields: Slated to practice Thursday

Coach Aaron Glenn noted that Fields will practice Thursday, but he added that the QB is still in the NFL's concussion protocol, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports. With the Jets playing Monday night against the Dolphins, Fields has an extra day to progress through the protocol ahead of Week 4 action, but his ability to practice Thursday is a good sign on that front. Meanwhile, Glenn confirmed Thursday that Fields will draw the start versus Miami (backed up by Tyrod Taylor) if he gains clearance to play.

  • Jets' Justin Fields: Ruled out this week

Coach Aaron Glenn noted Wednesday that Fields (concussion) won't play Sunday against the Buccaneers. As a result, Tyrod Taylor is slated to draw the start at QB for the Jets this weekend. Fields will thus look to progress through the NFL's concussion protocol ahead of the team's Sept. 29 contest against the Dolphins. Per Rich Cimini of ESPN, Fields was injured early in the fourth quarter of this past Sunday's loss Bills, marking the signal-caller's first documented concussion in the NFL, though the 2021 first-rounder did sustain one during his time at Ohio State.

  • Jets' Justin Fields: Exits Sunday's game

Fields was forced out of Sunday's game against the Bills to be evaluated for a possible concussion. Prior to heading to the locker room to get checked out, Fields completed three of his 11 pass attempts for 27 yards and carried five times for 49 yards. In Fields' absence, Tyrod Taylor has taken over at quarterback for the Jets.

  • Jets' Justin Fields: Leads one scoring drive Saturday

Fields completed one of five passes for four yards and had a five-yard carry during Saturday's 31-12 preseason loss to the Giants. Fields was afforded two possessions in the Jets' second exhibition, which resulted in a punt and a successful Nick Folk field-goal attempt. Through two exhibitions, Fields has targeted top WR Garrett Wilson four times, but all four have gone down as incompletions. It's unclear of coach Aaron Glenn will trot out the starters in Friday's preseason finale against the Eagles, but if he doesn't, Fields will be under center for New York's Week 1 matchup with the Steelers on Sunday, Sept. 7.

  • Jets' Justin Fields: Starters suiting up Saturday

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn said Thursday that Fields (toe) will suit up for Saturday's preseason opener against the Packers, Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic reports. Glenn didn't say how much run New York's starting units will get Saturday, so it remains to be seen whether Fields and company will suit up for more than a few drives, but at this stage in the preseason it's uncommon for starters to handle more than a quarter. Fields has been a full participant in 11-on-11 drills since suffering a dislocated toe in practice late July, albeit while wearing a plastic shield on his cleat, but there now appear to be no tangible limitations regarding his activity level. Rich Cimini of ESPN reports that the Jets' passing game has struggled to find its groove throughout the early stages of training camp, so Saturday's preseason opener will represent a chance for Fields to alleviate those concerns.

  • Jets' Justin Fields: Eased back into team drills

Though Fields (toe) participated in team drills Monday, coach Aaron Glenn noted that the QB was still limited to a degree, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports. With regard to Fields, who dislocated a toe on his right foot last Thursday, Glenn noted Monday, "He was limited, but he was limited the way we wanted him to be limited." With that in mind, Cimini suggested that the limitations Glenn may be referring to pertain to play selection, with the QB mostly working from the pocket (with no scripted dynamic scrambles) during Monday's session.

  • Jets' Justin Fields: Dressed for practice

Fields (toe) is present for practice Friday, but Tyrod Taylor took the first QB rep of team drills, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports. Fields was diagnosed with a dislocated toe after an early exit from practice Thursday. His participation seems to be limited Friday, but it's still a good sign that he's out on the field in uniform just one day after suffering the injury. New York's offense otherwise looks healthy early in training camp, with RT Armand Membou (seventh overall pick) and TE Mason Taylor (42nd pick) being the big offseason additions after a quiet free-agency period.

  • Jets' Justin Fields: Work ethic standing out

Jets offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand said during mandatory minicamp in mid-June that his "biggest takeaway" regarding Fields this offseason is that "the guy is just a workaholic," and that "he comes in early, he's here late, and he's trying to digest everything and download all the information and do things the right way," Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic reports. Fields has made a positive early impression on Engstrand and new head coach Aaron Glenn, with new top wideout Garrett Wilson also saying at minicamp that "[Fields] trusts me, I trust him, we've got a good communication, we speak to each other well, we know what the other is thinking and that's key." The Jets are hoping the reunion of Fields and Wilson will pay huge dividends, with the two having connected on 66 catches for 1,031 yards and nine touchdowns over 22 games while teammates at Ohio State from 2019 to 2020. Rather than splash plays, though, Fields' focus this offseason has been to improve his pre-snap processing and ability to make quick decisions, and Glenn praised the 26-year-old signal-caller's progress in cleaning up mistakes during minicamp, saying the goal is "no negative plays." Rosenblatt also reports that Fields' early leadership has helped him earn the trust of the locker room. Fields is positioned to enter the first season of his two-year, $40 million deal with the Jets as the team's clear starter, and if he can indeed grow as a passer, he'll have a chance to prove himself as a long-term option for Gang Green. Even if Fields' development in the pocket falls flat, he possesses the rushing ability to provide solid QB2 fantasy value with upside as long as he remains the starter.

  • Steelers' Justin Fields: Draws interest from Jets, Steelers

The Steelers and Jets have shown interest in signing Fields, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. The Steelers reportedly also have interest in re-signing Russell Wilson or signing Aaron Rodgers, so it may come down to contract numbers rather than being a straightforward matter of the team's on-field preference. While the Steelers and Giants are shaping up as favorites to sign Rodgers, it sounds like Fields could land with the Jets as the 41-year-old's replacement. The Pittsburgh job became more attractive this weekend when the team sent a second-round pick to Seattle for WR DK Metcalf.
... See More ... See Less
  • Steelers' Justin Fields: Pittsburgh to bring back one QB?

Steelers owner and president Art Rooney II said Monday that it's his "preference" and will be "a priority" to re-sign one of Fields or Russell Wilson this offseason, Mike DeFabo of The Athletic reports. Rooney II said it's "probably unlikely" that both Wilson and Fields will return to Pittsburgh for the 2025 campaign, per Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com, but it sounds like a strong possibility that one of the two signal-callers will get another opportunity to prove themselves as the team's long-term starter during the 2025 campaign. Fields led the Steelers to a 4-2 record to kick off the regular season, though upon being replaced by Wilson under center Week 7 he never got another chance to compete for the starting gig, even though the veteran closed out the year with five straight losses. Pittsburgh's choice between re-signing Fields or Wilson figures to be heavily influenced by the relative interest both receive from other teams on the free-agent market.

  • Steelers' Justin Fields: Minimal work to close out 2024

Fields failed to complete his lone pass attempt and played two snaps in the Steelers' 28-14 loss to the Ravens this past Saturday in the wild-card round. During the regular season, Fields completed 106 of 161 pass attempts for 1,106 yards, five touchdowns and an interception while rushing 62 times for 289 yards and five touchdowns over 10 appearances. He began the season as the team's starter while Russell Wilson recovered from a preseason injury and led the Steelers to a 4-2 start, but Fields topped 200 passing yards in just two of those appearances. The Steelers turned to Wilson as their starter afterward, and Fields played just 12 offensive snaps over the remainder of the regular season. While Pittsburgh's record with Fields as the starting quarterback was encouraging, the 2021 first-round pick enters the offseason as an unrestricted free agent and could have some trouble finding a guaranteed starting job.

  • Steelers' Justin Fields: LIkely to be active for Week 18

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said Monday that Fields (abdomen) is expected to be active for Saturday's contest against Cincinnati, Alan Saunders of SteelersNow.com reports. Fields was inactive for each of Pittsburgh's previous two games, though he was deemed the team's emergency third quarterback Christmas Day versus the Chiefs. It appears the fourth-year QB will be able to suit up Saturday, and he'd presumably work as the team's backup to Russell Wilson. However, there's a possibility Fields could log more than his usual amount of work if Pittsburgh decides to sit or limit its starters. The Steelers play the late game Saturday, and they'll know whether they have a chance to win the AFC North and move up to the No. 3 seed depending on the outcome of the early Saturday contest between Baltimore and Cleveland.

  • Steelers' Justin Fields: Not expected to suit up Wednesday

Fields (abdomen) remains listed as questionable but is unlikely to play in Wednesday's game against the Chiefs, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Fields logged a limited practice session Tuesday, but it doesn't look as though it will be enough for the backup quarterback to avoid missing a second straight game. If Fields ends up inactive ahead of Wednesday's 1 p.m. ET kickoff, Kyle Allen would be in line to serve as the Steelers' No. 2 signal-caller behind Russell Wilson.
