Raiders' Kirk Cousins: Kubiak say it's Cousins' 'job to lose'
Coach Klint Kubiak said after Thursday's 27-14 preseason loss to the Cardinals that the Raiders' starting quarterback gig is Cousins' "job to lose," Greg Auman of Fox Sports reports.
Kubiak announced at the outset of training camp that Cousins was the team's No. 1 QB, and nothing between then and Thursday's contest seemingly has changed his mind. Cousins led a touchdown drive on his only possession, which culminated in a 13-yard connection between him and TE Michael Mayer. Meanwhile, 2026 first overall pick Fernando Mendoza fared well himself, completing 10 of 16 passes for 97 yards, one TD and one interception. Considering Kubiak's comments, Cousins appears destined to be under center for Las Vegas to begin Week 1 against the Dolphins on Sunday, Sept. 13.

Raiders' Kirk Cousins: Back with starters Monday
The Raiders returned to their usual QB rotation during Monday's practice, with Cousins working with the first-team offense and Fernando Mendoza with the second unit, Ryan McFadden of ESPN.com reports.
Per McFadden, Cousins didn't participate in the team period of Saturday's session due to his scuffle with teammate Maxx Crosby during Friday's practice, according to McFadden. Following an off day Sunday, things appear back to normal at practice for the team's top signal-callers, and as the regular season approaches Cousins continues to trend toward drawing the start over Mendoza in Week 1.

Raiders' Kirk Cousins: Opening camp as starting QB
Coach Klint Kubiak confirmed Tuesday that Cousins will open training camp as the Raiders' starting quarterback, Ryan McFadden of ESPN.com reports.
"When we go out to practice tomorrow, Kirk is the starting quarterback," Kubiak said. "He's the guy, and he deserves it because he's played really good football. But I want Fernando Mendoza and Aidan O'Connell to push him." This has been the Raiders' plan all along after Cousins opened spring practices as the QB1. While Cousins may get the Week 1 nod against the Dolphins on Sept. 13, Mendoza is fully expected to make rookie-year starts. Cousins made eight starts for the Falcons last season and completed 61.7 percent of his passes for 1,721 yards, 10 touchdowns and five interceptions across 10 total regular-season appearances.
