Dolphins' Koa Misi: Placed on IR
Misi (neck) was placed on the Dolphins' injured reserve list Tuesday, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports.
Misi, who underwent season-ending neck surgery in 2016, recently failed a test that would've declared him healthy enough to play in 2017 if passed. The Dolphins selected Raekwon McMillan in the second round of this year's draft, so he'll now have a more direct route to playing time as a rookie with Misi likely sidelined for the year. It's an unfortunate series of events for the 30-year-old veteran, while it remains to be seen if Misi will ever be able to return to his original level of play.

Dolphins' Koa Misi: Expected to hit PUP
Misi (neck) is expected to open training camp on the Dolphins' physically unable to perform list, Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald reports.
Doctors have yet to clear Misi to begin football activities after he underwent surgery last season to address a neck injury, which ended up limiting him to three games. Misi is said to be progressing through the rehab process and the team remains optimistic that he'll back on the field before the start of the regular season, but as of now, he's without a timetable for his return. Misi's indefinite absence will allow rookie second-round pick Raekwon McMillan to pick up more reps early on in training camp as he attempts to claim a starting role.

Dolphins' Koa Misi: Awaiting clearance to return to field
Misi (neck) is still awaiting clearance to return to the field, Barry Jackson of The Miami Herald reports.
Misi underwent spinal fusion surgery after suffering a neck injury early in 2016 and was anticipating being cleared by May. However, that time came and went without Misi getting the thumbs up from a team doctor. The Dolphins likely would have cut him instead of restructuring his contract this offseason if they weren't optimistic he'll be able to play in 2017, but his eventual availability is nonetheless far from guaranteed.

Dolphins' Koa Misi: Not participating in OTAs
Misi (neck) has not practiced during the Dolphins' OTAs thus far, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports.
Misi, whose 2016 campaign was shortened to just three games due to a severe neck injury, still has some time before he can practice again, according to Dolphins coach Adam Gase. Upon his eventual return to full health, he'll be able to provide strength at outside linebacker as he heads into his eighth year with Miami.
