Matthew Mayer: Let go by Houston
The Rockets waived Mayer on Tuesday, Ben DuBose of USA Today reports.
Mayer was let go after Houston traded for Victor Oladipo (knee) and Jeremiah Robinson-Earl. Mayer will likely spend the 2023-24 season with the Rockets' G League affiliate, the Rio Grande Valley Vipers.

Rockets' Matthew Mayer: Inks deal with Houston
The Rockets signed Mayer to a contract Wednesday, Alykhan Bijani of The Athletic reports.
Mayer spent the Summer League with the Rockets, averaging 12.5 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.0 assists in 25.2 minutes across four appearances. The rookie forward was an NCAA Champion with Baylor in 2020-21, transferred to Illinois in 2022-23 and went undrafted in the 2023 NBA Draft.

Rockets' Matthew Mayer: Impresses off bench
Mayer logged 19 points (6-11 FG, 3-8 3PT, 4-5 FT), 10 rebounds, one assist and two blocks in 29 minutes of Tuesday's 105-92 Summer League win over the Thunder.
This was Mayer's first showing in the Summer League, and he made the most of it. Mayer started 33 games for Illinois last season and averaged 12.5 points and 5.3 rebounds. After going undrafted in 2023, Mayer will be looking to secure a training camp invite.
