Royals' Stephen Woods: Outrighted, remains with Royals
Woods was outrighted off the 40-man roster by the Royals on Tuesday but will remain with the organization after the team sent a player to be named later or cash considerations to the Rays in exchange for his rights.
Woods was selected in the Rule 5 draft back in December. Ordinarily, Rule 5 picks must be offered back to their original team if they're removed from the active roster, but the drafting team can also make a trade to retain their rights, as the Royals did here. Woods recorded an excellent 1.88 ERA last season, but that came all the way down at the High-A level, the highest level he's reached thus far.

Royals' Stephen Woods: Should be ready for restart
Woods is fully recovered from the left lateral and high ankle sprains he suffered in late February, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports.
The 25-year-old sustained the sprains in a spring training game and was limited to light throwing when operations were suspended in March. Woods was selected by the Royals during the Rule 5 draft in the offseason, so while healthy he'll need to be on the active roster or he'll be returned to the Rays.

Royals' Stephen Woods: Resumes mound work
Woods (ankle) posted a video on his Instagram account Wednesday featuring him throwing off a mound, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports.
Woods' ability to get back on the bump indicates he's progressing well from the left high-ankle sprain that he suffered in late February. The right-hander is expected to fill a low-leverage role in the bullpen this season for Kansas City, which selected him in the Rule 5 draft in December.

Royals' Stephen Woods: Limited to light throwing
Woods is recovering from left lateral and high ankle sprains and is limited to light throwing, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports.
The 24-year-old sustained the injuries during a spring game at the end of February, putting his availability for the start of the regular season in doubt. Woods was selected during the Rule 5 draft by the Royals in December, so he'll need to be on the major-league roster once healthy to remain in the organization.

Woods left in the middle of an at-bat Saturday after spraining his ankle, though the exact severity of the injury is still unknown. The 24-year-old was selected in the Rule 5 draft from the Rays' organization and is competing for a major-league roster spot this spring after recording a 1.88 ERA and a 79:33 K:BB over 86.1 innings with High-A Charlotte in 2019.
