Red Sox's Jedixson Paez: Sent down after ugly start
Rotowire
The Red Sox optioned Paez to Triple-A Worcester on Wednesday, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
Paez really struggled Tuesday versus the Mariners in his first major-league start, getting torched for eight runs on 10 hits and two walks across 3.2 innings. The 22-year-old will yield his roster spot to Raymond Burgos, who will be available as a long-relief option.

Red Sox's Jedixson Paez: Rocked for eight runs in major-league debut
Rotowire
Paez (0-1) took the loss against the Mariners on Tuesday, allowing eight runs on 10 hits and two walks while striking out three across 3.2 innings.
The 22-year-old right-hander was called up from Triple-A Worcester to make his major-league debut Tuesday. He got off to a rough start by allowing a solo homer to Dominic Canzone in the first inning before allowing five runs in the second frame, three of which came on a Randy Arozarena home run. Paez went on to allow a run in each of the next two frames before being pulled in the fourth after tossing 87 pitches (55 strikes) and generating eight whiffs. It's not the way the right-hander was hoping his major-league debut would go, and he'll likely head back to the minors if the Red Sox revert to a five-man rotation.

Red Sox's Jedixson Paez: Promoted for Red Sox debut
Rotowire
The Red Sox selected Paez's contract from Triple-A Worcester, and he'll start Tuesday's game against the Mariners.
A Rule 5 Draft pick by the White Sox over the winter, Paez was returned to the Red Sox in early April after making three appearances for Chicago. The right-hander spent most of the campaign at Double-A Portland, where he posted a 4.41 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 56:5 K:BB across 49 innings. He made his last three appearances for Worcester and was dominant while scattering seven hits and posting an 18:2 K:BB across 12.1 frames. Paez will likely be in store for just one start while the Red Sox build in extra rest for Sonny Gray ahead of his next turn through the rotation.

Red Sox's Jedixson Paez: Dealing with hip soreness
Rotowire
Paez will not pitch for Double-A Portland on Saturday due to right hip soreness, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
It's unclear when Paez sustained the injury, but the Red Sox should have an update on a recovery timeline for the 22-year-old pitching prospect once he undergoes more tests on his right hip. He was roughed up in his last outing in Double-A this past Sunday, when he allowed three runs on four hits while striking out two across three innings.
