Orioles' Brandon Young: Diagnosed with hamstring issue
Young exited Thursday's start against Houston with hamstring discomfort, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.
Young exited in the sixth inning after suffering the injury while covering first base. He was hit hard prior to his exit, allowing seven earned runs on nine hits across 5.1 innings. It is not immediately clear if Young will miss a start or require a stint on the injured list.

Orioles' Brandon Young: Sent to IL with strained hamstring
The Orioles placed Young on the 15-day injured list Friday with a left hamstring strain.
Young suffered the injury in the sixth inning of Thursday's start versus the Astros while covering first base. The rookie right-hander will be eligible to return Sept. 6, but with Kyle Bradish (elbow) set to join the Orioles' rotation next week, it's uncertain what role Young will be in line for if he does make it back this season.

Young exited Thursday's start against the Astros after suffering an apparent leg injury, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports.
Young allowed seven earned runs on nine hits and two walks across 5.1 innings prior to his departure and is on the hook for the loss. The exact nature of the injury is unclear, though Young hurt himself while running to cover first base. He was able to walk off the field with trainers.

Orioles' Brandon Young: Earns first MLB win
Young (1-6) picked up the win Friday against the Astros, allowing one hit while striking out six over eight scoreless innings.
The rookie right-hander was tossing a perfect game through 7.2 innings before Ramon Urias broke it up with an infield single in the eighth that could easily have been ruled an error by the official scorer, but Young quickly regrouped to finish the inning and secure his first career MLB win. The outing was especially encouraging coming on the heels of one of his worst performances of the year, when he lasted only three innings and surrendered six runs. Friday's gem not only marked a personal milestone but also lowered Young's ERA by more than a full point, as he now owns a 5.68 ERA, 1.49 WHIP and 40:26 K:BB across 52.1 innings this season.

Orioles' Brandon Young: Jumped early in loss
Young (0-6) took the loss against the Athletics on Saturday, allowing six runs on six hits and two walks with two strikeouts over three innings.
Five of the six runs Young surrendered came via the long ball, and he was pulled after just 74 pitches in his shortest outing of the season. Coming off back-to-back starts in which he allowed only two earned runs combined, the 26-year-old has still failed to complete five innings in eight of 10 outings this year. He'll take a 6.70 ERA, 1.74 WHIP and 40:20 K:BB across 44.1 innings into a road matchup with Houston next week.

Orioles' Brandon Young: Sticking around in rotation
Young is slated to start Saturday's game against the Athletics at Camden Yards, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.
With Zach Eflin (back) recently landing on the injured list and Kyle Bradish (elbow) and Tyler Wells (elbow) in the midst of rehab assignments, Young will get at least one more turn through the Baltimore rotation. For the season, the right-hander owns a 5.88 ERA and 1.67 WHIP in 41.1 innings at the big-league level, but he's fared better over his last three starts, yielding a 3.00 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 13:7 K:BB in 15 frames.

Orioles' Brandon Young: Lasts 4.2 frames in no-decision
Young conceded two unearned runs on five hits and two walks over 4.2 innings while not factoring into the decision in Sunday's 5-3 loss to the Cubs. He struck out four.
The Baltimore rookie right-hander fared well in this short, 80-pitch outing. Young allowed two unearned runs to score in the first but then settled in to tame the Chicago lineup, as he allowed just one extra-base hit -- an Ian Happ double that drove home one of those unearned runs. After pitching to a 7.52 ERA in 26.1 innings over his first six starts, the 26-year-old has performed better over his latest three outings, producing a 3.00 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 13:7 K:BB across 15 frames. Even with Cade Povich (hip) being slated to rejoin the Orioles rotation Monday, Young should continue to make starts while Zach Eflin (back) is sidelined. Young currently lines up to make his next appearance against the Athletics at home next weekend.

Young is slated to start Sunday's game against the Cubs at Wrigley Field.
As expected, Young will be called upon to fill one of the openings in the rotation that was created Thursday after Zach Eflin (back) was placed on the injured list and Charlie Morton was traded to the Tigers. Young has made eight starts this season for Baltimore, going 0-5 with a 6.63 ERA, 1.69 WHIP and 34:16 K:BB in 36.2 innings. The rookie right-hander came through with his first career quality start his last time out however, striking out six over six frames Tuesday while allowing two earned runs on six hits and two walks.

The Orioles recalled Young from Double-A Chesapeake on Thursday.
Baltimore returned Young to the minors Wednesday, one day after he made a six-inning spot start as the 27th man for Tuesday's doubleheader with the Blue Jays. Despite turning in a quality start, Young still holds a 6.63 ERA and 1.69 WHIP in 36.2 innings in the majors this season, but he could nonetheless be in line for additional turns through the Baltimore rotation after he was recalled from Double-A to replace Zach Eflin (back), who was placed on the 15-day injured list in a corresponding move. Eflin's next start was scheduled to come up either Sunday versus the Cubs or Monday versus the Phillies, and the Orioles could look to either Young or rehabbing left-hander Cade Povich (hip) to fill in for the righty.

Young was called up Tuesday to serve as the 27th man for the Orioles' doubleheader versus the Blue Jays. He drew the start in the second game of the twin bill, taking a no-decision despite limiting the Blue Jays to two earned runs on six hits and two walks while striking out six over six innings. The right-hander got tagged for runs in the first, third and fifth innings, with an Angel Martinez double chasing him from the game after 73 pitches (45 strikes). The three free passes were the most Young had issued since rejoining the big-league rotation in late June, and over five starts he's been pummeled for a 7.77 ERA, 1.59 WHIP and 19:6 K:BB over 22 innings, serving up seven homers along the way. Zach Eflin (back) is expected to come off the IL on Wednesday, with Cade Povich (hip) and Kyle Bradish (elbow) not far behind him, so Young is likely headed back to Triple-A Norfolk.

Young (0-4) conceded seven runs on nine hits and no walks over 4.1 innings to take the loss Sunday against Miami. He struck out four.
The Baltimore rookie took a pounding from the Marlins lineup, as he yielded four long balls -- three of them to Kyle Stowers -- in this 76-pitch outing. Young now sports an ugly 7.52 ERA to go with a 1.25 WHIP and 25:11 K:BB across 26.1 total frames while coughing up seven homers. The 26-year-old has been solid at Triple-A Norfolk this season, pitching to a 2.63 ERA, 0.84 WHIP and 27:4 K:BB in 27.1 innings. It remains to be seen whether Young will stick in the Orioles' rotation post-All-Star break, but given the team has fallen out of playoff contention, Young could remain in the majors to audition for a starting role in 2026.

Orioles' Brandon Young: Stingy in no-decision
Young didn't factor into the decision in Tuesday's 7-6 extra-inning loss to the Mets, allowing two runs on five hits over 5.1 innings. He struck out six without walking a batter.
The 26-year-old right-hander blanked New York through five innings, but O's interim manager Tony Mansolino went to his bullpen quickly after Young served up three straight extra-base hits to lead off the sixth, including a Ronny Mauricio solo shot. It was Young's best performance in the majors this season, and his first time lasting at least five innings for Baltimore in five trips to the mound. He'll try to build off this outing Sunday as he makes his team's final start before the All-Star break, at home against the Marlins.
