Further tests revealed a lat strain, and the Marlins made the quick decision to place the 25-year-old southpaw on the 60-day IL rather than the 15-day IL. As a result of the transaction, Weathers won't be eligible to resume pitching for the Marlins until at least mid-August. Weathers is now on the IL for the second time this season, after he missed the first six weeks of the campaign while recovering from a left forearm injury. In a corresponding move, the Marlins activated Eury Perez (elbow) from the 60-day IL ahead of his 2025 MLB debut Monday against the Pirates.

The left-hander has made just five starts this season after missing the start of 2025 with a forearm issue. Weathers is 1-1 with a 3.28 ERA and 23:8 K:BB across 24.2 innings of work. A trip to the 15-day injured list could be in his near future.
