  • Marlins' Ryan Weathers: Facing hitters Wednesday

Weathers (lat) will throw a live batting practice session Wednesday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

The left-hander will face hitters for the first time since he was shelved in early June due to a lat strain. If Weathers gets through Wednesday's session without any hiccups, he could be cleared to begin a rehab assignment. Weathers is hoping to return from the 60-day injured list and rejoin the Miami rotation at some point in September.

  • Marlins' Ryan Weathers: Throws bullpen session

Weathers (lat) threw a bullpen session Wednesday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

The workout appeared to mark Weathers' first time throwing off a mound since he landed on the 60-day injured list in early June with a left lat strain. After being sidelined for a lengthy period of time, Weathers will need time to be built back up. A return before the end of August seems unlikely, but manager Clayton McCullough said Wednesday that he's "cautiously optimistic" that Weathers will pitch again for the big club this season, per Alex Krutchik of FishOnFirst.com.

  • Marlins' Ryan Weathers: Lands on 60-day IL with lat strain

The Marlins placed Weathers on the 60-day injured list Monday due to a left lat strain.

Weathers flew back to Miami on Monday to be evaluated after he experienced shoulder discomfort during his most recent start Saturday against the Rays. Further tests revealed a lat strain, and the Marlins made the quick decision to place the 25-year-old southpaw on the 60-day IL rather than the 15-day IL. As a result of the transaction, Weathers won't be eligible to resume pitching for the Marlins until at least mid-August. Weathers is now on the IL for the second time this season, after he missed the first six weeks of the campaign while recovering from a left forearm injury. In a corresponding move, the Marlins activated Eury Perez (elbow) from the 60-day IL ahead of his 2025 MLB debut Monday against the Pirates.

  • Marlins' Ryan Weathers: Experiencing shoulder discomfort

Weathers returned to Miami on Monday and will be evaluated due to shoulder discomfort, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Weathers was removed from Saturday's start against the Rays after being hit in the head by a throw from catcher Nick Fortes between innings. Prior to that, however, Weathers was seen flexing his arm and experienced diminished velocity, so the shoulder discomfort makes sense now. The left-hander has made just five starts this season after missing the start of 2025 with a forearm issue. Weathers is 1-1 with a 3.28 ERA and 23:8 K:BB across 24.2 innings of work. A trip to the 15-day injured list could be in his near future.

  • Marlins' Ryan Weathers: Evaluated for head injury

Weathers was evaluated for a head injury after exiting Saturday's start against the Rays in the third inning, Nate Karzmer of Fish on First reports.

Weathers was seen flexing his arm and experienced diminished velocity before being pulled, so it was assumed he was dealing with an arm injury. However, he was hit in the head on a practice throw by Nick Fortes after warmup pitches in the first inning, which is apparently the primary cause for concern. The Marlins announced Weathers didn't suffer a significant injury, but it will still be worth monitoring his status leading up to his next projected start.

  • Marlins' Ryan Weathers: Set for further evaluation

Weathers was removed from Saturday's start for precautionary reasons and will undergo further evaluation, Stephen Strom of Marlins Radio Network reports.

Weathers was removed from his start after three innings Saturday against the Rays after displaying diminished velocity while also flexing his left arm. The preliminary news is positive, with manager Clayton McCullough reporting that no major issues were uncovered during an initial evaluation, per Brian Murphy of MLB.com.

  • Marlins' Ryan Weathers: Exits after three innings

Weathers exited Saturday's start against the Rays after three innings and was seen flexing his left arm, Brian Murphy of MLB.com reports.

Murphy also reports that Weathers' velocity was down in his final inning of work. The report sounds ominous, but there has been no official word from the team.

  • Marlins' Ryan Weathers: Mixed results in loss

Weathers (1-1) took the loss against the Giants on Sunday, allowing four runs on five hits and three walks with seven strikeouts over six innings.

Weathers generated an impressive 17 whiffs on 99 pitches and was largely undone by a three-run homer in the fourth inning. It marked the first time the southpaw completed six innings since returning from the injured list May 14, though he had allowed just two earned runs over his previous three starts. He'll carry a 2.49 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 22:7 K:BB across 21.2 innings into a road matchup with the Rays next weekend.

  • Marlins' Ryan Weathers: No-decision against former team

Weathers allowed two unearned runs on three hits and three walks while striking out six over 5.2 innings in a no-decision versus the Padres on Monday.

Weathers continued his strong start to the campaign Monday, coming up one out short of a quality start against his former team. This was the first time he's been tagged for multiple runs across three starts, as a two-out error by Connor Norby allowed the Padres to extend a rally in the fourth inning. Weathers threw 94 pitches (53 strikes) in this outing, displaying a bit of shaky control, but he looks fully stretched out at this point after opening the year on the injured list due to a forearm strain. Weathers has a 1.15 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and 15:4 K:BB across 15.2 innings. He's projected to make his next start at home versus the Giants over the weekend.
