  • Red Sox's Ranger Suarez: Throws eight scoreless Friday

Suarez did not factor into the decision in Friday's 1-0 extra-inning win over the Tigers, allowing two hits and one walk while striking out four over eight scoreless innings.

Suarez worked eight strong innings but was locked in a pitchers' duel with Casey Mize for most of the contest. Despite throwing just 55 of 93 pitches for strikes and generating only four whiffs, the 30-year-old has now tossed 14 straight scoreless frames without allowing an extra-base hit after yielding eight combined runs over his first two starts with the Red Sox. He'll carry a 3.22 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 15:6 K:BB across 22.1 innings into a home matchup against the Yankees next week.

  • Tigers' Casey Mize: Strong again in no-decision

Mize did not factor into the decision in Friday's 1-0 extra-inning loss to the Red Sox, allowing three hits and one walk while striking out seven over 6.2 scoreless innings.

Mize went toe-to-toe with Ranger Suarez, generating 14 swinging strikes on 94 pitches to earn his second quality start of the season. The 28-year-old has now allowed one earned run or fewer in three of four starts, with the lone exception being a five-run clunker April 6. He'll carry a 2.78 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 25:7 K:BB across 22.2 innings into a home matchup against the Brewers next week.

  • Tigers' Casey Mize: Sharp in first win of 2026

Mize (1-1) recorded the win in Saturday's 6-1 victory over the Marlins, allowing one run on six hits and a walk over 5.2 innings. He struck out five.

The right-hander tossed 48 of 74 pitches for strikes before being lifted with two outs in the sixth inning and runners on second and third, leaving Mize just short of his second quality start of the season. He'll take a 3.94 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 18:6 K:BB through 16 innings into his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road next weekend in Boston.

  • Tigers' Casey Mize: Surrenders five runs in loss

Mize (0-1) took the loss Monday, allowing five runs on seven hits and three walks over 4.1 innings against Minnesota. He struck out four.

Mize didn't have his best stuff Monday, as a lengthy third inning and a two-run homer from Luke Keaschall in the fourth frame did damage. It marked a step back for the right-hander after a strong first start against Arizona, in which he fired six innings of one-run ball with nine punchouts. Looking ahead, Mize lines up to face Miami on Saturday in his next outing.

  • Tigers' Casey Mize: Punches out nine in quality start

Mize did not factor into the decision Tuesday, striking out nine and allowing one run on four hits and two walks over six innings during a 7-5 loss to the Diamondbacks.

Mize induced 15 swinging strikes on 93 pitches as he limited Arizona to a solo homer across six frames, but he lost out on the victory due to an eighth-inning collapse by the Detroit bullpen. The right-hander has never been a big punchout guy with a career 19.5 percent strikeout rate, but his splitter was in top form Tuesday, generating nine whiffs and six strikeouts. Mize lines up for a favorable road matchup against the Twins early next week.

  • Tigers' Casey Mize: Hit hard Friday

Mize allowed six runs on six hits and four walks across three innings in Friday's Grapefruit League contest against the Pirates. He struck out two.

This was easily Mize's worst start of the spring slate, as he came into the contest having allowed three total earned runs across 8.1 Grapefruit League innings. He said after the contest that his "mechanics are off," per Jason Beck of MLB.com, which is somewhat concerning at this point during spring training. The righty should still be locked into a regular-season rotation spot, though the Tigers did bolster their pitching staff in the offseason with the additions of Framber Valdez and Justin Verlander, so Mize may be knocked down the pecking order a bit. He stayed mostly healthy last year and posted a 3.87 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 139 strikeouts across 149 regular-season innings.

  • Tigers' Casey Mize: Avoids arbitration

Mize agreed to a one-year, $6.15 million contract with the Tigers on Thursday, avoiding arbitration, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.

The right-hander was a reliable rotation piece for Detroit in 2025, making 28 regular-season starts with a 3.87 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 139:36 K:BB across 149 innings. He doubled his previous career high with 14 wins and should be a key starter for the Tigers again in 2026.

  • Tigers' Casey Mize: Punches out six in Game 4

Mize didn't factor into the decision during Game 4 of the ALDS against Seattle on Wednesday. He gave up one earned run on two hits and two walks while striking out six batters across three innings.

Doubles from Josh Naylor and Dominic Canzone allowed the Mariners to jump out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning, but Seattle wasn't able to generate much offense outside of that during Mize's brief time on the mound. The 28-year-old threw just 54 pitches Wednesday, but he will likely need the Tigers to advance to the ALCS in order to retake the mound during the postseason.
