  • Athletics' Hogan Harris: Blows save, takes loss Tuesday

Harris (3-2) blew a save and took the loss against the Royals on Tuesday, allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits and one walk in two-thirds of an inning. He did not register a strikeout. Harris was summoned to protect a two-run lead in the eighth inning and secure a four-out save, but he departed after allowing a game-tying single in the ninth. Elvis Alvarado replaced him and surrendered a walk-off single, with the run and loss charged to the 29-year-old Harris. It's been a rocky August for the southpaw, who's blown two of five save chances and yielded five earned runs through seven games this month. On the year, he owns 12 saves and 10 holds to go along with a 3.79 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 72:35 K:BB across 54.2 innings.

  • Athletics' Hogan Harris: Locks down 12th save

Harris struck out two in a perfect inning to earn the save in Sunday's 5-2 win over the Rangers. Harris looks to be pulling away with the closer job for the Athletics -- he's earned six saves since the All-Star break alone, while no one else on the team has more than four all year. It hasn't all been smooth lately, though this was his third scoreless outing in a row following a stretch in which he gave up five runs over 4.1 frames. Overall, Harris is at a 3.50 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 72:34 K:BB through 54 innings, and he has 12 saves in 17 chances and 10 holds to his name.

  • Athletics' Hogan Harris: Secures 11th save

Harris earned the save in Sunday's 4-3 win over the Red Sox, allowing one hit and one walk with one strikeout in a scoreless ninth inning. Harris was summoned after the Athletics took a one-run lead in the top of the ninth inning and stranded two baserunners to close the door. It marked back-to-back successful save chances for the 29-year-old, though he's yielded runs in three of his past five appearances. On the year, he owns a 3.63 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and 70:34 K:BB across 52 innings to go along with 10 holds and 11 saves.

  • Athletics' Hogan Harris: Collects save No. 10

Harris gave up a run on three hits and a walk over 1.1 innings Saturday to record his 10th save of the season in a 7-3 win over the Red Sox. He struck out two. The southpaw got the final out of the eighth inning with the tying run on deck and the A's ahead 6-2 to qualify for a save chance, but Harris created his own jam in the ninth and escaped a bases-loaded, two-out situation by getting Eli White to line out to center field. Harris has been tagged for at least one run in three of his last four appearances, inflating his ERA from 3.09 to 3.71, but his hold on the closer job appears fairly secure -- no other A's reliever has picked up a save since Mason Barnett on June 25.

  • Athletics' Hogan Harris: Can't find plate in blown save

Harris (3-1) blew the save and took the loss Tuesday, giving up two runs on three walks in two-thirds of an inning as the A's fell 5-4 to the Reds. He struck out one. Taking the mound for the eighth inning and tasked with protecting a 4-3 lead, Harris instead walked the first two batters he faced, and then allowed both runners to come home with two outs on a pair of wild pitches. It's the second time in his last three appearances that Harris has been tagged for multiple runs, while the blown save was his first since June 21. The southpaw's nine saves lead the A's in 2026, but he's also got five blown saves on his ledger, and his job security as closer should be viewed as very low.

  • Athletics' Hogan Harris: Survives shaky save chance

Harris recorded his ninth save Tuesday against the Red Sox, allowing two runs on three hits while striking out three over 1.1 innings. Harris entered with a three-run lead in the eighth inning after Luis Medina left runners on the corners with two outs. He immediately allowed an RBI single to Wilyer Abreu before escaping the inning with a strikeout. The ninth proved even more eventful, as Harris gave up a single and a two-run homer to Connor Wong to trim the lead to one run before inducing a game-ending flyout. The two runs were his first allowed since the All-Star break. Harris has converted three saves over his last five appearances and owns a 3.38 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 65:38 K:BB with nine saves in 13 chances and 10 holds this season.

  • Athletics' Hogan Harris: Converts seventh save

Harris allowed a hit and a walk while striking out three in a scoreless inning to earn the save in Monday's 5-2 win over the Diamondbacks. Harris hadn't converted a save since June 12, and he had blown his two most recent chances. Over his last eight outings, he's gotten back on track, giving up one run on five hits and four walks while adding 17 strikeouts. He has seven saves in 11 chances as well as 10 holds as he continues to fill a high-leverage role in the Athletics' late-inning committee. Harris has added a 3.30 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 60:28 K:BB through 43.2 innings, adding some tantalizing strikeout upside despite the obvious risks involved with his 5.8 BB/9 and a hitter-friendly home park.

  • Athletics' Hogan Harris: Blows save Monday

Harris blew the save in Monday's extra-innings loss against the Brewers. He allowed two runs on two hits and a walk while striking out three over 1.2 innings. Harris entered for a five-out save and was able to escape trouble in the eighth inning but couldn't finish the job in the ninth frame, surrendering a game-tying, two-run double to Andrew Vaughn. The Athletics' closer situation remains fluid, with manager Mark Kotsay frequently mixing and matching in high-leverage spots, though Harris still leads the club with five saves to go along with two blown saves. After Monday's rough outing, the southpaw owns a 2.84 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 37:23 K:BB across 31.2 innings this season.

  • Athletics' Hogan Harris: Records one-out save Tuesday

Harris earned the save Tuesday against the Cubs, recording the final out of the game. After right-hander Scott Barlow allowed two baserunners in the ninth inning, the Athletics turned to Harris to face Ian Happ with two outs. The move was matchup-based, as Happ entered the game batting just .161 against left-handed pitching compared to .258 against righties. Harris executed perfectly, inducing a flyout from Happ to end the game and secure his fifth save of the season, most on the team. The left-hander now owns a 2.57 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 31:22 K:BB across 28 innings this season.

  • Athletics' Hogan Harris: Earns fourth save

Harris walked two and struck out one in a scoreless and hitless inning to earn the save in Wednesday's 6-5 extra-inning win over the Angels. One of the walks was intentional to avoid facing Mike Trout. The plan worked, with Harris collecting his fourth save of the season and his third in his last six outings. The southpaw has allowed three runs on 10 hits and four walks while striking out nine over seven innings this month, but he's done well enough to work his way up the leverage ladder. He's at a 3.00 ERA, 1.67 WHIP and 26:19 K:BB through 24 innings this season, which isn't the profile of a typical closer, though it may be good enough in a bullpen that's worked with a committee approach. In addition to his four saves, he's added seven holds across 26 appearances.

  • Athletics' Hogan Harris: Picks up first save Thursday

Harris earned his first save in Thursday's 1-0 win over the Yankees, striking out one in a hitless and scoreless ninth inning. With a trio of lefties in Cody Bellinger, Jazz Chisholm and Ben Rice due up in the ninth for New York, Athletics manager Mark Kotsay went to lefty Harris for the save chance. He got Bellinger to foul out, Chisholm to fly out and Rice to strike out in a perfect ninth inning, ending a string of three straight outings with multiple walks issued. Harris now owns a 3.00 ERA and 8:10 K:BB across eight innings and eight appearances this season.

  • Athletics' Hogan Harris: Logs third save

Harris logged a scoreless appearance while allowing one hit over 1.1 innings to pick up the save over the Red Sox on Tuesday. He did not strike out or walk a batter in the process. Harris entered with a man on first and two outs in the eighth to face lefty Jarren Duran and was able to get out of the inning by picking off Nick Sogard. Hogan would allow a base knock in the ninth but closed out the game by inducing a double play. Dating back to Aug. 9, Harris has allowed just one run over 16.2 innings and has picked up three saves and two holds. The Athletics' closer job still remains a committee, however, between Harris, Sean Newcomb and even Michael Kelly, who just picked up his first career save Sunday.

  • Athletics' Hogan Harris: Scoreless streak continues

Harris allowed a hit and no walks with no strikeouts over a scoreless inning in Saturday's 9-3 loss to the Rangers. While the Athletics' pitching staff struggled in Saturday's loss, Harris turned in a clean outing when called upon in the fifth inning. The left-hander has pieced together a scoreless August, tossing 10 innings across eight outings, a sharp improvement on the 4.35 ERA and 1.65 WHIP he carried over 41.1 innings in 30 big-league appearances through July.

  • Athletics' Hogan Harris: Picks up extra-inning save

Harris walked one but didn't allow a hit or a run over two-thirds of an inning to earn the save in Saturday's 2-1 extra-inning win over the Mariners. Harris' walk loaded the bases with two outs, but he got Randy Arozarena to ground out, ending the threat and preserving the Athletics' lead. This was Harris' second save of the week, and he's on an eight-inning scoreless streak since he was recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas on Aug. 9. On the year, he's had mixed results with a 3.65 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 52:27 K:BB over 49.1 innings across 36 relief appearances. He's added two saves and a hold, as he appears to be in the mix for saves following the deadline departure of Mason Miller.

  • Athletics' Hogan Harris: Earns first save

Harris earned a save with a perfect inning against Minnesota on Tuesday. Harris retired the Twins' 6-7-8 hitters in order to close out the 6-3 win after Justin Sterner threw two scoreless frames out of the bullpen. It was Harris' first save chance of the year, and he's now thrown 6.2 shutout innings since rejoining the MLB roster Aug. 9. He joined Sean Newcomb as the only Athletics to record saves since Mason Miller was dealt to San Diego. It seems most likely that the team will continue using a committee approach for late-inning opportunities.

  • Athletics' Hogan Harris: Sent back to minors

The Athletics optioned Harris to Triple-A Las Vegas on Wednesday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. Harris has coughed up 12 runs (10 earned) over his last 14 innings to earn a trip back to the minors. His spot on the 26-man active roster and in the bullpen will be absorbed by lefty Ben Bowden, who was recalled from Triple-A.

  • Athletics' Hogan Harris: Recalled from Triple-A

The Athletics recalled Harris from Triple-A Las Vegas on Wednesday. With Jacob Lopez heading down to the minors and Jose Leclerc (lat) landing on the injured list, the A's will promote Harris and Grant Holman to replenish their bullpen depth. Harris has made six appearances at Las Vegas this season, giving up five earned runs across 9.1 innings while striking out 12 batters and walking five. He'll presumably work in middle relief while with the big club.

  • Athletics' Hogan Harris: Sent to minors

The Athletics optioned Harris to Triple-A Las Vegas on Monday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. Harris was sent to the minors to clear a spot on the 26-man roster for reliever Angel Perdomo, whom the Athletics claimed off waivers from the Angels. After he was unable to win a spot in the Athletics' season-opening rotation during spring training, Harris headed to the bullpen and collected a hold in his lone relief appearance Saturday against the Mariners prior to being demoted. Harris could get stretched back out as a starter with Las Vegas.

  • Athletics' Hogan Harris: Takes fourth loss Saturday

Harris (4-4) took the loss against the White Sox on Saturday, allowing a game-winning solo home run to the only batter he faced. Closer Mason Miller had garnered a 21-pitch save Friday night, so Harris was called on to preserve a 6-6 tie in the ninth Saturday. There wasn't much suspense before he proved he wasn't up to the task, as Andrew Benintendi took Harris deep to right field on the fourth pitch he saw from the left-hander for the game-winning hit. Harris was fresh after last having pitched Tuesday, but the stumble resulted in the third run he'd allowed over his last four appearances (4.2 innings).

  • Athletics' Hogan Harris: Earns win in stellar relief outing

Harris (3-3) got the win against the Mariners on Tuesday, firing three scoreless innings during which he allowed two walks and recorded three strikeouts. Harris took over following a quality start from rookie J.T. Ginn and put together a highly efficient long-relief effort, requiring only 37 pitches to record nine outs. The left-hander helped keep the Mariners at bay and then reaped the rewards when Seth Brown hit a walk-off single, affording Harris the first victory of his current big-league stint. Harris is likely to continue being used in a relief role down the stretch, although multi-inning outings will likely be the norm given he's capable of tolerating the elevated workloads.
