Yankees' Carlos Lagrange: Loses steam in Monday's start
Lagrange tossed 2.2 innings in an exhibition start against the Cubs on Monday, allowing eight runs on nine hits and two walks while striking out four batters.
Lagrange has frequently turned heads this spring, and he won the 2026 James P. Dawson Award given to the most outstanding rookie in Yankees camp, per Bryan Hoch of MLB.com. However, Monday serves as a reminder that the flamethrowing hurler is still a 22-year-old who has yet to pitch above Double-A. The Cubs smoked four extra-base hits against Lagrange, including two home runs. Even with the ugly line, the right-hander will finish the spring slate with a 4.96 ERA and 1.29 WHIP while posting an impressive 17:6 K:BB over 16.1 innings. He'll open the season in the minors, but Lagrange certainly boosted his prospect status this spring.

Yankees' Carlos Lagrange: Dominant again Wednesday
Lagrange tossed four scoreless innings in a Grapefruit League game against the Red Sox on Wednesday, allowing two hits and issuing one walk while striking out four batters.
Lagrange entered in the third inning in a scoreless game and departed after the sixth with the score unchanged. The 22-year-old right-hander has wowed this spring, not only by regularly flashing a triple-digit fastball but also by putting together a sterling 0.66 ERA, 0.73 WHIP and 13:4 K:BB over 13.2 innings spanning four outings (including one start). He's still unlikely to make New York's Opening Day roster, but Lagrange has certainly bolstered his prospect status with his dominant spring, and he could reach the big leagues (perhaps in a relief role) at some point during the campaign if he continues to pitch well in the minors.

Yankees' Carlos Lagrange: Sent to minor-league camp
The Yankees reassigned Lagrange to minor-league camp Thursday, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.
"He made it a difficult decision, which coming into this, I wouldn't have even thought there was a decision," manager Aaron Boone said of the move Thursday. Lagrange lit up Grapefruit League play with an easy triple-digits fastball en route to a 0.66 ERA, 0.73 WHIP and 13:4 K:BB across 13.2 innings. Should he continue his dominance in the minors, Lagrange could make his MLB debut with the Yankees at some point during the 2026 campaign after splitting the 2025 season between Single-A and Double-A.

Yankees' Carlos Lagrange: Turning heads in exhibition play
Through two Grapefruit League appearances, Lagrange has given up one run on four hits and two walks while striking out six batters over 5.2 innings.
Lagrange is one of New York's top prospects after posting a 3.10 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 104:50 K:BB across 78.1 frames over 16 games (15 starts) with Double-A Somerset last season. The fireballing right-hander has been flashing eye-popping velocity this spring, hitting 102.4 mph -- tied for the fastest pitch thrown by any pitcher during preseason play -- and averaging over 100 mph on his fastball, per David Adler of MLB.com. Lagrange isn't on the 40-man roster and will almost certainly begin the regular season in the minors, but he could be a roster fixture (either as a starter or reliever) as soon as 2027.

Yankees' Carlos Lagrange: Racking up Ks at Double-A
Lagrange has a 2.61 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 34:15 K:BB in 20.2 innings over his last four starts for Double-A Somerset.
The 22-year-old righty was surprisingly assigned to High-A Hudson Valley to begin the year, even though he had an 18.8 percent walk rate at Single-A Tampa in 2024. Lagrange was up for the challenge, logging a 4.10 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 64:12 K:BB in 41.2 innings at High-A before getting promoted to Double-A on June 3. Even during his stretches of dominance, walks can be a problem for Lagrange, as he's given up more walks than hits in three straight starts.

Yankees' Carlos Lagrange: Makes 2024 debut
Lagrange (undisclosed) was reinstated from the 7-day injured list Saturday and made his season debut for the Yankees' rookie-level Florida Complex League affiliate, covering 1.2 innings and giving up one run on two hits and one walk. He struck out two.
The 21-year-old right-hander wasn't particularly sharp in his 2024 debut, but the Yankees are likely just happy to see him back on the mound again. Lagrange is expected to steadily ramp up his pitch count over his subsequent outings in the FCL before eventually advancing to Single-A Tampa later this season.

Yankees' Carlos Lagrange: On shelf with undisclosed injury
Lagrange is on the Florida Complex League Yankees' 7-day injured list with an undisclosed injury.
A 6-foot-7 righty with a monster fastball, Lagrange logged a 4.97 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 63 strikeouts in 41.2 innings in the Florida Complex League last season. Given that he turns 21 later this month, Lagrange would ideally make his full-season debut at some point later this season, health permitting.
