Athletics' Brady Basso: Takes loss as opener
Basso (1-1) took the loss Sunday, allowing a run on three hits and two walks over 1.1 innings against Kansas City. He recorded no strikeouts.
The 27-year-old opened the game Sunday but couldn't find a rhythm, loading the bases before exiting in the second inning with one out. Tyler Ferguson then allowed an inherited runner to score. Basso didn't make his first big-league appearance of the year until Aug. 27 after dealing with a left shoulder strain and beginning with Triple-A Las Vegas. He managed strong results with a 2.31 ERA across 11 outings and 11.2 innings, though a 1.80 WHIP, 4.07 FIP and 6.9 BB/9 suggest trouble beneath the surface.

Athletics' Brady Basso: Opening Sunday's contest
Basso will serve as the Athletics' opening pitcher in Sunday's game against the Royals, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
The Athletics won't have Jeffrey Springs make his normally scheduled start in the season finale, so Basso will take the mound first in what's expected to be a bullpen day. Basso made four starts for the Athletics in 2024 but has worked exclusively as a reliever in 2025. He's eclipsed two innings in just one of his 18 appearances between the majors and minors this season, so he's unlikely to work more than once through the batting order Sunday.

Athletics' Brady Basso: Scoreless streak continues
Basso threw a perfect inning with no strikeouts in Saturday's loss to the Pirates.
Basso worked a clean eighth inning Saturday in a game where the Athletics' offense couldn't get going. The left-hander was called up Aug. 27 and has been effective since, tossing nine straight scoreless appearances. It's a small sample, but the 27-year-old's early results are encouraging, especially considering he was primarily used as a starter before this year.

Athletics' Brady Basso: Scoreless frame in season debut
Basso allowed no hits and a walk with no strikeouts over a scoreless inning Wednesday against the Tigers.
Basso made his season debut for the Athletics, tossing a scoreless ninth inning to close out an impressive sweep of the Tigers. The southpaw has spent most of the year sidelined by a left shoulder strain suffered in March, then was optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas upon activation Aug. 11 before being recalled ahead of Wednesday's contest. Though a starter by trade, Basso has been working out of the bullpen since returning from injury.

Athletics' Brady Basso: Headed to majors
The Athletics recalled Basso from Triple-A Las Vegas on Wednesday.
With Joey Estes (back) headed to the injured list, Basso will come up from Triple-A to round out the Athletics' pitching staff. The 27-year-old has worked primarily as a starter throughout his career but has transitioned into a relief role since returning from a shoulder injury that kept him on the shelf until Aug. 11. Now back in the bigs, he'll presumably continue to work in middle relief.

Athletics' Brady Basso: Reinstated off IL and optioned
The Athletics reinstated Basso (shoulder) from the 60-day injured list and optioned him to Triple-A Las Vegas on Monday.
Basso began the season on the IL while recovering from a left shoulder strain, then experienced a setback in June during his rehab assignment that resulted in him being shut down from throwing for a spell. He was given the green light to restart his rehab assignment in Triple-A last week, and after making two appearances for Las Vegas, Basso will now remain with the affiliate since the Athletics didn't have an opening for him in the bullpen. The Athletics reopened a spot for Basso on the 40-man roster by transferring catcher Austin Wynns (abdomen) from the 10-day IL to the 60-day IL in a corresponding move.

Athletics' Brady Basso: Restarting rehab assignment
Basso (shoulder) will resume a rehab assignment with Triple-A Las Vegas on Wednesday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
Basso was pulled off his initial rehab assignment in mid-June following a setback, but he's now ready to be thrown back into game action. The southpaw has been out all season with a shoulder strain and is likely to require a fairly lengthy rehab assignment before being considered for a return from the injured list.

Athletics' Brady Basso: Rehab stint stalls
Basso (shoulder) was pulled off his rehab assignment at Triple-A Las Vegas on Wednesday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
A left shoulder strain has kept Basso on the injured list all season, though he seemed close to a return after making three rehab appearances in the minors. However, a setback in his recovery puts him at risk of spending even more time on the IL. He's set to be re-evaluated within the next several days, at which point a new timeline for his return may be established.

Athletics' Brady Basso: Could return as reliever
Basso (shoulder) struck out two in a scoreless inning Sunday at Single-A Fresno and could be deployed as a reliever going forward to get him back from the 60-day injured list faster, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
Basso has started four games so far this season for the A's, but after he looked strong in a single inning Sunday, the club is considering bringing him back as a reliever, per Gallegos. If Basso is able to get through a few more relief appearances, it wouldn't be a surprise to see him back from the 60-day IL within the next few weeks.

Athletics' Brady Basso: Set for rehab assignment
Basso (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment with Single-A Stockton on Sunday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
Basso has been sidelined all season with a left shoulder strain and made just two appearances during spring training before the injury, so it will take time for him to build back up. There are spots in the Athletics' rotation to be had, however, so Basso could grab one if he pitches well and gets sufficiently stretched out.

Athletics' Brady Basso: Ready for mound work
Basso (shoulder) is scheduled to throw a 15-pitch bullpen session this week, MLB.com reports.
Basso will be getting back on a mound for the first time since being shut down from throwing in early April after being diagnosed with a left shoulder strain. Since the Athletics are still presumably planning on having Basso build up as a starter during his rehab program, he likely won't be ready to come off the 60-day injured list in late May when first eligible, though a June return might be feasible.

Athletics' Brady Basso: Heads to 60-day IL
The Athletics transferred Basso (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Monday.
As a result of the transaction, Basso won't be eligible to make his 2025 debut with the Athletics until late May. According to MLB.com, Basso had been taking part in a throwing program by the end of spring training, but it's not yet clear if he's reached the point in his rehab where he's throwing bullpen sessions or facing hitters. Basso will eventually head out on a rehab assignment and could need most of the 30-day window to get stretched back out for a starting role. The 27-year-old lefty reached the majors for the first time last season, making seven appearances (four starts) for the Athletics while turning in a 4.03 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 19:5 K:BB in 22.1 innings.

Athletics' Brady Basso: Sent to IL
The Athletics placed Basso (shoulder) on the 15-day injured list Thursday.
Basso has been held out of action since early March due to a left shoulder strain. It's still unknown how far he is from a return to the mound, but he'll be out for at least the first couple weeks of the season. Whenever he is able to return, he'll likely be optioned out to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Athletics' Brady Basso: Shut down with shoulder strain
Basso has been shut down after being diagnosed with a left shoulder strain, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
There's no timetable for when Basso might be ready to return, but it is likely to be a lengthy absence for the left-hander. Basso -- who has thrown 4.1 scoreless and hitless innings this spring -- likely was going to start the season at Triple-A Las Vegas but will now be rehabbing the injury for the foreseeable future.

Athletics' Brady Basso: Optioned by Oakland
Oakland optioned Basso to the Arizona Complex League Athletics on Friday.
The move makes room on the A's 28-man roster for the reinstatement of right-hander Ross Stripling (back) from the 15-day injured list. Basso has made four starts for the Athletics in September, going 1-1 with a 3.79 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 16:5 K:BB over 19 innings.

Athletics' Brady Basso: Allows five runs in first loss
Basso (1-1) took the loss against Texas on Wednesday, allowing five runs on six hits and one walk over three innings while striking out three.
Basso ran into a buzz saw in the first inning, allowing five-consecutive batters to reach to open things up while seeing three early runs come home for Texas. The lefty then got tagged for a two-run homer in the third after giving up a leadoff single to begin the frame and he would not return for the fourth. Basso had gone at least into the fifth inning in three straight starts coming in, allowing three or fewer runs on each occasion. However, Wednesday's five runs allowed marked a season high for the 26-year-old, as did the two long balls he surrendered in the contest.

Athletics' Brady Basso: Fans five in no-decision
Basso came away with a no-decision in Wednesday's 5-3 win over the Cubs, giving up three runs on six hits and two walks over 4.2 innings. He struck out five.
The rookie southpaw blanked Chicago through four innings before faltering in the fifth, getting the hook after 93 pitches (60 strikes). It's the first time in three big-league starts that Basso has failed to complete five frames, and only the second time in six appearances he's been charged with any earned runs at all. He'll take a 2.33 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 16:4 K:BB through 19.1 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come at home early next week against the Rangers.

Athletics' Brady Basso: Receives another start
Basso is listed as the Athletics' scheduled starting pitcher for Wednesday's game against the Cubs at Wrigley Field.
Basso will make another turn through the rotation after he was summoned from Triple-A Las Vegas this past week to replace injured starter Osvaldo Bido (wrist). Through his first two MLB starts, Basso has struck out eight while allowing 10 baserunners over 11.1 scoreless innings, though his outings came against two of MLB's weaker offenses in the Tigers and White Sox. The road matchup with the Cubs will represent the 26-year-old lefty's toughest test to date.

Athletics' Brady Basso: Collects first career win
Basso (1-0) was the pitcher of record in Friday's 2-0 win over White Sox, pitching 5.1 scoreless innings while yielding five hits and one walk. He struck out two.
Stepping into the rotation as a replacement for Osvaldo Bido (wrist), Basso made the most of the opportunity and secured his first big-league victory with a tidy 77-pitch performance. Basso worked around five singles as the Chicago lineup couldn't manage to get a runner past second base against him. The 26-year-old has performed well over his first 14.2 innings in the majors, pitching to a 1.23 ERA, 2.97 FIP, 0.89 WHIP and 11:2 K:BB. If Basso sticks in the Oakland rotation, he will line up to make his next start against the Cubs on the road next week.

Athletics' Brady Basso: Recalled from Triple-A
The Athletics recalled Basso from Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday.
Basso was just sent down Sunday but is back to take the roster spot of the injured Osvaldo Bido (wrist). He could also take Bido's spot in the rotation with a start later this week. Basso went six shutout innings against the Tigers on Saturday in his first major-league start.
