  • Phillies' Jhoan Duran: Secures 32nd save

Duran earned the save in Friday's 3-1 win over the Twins, allowing two hits and no walks with two strikeouts in a scoreless ninth inning. Duran needed 23 pitches to escape with the save, stranding two runners in scoring position with a game-ending flyout. The 27-year-old has been shaky of late, giving up runs in three of his past five appearances with just one clean outing in that span. For the season, he's 32-for-37 in save chances with a 2.06 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 80:19 K:BB across 70 innings.

  • Phillies' Jhoan Duran: Blows fifth save

Duran struck out one and gave up one run on two hits in the ninth inning Tuesday to blow his fifth save of the season in a 6-5 extra-innings loss to the Marlins. Cristopher Sanchez blanked Miami for seven innings and handed a 3-0 lead off to his bullpen, but David Robertson gave up two runs in the eighth before Duran served up a game-tying solo shot to Heriberto Hernandez. Duran's blown two of his last three save chances and has now allowed runs in three of his last four appearances, an ominous sign for Phillies fans traumatized by years of bullpen collapses no matter what name is on the back of the jersey. The 27-year-old flamethrower still sports an outstanding 2.29 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and 25:1 K:BB over 19.2 innings since being acquired from the Twins at the trade deadline.

Duran pitched a perfect inning to earn the save in Tuesday's 9-6 win over the Dodgers. Duran took a blown save Monday, but he was sharper Tuesday, throwing just 12 pitches (seven strikes) to retire the side. He's up to 31 saves on the year, 15 of which have come in a Phillies uniform since he was traded from the Twins. The closer has added a 1.88 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 75:19 K:BB through 67 innings between the two teams this season, with an even better 1.53 ERA and 0.79 WHIP over 17.2 innings for Philadelphia.

Duran allowed a game-tying solo shot to Andy Pages in the ninth inning of this back-and-forth contest. This was Duran's fourth blown save of the season, two of which have come with the Phillies. However, he's allowed just four runs (three earned) over 16.2 innings for Philadelphia, providing reliable pitching in the closer role. Overall, he's picked up 30 saves with a 1.91 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 75:19 K:BB through 66 innings this season.

Duran worked a scoreless frame, allowing two hits and no walks, to collect the save in Monday's 1-0 win against the Mets. He struck out two. The flamethrowing righty escaped from a jam in which runners were on second and third with one out, fanning the final two batters he faced. Despite almost blowing this save, Duran has been one of the best relievers in the league since joining Philadelphia at the trade deadline, pitching to a 1.32 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 17:0 K:BB in 13.2 innings. Overall, the 27-year-old sports a 1.86 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 70:18 K:BB across 63 total frames with the Phillies and Twins.

Duran (6-6) took the loss Tuesday against the Mets, allowing one run on four hits and no walks. He failed to record an out. The Mets strung together four straight hits to walk it off, though it wasn't a save situation for Duran in a 5-5 game to begin the ninth inning. The hard-throwing right-hander has now permitted a run in two of his past three outings, although he should remain Philadelphia's closer going forward. Duran owns a 2.35 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 9:0 K:BB over his first 7.2 innings with the Phillies.

  • Phillies' Jhoan Duran: Blows first save as Phillie

Duran (6-5) blew the save and took the loss Friday, giving up two runs (one earned) on two hits in the ninth inning as the Phillies fell 5-4 to the Nationals. He struck out three without walking a batter. Called in to protect a 4-3 lead in the top of the ninth, Duran gave up a one-out double to Dylan Crews and an RBI single to Daylen Lile to tie the game. Lile then stole third and scampered home on a J.T. Realmuto throwing error for the winning run, tagging Duran with his first blown save in seven chances since being acquired by Philadelphia. Despite the stumble, the right-hander still has a 1.35 ERA, 0.60 WHIP and 8:0 K:BB over 6.2 innings for his new team, and his spot as closer is in no jeopardy.

  • Phillies' Jhoan Duran: Converts 21st save

Duran picked up the save Sunday against the Nationals, striking out one over a perfect two-thirds of an inning. Duran was carted off the field Friday after taking a comebacker to the ankle, but he avoided structural damage and said Saturday he was feeling 100 percent. The Phillies didn't require his services in Saturday's loss. However, they called upon Duran midway through the ninth inning Sunday after Max Lazar surrendered a three-run home run to trim the lead to two runs. Duran came in and retired Dylan Crews and James Wood back-to-back to earn his 21st save. The 27-year-old closer has converted each of his last 11 save opportunities, notching a 1.93 ERA and a 17:4 K:BB across 18.2 innings during that stretch.

  • Phillies' Jhoan Duran: Feeling 100 percent

Duran (ankle) said Saturday that he's feeling 100 percent after being carted off the field during Friday's game, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. It's an incredibly encouraging sign for the 27-year-old closer, who was struck by a comebacker in the right ankle Friday. Duran appears to be feeling well enough to pitch, but the Phillies could opt to give him a night off as a precaution, given his critical role and the team's recent investment.

X-rays on Duran's right ankle came back negative after he left Friday's game against Washington on a cart, Charlotte Varnes of The Athletic reports. Duran was hit on the ankle by a comebacker in the ninth inning and had to leave the game on a cart. The Phillies will evaluate him further Saturday, but for the moment, it seems like the 27-year-old managed to escape the incident without suffering any structural damage. If he ends up needing to miss any time, Matt Strahm and Orion Kerkering would be the primary candidates to close games for the Phillies going forward.

Duran notched the save in Sunday's 4-2 win at Texas, allowing one hit and no walks in a scoreless inning with one strikeout. The 27-year-old flamethrower worked around a one-out single to secure his third save since joining Philadelphia at the trade deadline. This marks the third consecutive season Duran has reached the 20-save plateau, as he remains one of the game's elite relievers. Through 53.1 total innings with the Phillies and Twins, the right-hander has pitched to a 1.86 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 56:18 K:BB.

  • Phillies' Jhoan Duran: Secures save Sunday

Duran struck out one in a perfect inning to earn the save in Sunday's 2-0 win over the Tigers. Duran has converted a save in each of his first two appearances for the Phillies after being traded from the Twins at the deadline. The right-hander had a bit of a bumpy July to close out his Minnesota tenure, allowing four runs on 14 hits and four walks over 12 innings last month. Duran's save quantity should take a step up now that he's pitching for a contender, and he's unlikely to be challenged for closing duties. He's maintained a 1.93 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 54:18 K:BB through 51.1 innings while converting 18 of 20 save chances this season.

It was an ideal debut with his new club and a strong rebound after allowing a run and throwing 27 pitches in his last outing Monday. For the season, the 27-year-old is 17-for-19 in save chances with a 1.97 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 53:18 K:BB across 50.1 innings.

The Twins traded Duran to the Phillies on Wednesday in exchange for Eduardo Tait and Mick Abel, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports. The Phillies make a huge addition to their bullpen by acquiring Duran, who owns a 2.01 ERA and 1.18 WHIP alongside a 53:18 K:BB through 49.1 innings and has collected 16 saves so far this year. The 27-year-old flamethrower will most likely take over as Philadelphia's primary closer, moving Matt Strahm and Orion Kerkering into setup roles.

Duran tallied the save in Wednesday's 4-2 win over the Cubs, throwing a clean ninth inning with no strikeouts. Duran wasn't available for Tuesday's win over Chicago due to an illness, but he was feeling well enough to nail down his 14th save of the season Wednesday. The hard-throwing right-hander posted his fifth scoreless outing in a row, and he should continue to serve as the Twins' closer going forward. Through 41.1 innings this year, Duran holds an excellent 1.52 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 45:16 K:BB.
