Astros' Logan VanWey: Returned to Sugar Land
The Astros optioned VanWey to Triple-A Sugar Land on Friday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.
VanWey will cede his spot on the 26-man roster to Lance McCullers (finger), who is coming off the injured list to start Friday's game. The 26-year-old logged a 5.59 ERA and 1.86 WHIP in 9.2 innings with the Astros. He has a 4.34 ERA in 18.2 innings with Sugar Land in 2025.

VanWey (undisclosed) struck out a batter and allowed no hits and no walks over a scoreless inning of relief for Triple-A Sugar Land on Saturday after being reinstated from the 7-day injured list.
VanWey was out of action for Sugar Land for about a month before he was cleared to rejoin the Triple-A bullpen. The 25-year-old reliever was previously up with the Astros earlier this season and gave up six earned runs on 15 hits and three walks over 8.2 innings.

VanWey will join the Astros ahead of their series in Seattle after making four appearances out of the bullpen for Sugar Land so far this season, posting a 4.50 ERA and 2.00 WHIP with seven strikeouts over four innings. Houston is expected to option Luis Contreras to Triple-A to clear a spot in the bullpen for VanWey, who will be making his MLB debut whenever he gets into a game.
