Freeland has started three of the Dodgers' last four games and appears to be the preferred strong-side platoon option at second base for now. The infielder had gone hitless in his first two games during this call-up, but Sunday's performance was his sixth multi-hit effort in 36 games this season. He's batting .236 with a .679 OPS, three homers, 10 RBI, 13 runs scored, five doubles and no stolen bases over 121 plate appearances on the year.

Dodgers' Alex Freeland: Recalled from OKC
The Dodgers recalled Freeland from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Wednesday.
Freeland will return to Los Angeles to replace Enrique Hernandez, who is set to miss several weeks due to a severe left oblique strain. Freeland is expected to split reps at second base with Hyeseong Kim, though manager Dave Roberts said Wednesday that the former has earned a bit more runway and will therefore receive the lion's share of opportunities, per Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic.

Dodgers' Alex Freeland: Set to rejoin big club
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said after Tuesday's 15-6 win over the Rockies that Freeland will be recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City prior to Wednesday's series finale, Sonja Chen of MLB.com reports.
Freeland will be rejoining the 26-man active roster as a replacement for Enrique Hernandez, who will be headed back to the shelf after straining his oblique just two days after being reinstated from the 60-day injured list. The Dodgers designated Santiago Espinal for assignment to clear room on the roster for Hernandez, so the addition of Freeland will strengthen the club's infield depth. After breaking camp with the big club, Freeland slashed .235/.309/.337 with two home runs and eight RBI through 33 games before the Dodgers optioned him to Triple-A on May 11, when shortstop Mookie Betts returned from a stint on the IL. During his upcoming stint with Los Angeles, Freeland is likely to occupy the short side of a platoon at second base with Hyeseong Kim or at third base with Max Muncy (wrist).

He'll have an extended audition early in the season while Tommy Edman (ankle) is on the shelf. With the Dodgers' outfield mix set and Edman likely to see his time at second base once healthy, Freeland will need to perform well to stick around on the major-league roster as a potential utility bat. Freeland struggled during his first experience in the majors last season, posting a .602 OPS with a 36.1 percent strikeout rate over 97 plate appearances. However, he recorded an .835 OPS with 16 homers, 18 stolen bases and 82 RBI across 106 games at Triple-A, so he doesn't have much left to prove at that level. Freeland, Kim and Rojas appear to be in a truly open competition to be the Opening Day starter at the keystone, and Freeland probably has the most to gain since he may begin the campaign in the minors if he doesn't win the positional battle.
