  • Mariners' Austin Kitchen: Sent back to minors camp

The Mariners reassigned Kitchen to minor-league camp Wednesday. Kitchen made four relief appearances with Miami during the 2024 season before being claimed off waivers by Seattle in September. He finished the season on the Mariners' 40-man roster before being outrighted in January, so he never seemed to be a likely candidate to claim a spot in Seattle's Opening Day bullpen. Kitchen is expected to work in relief at Triple-A Tacoma to begin the upcoming season.

  • Mariners' Austin Kitchen: Clears waivers

Kitchen cleared waivers Thursday and was sent outright to Triple-A Tacoma. Kitchen never made an appearance for the M's after being claimed off waivers in September, though he did make four appearances for the Marlins, surrendering 11 earned runs in just seven frames. He'll now serve as organizational depth in the Rainiers' bullpen.

Kitchen was a September waiver claim of the Mariners and didn't make an appearance for them. He allowed 12 runs (11 earned) over seven innings with the Marlins in 2024.

  • Mariners' Austin Kitchen: Lands with Seattle

The Mariners claimed Kitchen off waivers from the Marlins on Monday and optioned him to Triple-A Tacoma. Seattle designated infielder Jason Vosler for assignment to clear room on the 40-man roster for Kitchen, a 27-year-old lefty reliever. He reached the big leagues for the first time this season but was lit up in his four appearances out of the Miami bullpen, giving up 11 earned runs on 16 hits and three walks over seven innings.

  • Marlins' Austin Kitchen: Chased early in loss

Kitchen (0-1) yielded seven runs (six earned) on nine hits over two innings Friday, striking out one and taking a loss against the Phillies. Kitchen was thrust into a spot start after Edward Cabrera (migraine) was scratched Friday. The Phillies jumped on Kitchen early, plating three runs in the first before scoring four more in the second. It was the rookie's first career MLB start and he saw his ERA jump from 9.00 to 14.14 through seven innings. Kitchen shouldn't be expected to stick around in the rotation.
