  • Dodgers' Jackson Ferris: Effectively wild at Double-A

    Ferris has a 3.89 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 124:61 K:BB in 115.2 innings for Double-A Tulsa.

The 6-foot-4 lefty is the second-youngest qualified pitcher at Double-A (Ferris turns 22 in January), so he can be given a little slack for not having pinpoint control at this stage. However, Ferris logged an 11.5 percent walk rate in 28.1 innings at Double-A last year and has an 11.9 percent walk rate this year, so things aren't trending in the right direction. He issued six walks in 6.2 innings in his most recent start Aug. 29 and has walked three or more batters in five of his last six starts, although he has been effectively wild (2.08 ERA, one home run allowed) during that stretch.

  • Dodgers' Jackson Ferris: Reaches Double-A at 20

Ferris has a 3.09 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 21:13 K:BB in 23.1 innings over six starts since getting promoted to Double-A Tulsa on Aug. 2.

The 20-year-old southpaw was much more impressive through 20 starts for High-A Great Lakes, logging a 3.39 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 119 strikeouts in 98.1 innings. He threw 56 innings at Single-A in 2023 before getting traded from the Cubs to the Dodgers in the offseason deal that sent Michael Busch to Chicago. Ferris has built up to 121.2 innings and doesn't turn 21 until January, so this season has been a big success. He should return to Double-A next year and has the upside to keep climbing prospect rankings.

  • Dodgers' Jackson Ferris: Dealt to Dodgers

Ferris was traded from the Cubs to the Dodgers along with Zyhir Hope on Thursday in exchange for Michael Busch and Yency Almonte, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports.

This is a nice pickup for the Dodgers, as Almonte and Busch were spare parts and Ferris is a high-upside lefty whom they won't need to add to the 40-man roster for several seasons. Ferris, who turns 20 later this month, is 6-foot-4 and is extremely projectable. He had a 3.38 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, 77 strikeouts and a 53.4 percent groundball rate in 56 innings (18 starts) at Single-A in 2023. The Dodgers should be able to maximize his electric arsenal, and his top priority in 2024 will be building up his workload while showing he can turn a lineup over more than once.

  • Cubs' Jackson Ferris: Flashes of dominance at Single-A

    Ferris has a 3.29 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and a 35:15 K:BB in 27.1 innings across 10 starts for Single-A Myrtle Beach.

His best outing of the year was his first pro start May 5 against Columbia, where he struck out a career-high seven batters over three no-hit innings. Ferris, an uber-projectable 6-foot-4 lefty, has yet to complete four innings in a start, but he has flashed a very high ceiling.
