  • Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Goes five strong in bulk relief

Suarez (1-0) spun five innings of one-run ball out of the bullpen to pick up the victory in Wednesday's 8-2 win over the Dodgers in Game 3 of the NLDS. Aaron Nola drew the start for the Phillies but was lifted after two scoreless frames in favor of Suarez. The left-hander served up a solo home run to the first batter he faced in Tommy Edman, but Suarez settled in after that, holding the Dodgers off the scoreboard on four hits and one walk while striking out five. It's unlikely Suarez will be available to pitch for the rest of the NLDS, but he'll either be part of the Phillies' rotation or continue to operate in a bulk-relief role should his team advance to the NLCS.

  • Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Will pitch in Game 3

Suarez (thigh) will follow starter Aaron Nola in Game 3 of the National League Division Series against the Dodgers on Wednesday, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports. Suarez hasn't pitched since his last start of the regular season Sept. 27 against the Twins, when he exited after being struck by a comebacker. Nola will be tasked with starting Wednesday's matchup, but considering the Phillies are facing elimination, Suarez could be called on at any time.

  • Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Exits early Saturday

Suarez (thigh) exited Saturday's contest against the Twins in the fifth inning, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports. Suarez was hit in the groin area by a comebacker in the top of the fifth, ultimately leaving the contest thereafter. The left-hander was laughing as he walked off, and the team deemed it to be an inner-thigh contusion on his left leg. More information on his status will likely be provided in the near future, but in the meantime, Max Lazar replaced him on the mound versus Minnesota.

  • Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Jumped on early in loss

Suarez (12-7) took the loss Sunday against the Diamondbacks, giving up six runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out two over four innings. Suarez was tagged for all six runs in the first two frames, capped off by a three-run homer from Corbin Carroll, before finishing the day with back-to-back clean innings. The rough outing snapped a dominant stretch in which the right-hander had posted a 1.47 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 44:8 K:BB across his previous six starts, including a trio of double-digit strikeout games. It also marked his shortest outing since May 4, when he was tagged for seven runs in 3.1 innings. The 30-year-old now sits at a 3.12 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 147:38 K:BB over 153 innings and is slated for his next start against the Twins.

  • Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Turns in quality start

Suarez allowed three runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out five over six innings in a no-decision versus the Dodgers on Monday. Suarez wasn't at his best, allowing a solo home run to Max Muncy and a pair of sacrifice flies to Mookie Betts, but it was still enough for a quality start. This was the first time in five starts Suarez has allowed multiple runs -- he's surrendered just four runs over 30 innings in that span. For the season, he's produced a 2.84 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 145:37 K:BB through 149 innings over 24 starts. The veteran southpaw is projected for a home start versus the Marlins next week if the Phillies continue to deploy a six-man rotation.

Suarez (12-6) allowed a hit and three walks over six shutout frames Tuesday, striking out 12 and earning a win over the Mets. Suarez rolled through the Mets' lineup with ease and let only one runner reach scoring position. He racked up a season-high 12 punchouts and has double-digit strikeouts in three of his last five outings. Suarez did not produce double-digit strikeouts in any of his first 18 starts. Over his last five appearances, he's 4-0 with a 0.88 ERA over 30.2 innings. Suarez has dropped his season ERA to 2.77 with a 140:33 K:BB through 143 innings. He's currently projected for a road matchup with the Dodgers next week.

  • Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Six shutout frames in 11th win

Suarez (11-6) picked up the win Thursday against the Brewers, allowing six hits and two walks in six scoreless innings. He struck out four. Suarez boasts a 2.89 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 128:32 K:BB over his 137 innings, and he's next in line for a stiff assignment against a Mets team with an .845 OPS versus left-handed pitching since the beginning of August.

  • Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Dodges damage in no-decision

Suarez didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 2-1 win over Atlanta, allowing one run on 10 hits and one walk over five innings. He struck out two. The lefty didn't have his best stuff and dealt with runners in scoring position during every inning he worked, but Suarez was able to limit the damage and leave the mound after 92 pitches (58 strikes) with the score tied 1-1. It was an abrupt fall back to earth after he'd struck out 23 batters in 13.2 innings while winning his prior two outings, but he appears to be back on track after stumbling to a 6.59 ERA over his first five trips to the mound coming out of the All-Star break. Suarez faces a tough challenge in his next start, which is scheduled to come on the road next week in Milwaukee.

On the year, the 29-year-old owns a 3.07 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 122:29 K:BB across 126 innings and lines up for a home matchup with Atlanta next weekend.

Suarez took a 2.15 ERA into the All-Star break, but he's been struggling since, getting tagged for at least five runs in three of his last five starts while stumbling to a 6.59 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and 23:7 K:BB over 28.2 innings. He'll try to get back on track in his next outing, which lines up to come at home early next week against the Mariners.

Suarez (7-4) took the loss against the Angels on Sunday, allowing six runs on eight hits and four walks with four strikeouts over 4.1 innings. Suarez was mostly undone by a five-run second inning but struggled throughout the contest, throwing just 58 of 100 pitches for strikes while issuing four walks for the first time in 14 starts. It marked a rare hiccup for the southpaw, who hadn't allowed more than three earned runs in an outing since his season debut. He'll carry a 2.66 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 82:26 K:BB across 88 innings into a road matchup with the Yankees next weekend.

  • Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Strong form in no-decision

Suarez allowed one run on five hits with six strikeouts and two walks over five innings Saturday against the Reds. He didn't factor in the decision. Suarez was unable to cover seven-plus frames for a sixth consecutive start, but he limited Cincinnati to a Will Benson solo homer before being pulled at 80 pitches. Manager Rob Thomsen said the left-hander was on a pitch count of 85 pitches due to his recent heavy workload, per the Associated Press. Suarez surrendered seven runs during his first start of the campaign but has given up just 10 earned runs in his past 11 outings. A matchup with the Padres likely awaits next weekend for his final appearance before the All-Star break.

Suarez (4-0) picked up the win in Tuesday's 2-0 victory over Atlanta, allowing four hits and three walks over six scoreless innings. He struck out eight. The eight Ks were a season high for the southpaw as he reeled off his fourth straight win and fourth straight quality start, while extending his scoreless streak to 13.2 innings. He'll look to keep rolling in his next outing, which is scheduled to come at home this weekend against the Brewers.
