The Royals acquired McGee from the Brewers in exchange for cash considerations Tuesday and subsequently optioned him to Triple-A Omaha.
The right-hander was designated for assignment by Milwaukee on Friday, and Kansas City elected to trade for him rather than risk a waiver claim. McGee covered a scoreless frame in both of his appearances for the Brewers this season but struggled to a 5.62 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and 43:17 K:BB across 41.2 innings at Triple-A.

McGee last pitched in the majors in 2023 with Seattle, when he shined with a 6.2-inning, one-hit scoreless start. However, he suffered an elbow injury in that contest and subsequently underwent Tommy John surgery. The right-hander has pitched well in Triple-A this season, posting a 3.44 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 20:9 K:BB over 18.1 innings across 13 relief outings. He'll presumably fill a spot in the Brewers' bullpen while up with the big club. To make room for Easton on the 40-man roster, Connor Thomas (elbow) was moved to the 60-day IL, and Tobias Myers was optioned to Triple-A to clear space on the 26-man roster.

Brewers' Easton McGee: Returns from Tommy John surgery
McGee (elbow) has given up eight runs (seven earned) on 15 hits and no walks while striking out five over 8.2 innings across three appearances for Triple-A Nashville since being reinstated from the 60-day injured list July 21.
Before beginning a rehab assignment in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League in late June, McGee had been sidelined all season while he completed his recovery from his May 2023 Tommy John surgery. Though he's been knocked around a bit since finishing his rehab assignment and joining Nashville, McGee has been a victim of some bad luck, as he has yet to allow a home run or issue a walk in his 8.2 innings.

Brewers' Easton McGee: Latches on with Milwaukee
McGee (elbow) signed a two-year, minor-league contract with the Brewers on Tuesday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
McGee was given an invitation to major-league spring training as part of the deal, but he'll spend it rehabbing after undergoing Tommy John surgery in May. The 25-year-old doesn't figure to be game-ready until around the middle of the 2024 season, but he is now locked in with the Brewers through 2025.
