  • Royals' Gavin Cross: Healthy for spring training

Cross (back) will start center field and bat eighth Thursday in a "B" game against the Rangers, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.

Cross finished the 2024 season on Double-A Northwest Arkansas' injured list on account of back discomfort, but he doesn't seem to be operating with any restrictions in the spring. He's already appeared in three Cactus League games and will get some more at-bats Thursday. The Royals are likely to reassign Cross to Triple-A Omaha or Northwest Arkansas before the end of spring training.

  • Royals' Gavin Cross: Lands on injured list

Cross was placed on the 7-day injured list by Double-A Northwest Arkansas on Thursday due to back discomfort, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.

This is the second time this year Cross has dealt with a back issue. He's spent the full season at Double-A, slashing .268/.348/.435 with 15 home runs, 30 stolen bases, 58 RBI and 55 runs scored over 101 contests. Given how late in the year this injury occurred, it's possible Cross is done playing for 2024.

  • Royals' Gavin Cross: Makes return from IL

Cross (back) returned from Double-A Northwest Arkansas' 7-day injured list Tuesday, starting in right field while going 1-for-4 with a run scored in the club's 7-4 win over Springfield.

Cross was out of commission for about a week and a half with a sore back before making his return to the Northwest Arkansas lineup. Through 201 plate appearances on the season, the 23-year-old outfielder is slashing .295/.378/.449 with five home runs and 12 stolen bases.

  • Royals' Gavin Cross: On injured list with back issue

Double-A Northwest Arkansas placed Cross on its 7-day injured list Wednesday due to back tightness, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.

Cross has been excellent with a .297/.381/.453 slash line over 46 contests with Northwest Arkansas this season. The outfield prospect will be sidelined at least a week before he'll be able to return to action.

  • Royals' Gavin Cross: Lands on injured list

Cross (illness) was placed on Double-A Northwest Arkansas' 7-day injured list Tuesday, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.

Cross has been feeling unwell the last few days and the team is being cautious by giving him some extra down time. He went 0-for-5 with a walk in his first two games with Northwest Arkansas before he exited the lineup, but it's not expected to be a long absence.

  • Royals' Gavin Cross: Climbs to Double-A

The Royals promoted Cross from High-A Quad Cities to Double-A Northwest Arkansas on Monday.

Cross will be making the jump to Double-A this week along with two of the Royals' other top position prospects in third baseman Cayden Wallace and middle infielder Javier Vaz. Over 407 plate appearances at Quad Cities this season, the 22-year-old outfielder slashed .206/.300/.383 with 12 home runs and 23 stolen bases in 94 games.

  • Royals' Gavin Cross: Scuffling for River Bandits

Cross is hitting .136 with 15 strikeouts and one walk in 11 July games for High-A Quad Cities.

He has a .667 OPS on the season and things seem to be trending in the wrong direction. Given that Cross is a 22-year-old who was the ninth overall pick in last year's draft, High-A shouldn't have been a big challenge for him, so these struggles are a pretty bad sign.
