Nationals' Cristhian Vaquero: Good to go for spring training
Vaquero (elbow) went 1-for-1 with a base hit and a stolen base Saturday in the Nationals' 2-1 win over the Astros in Grapefruit League play.
Vaquero looks to be back to full health after he missed the final few weeks of the 2025 campaign due to a dislocated left elbow. The 21-year-old outfielder is expected to open the 2026 season at Single-A Fredericksburg or High-A Wilmington.

Nationals' Cristhian Vaquero: Recovering from shoulder surgery
Vaquero had shoulder surgery last fall and will report to Single-A Fredericksburg once cleared, Sam Dykstra of MLB Pipeline reports.
It's not clear how long Vaquero will be out, but he suffered the injury to his left shoulder on a dive back to the bag in the Carolina League Championship Series. Vaquero hit .190 with five home runs and 29 steals in 103 games at Single-A in 2024.

Nationals' Cristhian Vaquero: Makes it to Single-A
Vaquero is hitting .228 with one home run and six steals in 14 games since being promoted to Single-A Fredericksburg on Aug. 22.
One of the top international signees in the Jan. 15, 2022 international signing class, Vaquero's speed and athleticism have generally been as advertised in pro ball, but he hasn't flashed much power potential. Despite standing 6-foot-3, the Cuban outfielder has just three home runs in 111 games while playing most of his games in hitter-friendly rookie-level conditions. Additionally, his 50 percent groundball rate and 19.4 percent hard-hit rate suggest he currently has below-average power potential. The switch hitter should open his age-19 season back at Single-A.
