  • Padres' Luis Rengifo: Getting rest Saturday

Rengifo isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against Cleveland.

Rengifo has notched four hits -- including a grand slam -- across his last three games but will retreat to the bench to begin Saturday's contest. Austin Hays will take over in left field and bat seventh.

  • Padres' Luis Rengifo: Blasts grand slam in rout

Rengifo went 2-for-5 with a grand slam and four RBI in Tuesday's 11-2 win over the Brewers.

Rengifo came to the plate against his former team with the bases loaded and two outs in the second inning after San Diego had already pushed across a run, and he broke the game open with a grand slam off Kyle Harrison for his third homer of the season. The long ball snapped a 12-game drought without driving in a run. Through 81 games this season, Rengifo is slashing .241/.322/.316 with three home runs, 11 doubles, 31 RBI, 34 runs scored and six stolen bases.

  • Padres' Luis Rengifo: Logs sixth steal

Rengifo went 1-for-5 with a stolen base and two runs scored in Tuesday's 9-4 win over the Diamondbacks.

Rengifo has gone five games without a multi-hit effort, but he's drawn four walks and added two stolen bases in that span. The switch hitter continues to fill a utility role, though he has had a fair amount of success in pushing Gavin Sheets for time in left field. Overall, Rengifo is batting .237 with a .628 OPS, six steals, two home runs, 27 RBI and 32 runs scored over 74 contests between San Diego and Milwaukee.

  • Padres' Luis Rengifo: Notches fifth steal

Rengifo went 1-for-3 with two walks, one stolen base and three runs scored in Friday's 7-0 win over the Giants.

Rengifo continues to thrive in a utility role for the Padres. He's now settled in as the No. 2 hitter against southpaws while seeing time at second base, third base, left field and designated hitter over the last week. He's batting .381 (16-for-42) over 13 games since joining the Padres' big-league roster July 8. On the year, the utility man is batting .238 with a .629 OPS, two home runs, five steals, 27 RBI, 29 runs scored and 11 doubles over 70 games between San Diego and Milwaukee.

  • Padres' Luis Rengifo: Moving into regular role

Rengifo will start at third base and bat sixth in Sunday's game against the Marlins.

Rengifo appears to be pushing his way into a near-everyday role for San Diego, starting for the fifth time in six contests. Since being called up from Triple-A El Paso on July 8, Rengifo has gone 11-for-26 (.423) with two home runs, one stolen base, three walks, seven RBI and six runs.

  • Padres' Luis Rengifo: Clubs game-winning pinch-hit homer

Rengifo went 1-for-1 with a two-run homer and a run scored in the Padres' 4-2 win over the Marlins on Friday.

Rengifo was called on to pinch hit for Luis Campusano in the eighth inning and delivered, crushing a two-run home run to put San Diego up for good. The 29-year-old belted his second homer in his last three games. On the campaign, the switch hitter is now slashing .231/.302/.303 with two homers and 26 RBI in 234 plate appearances.

  • Padres' Luis Rengifo: Racks up three knocks Sunday

Rengifo went 3-for-5 with a walk and three runs scored Sunday in a 19-2 rout of the Royals.

Rengifo was one of six Padres with multiple hits in the runaway win, recording his first three knocks since joining San Diego. The utility man hasn't gotten many opportunities since his contract was selected July 8 -- Sunday was his first start and just his second appearance since that date. Despite some past success in the majors that includes a pair of double-digit homer seasons and a 24-theft campaign, Rengifo isn't likely to make waves in fantasy unless he begins to receive more playing time.

  • Padres' Luis Rengifo: Joins big club

The Padres selected Rengifo's contract from Triple-A El Paso on Wednesday.

With Samad Taylor (oblique) moving to the injured list Wednesday, the Padres will turn to Rengifo to bolster the club's infield depth. The 29-year-old was released by Milwaukee in June after slashing just .205/.280/.254 across 209 plate appearances, but he's gone 8-for-25 with two home runs, seven RBI and five runs scored in six games with El Paso since signing a minor-league deal with San Diego.

  • Padres' Luis Rengifo: Gets MiLB deal from Padres

The Padres signed Rengifo to a minor-league contract Friday, Dennis Lin of The Athletic reports.

Rengifo was officially released by the Brewers earlier this week after slashing only .205/.280/.254 with no home runs across 57 contests. The utility player is hitting just .229/.285/.313 in the majors since the beginning of the 2025 season, but he offers plenty of versatility and could get another chance with the big club sooner rather than later.

  • Luis Rengifo: Parts ways with Brewers

The Brewers released Rengifo on Tuesday, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

The veteran infielder was designated for assignment last week and will now hit the open market. Rengifo joined Milwaukee on a one-year, $3.5 million contract during the offseason but struggled to a .205/.280/.254 slash line with no homers, three steals, 19 RBI and 19 runs in 57 games.

  • Brewers' Luis Rengifo: Officially DFA'd

The Brewers designated Rengifo for assignment Tuesday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

The move is hardly a surprise with the recent news that prospect Cooper Pratt is being promoted to the big-league roster. Rengifo inked a one-year, $3.5 million contract with Milwaukee in February, but he never got his bat on track with a .205/.280/.254 slash line in 209 plate appearances while also struggling defensively.

  • Brewers' Luis Rengifo: Expected to be DFA'd

The Brewers will designate Rengifo for assignment prior to Tuesday's contest against the Guardians, Pat Ragazzo of Athlon Sports reports.

The Brewers need to free up a roster spot for Cooper Pratt, who will be called up for his major-league debut. Rengifo is slashing only .205/.280/.254 with zero home runs this season, and he's started just one of the last four games. With Pratt on the way and David Hamilton and Joey Ortiz also on the roster, Rengifo's playing time was likely to drop further. Rengifo is a safe bet to clear waivers and become a free agent, and if that happens, the Brewers will be responsible of what remains of his $3.5 million salary.

  • Brewers' Luis Rengifo: Losing out on playing time

Rengifo will start at third base and bat fifth in Sunday's game against the Phillies.

Though he'll be part of the starting nine Sunday while southpaw Cristopher Sanchez toes the rubber for Philadelphia, Rengifo was out of the lineup the previous three games when Milwaukee faced right-handed starters or bulk relievers. Rengifo has gone just 4-for-24 (.167 average) over his last nine games and appears to have faded into a utility role, with the Brewers having prioritized Joey Ortiz and David Hamilton ahead of him on the left side of the infield.

  • Brewers' Luis Rengifo: Resting up Wednesday

Rengifo isn't in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Athletics.

Rengifo will move to the bench to begin Wednesday's series finale after going 1-for-7 with two walks, a run and four strikeouts across the first two games. David Hamilton will shift to third base as a result, giving Joey Ortiz a start at shortstop.

  • Brewers' Luis Rengifo: Riding pine Saturday

Rengifo isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Rockies.

Rengifo will grab a seat on the bench after going 3-for-16 with three RBI and three runs scored over his last five games. His absence will put David Hamilton at third base and Joey Ortiz in the lineup as Milwaukee's shortstop.

  • Brewers' Luis Rengifo: On bench again Sunday

Rengifo is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Astros.

It's the second straight game on the bench for Rengifo, who has gone 5-for-36 (.139) with no extra-base hits while committing four errors over his past 11 contests. Joey Ortiz is manning shortstop Sunday while David Hamilton shifts to third base in Rengifo's place.

  • Brewers' Luis Rengifo: Sitting Saturday

Rengifo isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against Houston.

Rengifo will retreat to the bench Saturday after going 0-for-4 with a strikeout during Friday's contest. David Hamilton will man the hot corner while Joey Ortiz starts at shortstop.

  • Brewers' Luis Rengifo: Starting third straight game

Rengifo will start at third base and bat seventh in Wednesday's game against the Cardinals.

Rengifo will stick in the starting nine for the third game in a row, after he reached base four times and stole a base during the first two contests of the series. The 29-year-old is still holding down a .531 OPS and a 52 wRC+ on the season, so despite his recent usage, he's far from locked in as an everyday player on the left side of the Milwaukee infield.

  • Brewers' Luis Rengifo: Playing time on decline

Rengifo is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers.

He'll head to the bench for the third time in four games and looks to have moved into a utility role while Joey Ortiz has at least temporarily reclaimed his job at shortstop. Rengifo's downturn in opportunities comes while he's mustered a lowly .489 OPS in May.
