Rengifo came to the plate against his former team with the bases loaded and two outs in the second inning after San Diego had already pushed across a run, and he broke the game open with a grand slam off Kyle Harrison for his third homer of the season. The long ball snapped a 12-game drought without driving in a run. Rengifo went 1-for-3 with two walks, one stolen base and three runs scored in Friday's 7-0 win over the Giants.
Rengifo continues to thrive in a utility role for the Padres. He's now settled in as the No. 2 hitter against southpaws while seeing time at second base, third base, left field and designated hitter over the last week. He's batting .381 (16-for-42) over 13 games since joining the Padres' big-league roster July 8. Rengifo was one of six Padres with multiple hits in the runaway win, recording his first three knocks since joining San Diego. The utility man hasn't gotten many opportunities since his contract was selected July 8 -- Sunday was his first start and just his second appearance since that date. Despite some past success in the majors that includes a pair of double-digit homer seasons and a 24-theft campaign, Rengifo isn't likely to make waves in fantasy unless he begins to receive more playing time.

The Padres selected Rengifo's contract from Triple-A El Paso on Wednesday.
With Samad Taylor (oblique) moving to the injured list Wednesday, the Padres will turn to Rengifo to bolster the club's infield depth. Padres' Luis Rengifo: Gets MiLB deal from Padres
The Padres signed Rengifo to a minor-league contract Friday, Dennis Lin of The Athletic reports.
Rengifo was officially released by the Brewers earlier this week after slashing only .205/.280/.254 with no home runs across 57 contests. The utility player is hitting just .229/.285/.313 in the majors since the beginning of the 2025 season, but he offers plenty of versatility and could get another chance with the big club sooner rather than later.

Luis Rengifo: Parts ways with Brewers
The Brewers released Rengifo on Tuesday, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
The veteran infielder was designated for assignment last week and will now hit the open market. Rengifo joined Milwaukee on a one-year, $3.5 million contract during the offseason but struggled to a .205/.280/.254 slash line with no homers, three steals, 19 RBI and 19 runs in 57 games.

The Brewers need to free up a roster spot for Cooper Pratt, who will be called up for his major-league debut. With Pratt on the way and David Hamilton and Joey Ortiz also on the roster, Rengifo's playing time was likely to drop further.
