Brewers' Luis Rengifo: Officially DFA'd
The Brewers designated Rengifo for assignment Tuesday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
The move is hardly a surprise with the recent news that prospect Cooper Pratt is being promoted to the big-league roster. Rengifo inked a one-year, $3.5 million contract with Milwaukee in February, but he never got his bat on track with a .205/.280/.254 slash line in 209 plate appearances while also struggling defensively.

Brewers' Luis Rengifo: Expected to be DFA'd
The Brewers will designate Rengifo for assignment prior to Tuesday's contest against the Guardians, Pat Ragazzo of Athlon Sports reports.
The Brewers need to free up a roster spot for Cooper Pratt, who will be called up for his major-league debut. Rengifo is slashing only .205/.280/.254 with zero home runs this season, and he's started just one of the last four games. With Pratt on the way and David Hamilton and Joey Ortiz also on the roster, Rengifo's playing time was likely to drop further. Rengifo is a safe bet to clear waivers and become a free agent, and if that happens, the Brewers will be responsible of what remains of his $3.5 million salary.

Brewers' Luis Rengifo: Losing out on playing time
Rengifo will start at third base and bat fifth in Sunday's game against the Phillies.
Though he'll be part of the starting nine Sunday while southpaw Cristopher Sanchez toes the rubber for Philadelphia, Rengifo was out of the lineup the previous three games when Milwaukee faced right-handed starters or bulk relievers. Rengifo has gone just 4-for-24 (.167 average) over his last nine games and appears to have faded into a utility role, with the Brewers having prioritized Joey Ortiz and David Hamilton ahead of him on the left side of the infield.

Brewers' Luis Rengifo: Resting up Wednesday
Rengifo isn't in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Athletics.
Rengifo will move to the bench to begin Wednesday's series finale after going 1-for-7 with two walks, a run and four strikeouts across the first two games. David Hamilton will shift to third base as a result, giving Joey Ortiz a start at shortstop.

Brewers' Luis Rengifo: Riding pine Saturday
Rengifo isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Rockies.
Rengifo will grab a seat on the bench after going 3-for-16 with three RBI and three runs scored over his last five games. His absence will put David Hamilton at third base and Joey Ortiz in the lineup as Milwaukee's shortstop.

Rengifo is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Astros.
It's the second straight game on the bench for Rengifo, who has gone 5-for-36 (.139) with no extra-base hits while committing four errors over his past 11 contests. Joey Ortiz is manning shortstop Sunday while David Hamilton shifts to third base in Rengifo's place.

Brewers' Luis Rengifo: Starting third straight game
Rengifo will start at third base and bat seventh in Wednesday's game against the Cardinals.
Rengifo will stick in the starting nine for the third game in a row, after he reached base four times and stole a base during the first two contests of the series. The 29-year-old is still holding down a .531 OPS and a 52 wRC+ on the season, so despite his recent usage, he's far from locked in as an everyday player on the left side of the Milwaukee infield.

Brewers' Luis Rengifo: Playing time on decline
Rengifo is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers.
He'll head to the bench for the third time in four games and looks to have moved into a utility role while Joey Ortiz has at least temporarily reclaimed his job at shortstop. Rengifo's downturn in opportunities comes while he's mustered a lowly .489 OPS in May.

Brewers' Luis Rengifo: Leading off in series finale
Rengifo will start at third base and bat leadoff in Sunday's game against the Nationals, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
Rengifo had been scheduled to get Sunday off, but he'll instead make a fifth consecutive start as a result of Brice Turang (illness) being a late scratch. David Hamilton will slide over from third base to second base to make room in the lineup for Rengifo, who will replace Turang as the club's table setter.

Brewers' Luis Rengifo: Not in Tuesday's lineup
Rengifo is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Diamondbacks.
Rengifo started eight of Milwaukee's past 10 games and started that stretch hot by going 6-for-17, but he's followed that with just one hit in his last 11 at-bats. Joey Ortiz will return to the starting nine at shortstop Tuesday while David Hamilton mans the hot corner.

Brewers' Luis Rengifo: Run of starts ends
Rengifo is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Tigers.
Rengifo will hit the bench after he had drawn starts in each of the last five games while going 5-for-16 with two doubles, two walks, three RBI, three runs and one stolen base. Joey Ortiz is back in the lineup Wednesday after sitting for three of those five contests, but he's put together a weak .192/.263/.192 slash line over 59 plate appearances, which has loosened his grip on the everyday role at shortstop. If Ortiz ends up losing playing time, Rengifo would likely take over as the Brewers' primary third baseman, with David Hamilton shifting over to shortstop.

Brewers' Luis Rengifo: First-ever start at first base
Rengifo will make his first professional start at first base in Thursday's game versus the Blue Jays.
Injuries have forced the Brewers to scramble a bit, and they will give Rengifo a shot at first base. Rengifo is off to an uninspiring .128/.180/.213 start at the plate this season and has been playing second fiddle to David Hamilton at third base.

Brewers' Luis Rengifo: Run of starts comes to end
Rengifo is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Nationals.
Rengifo will take a seat after he had started at third base the last six games, going just 2-for-25 with a pair of doubles and a walk during that stretch. The Brewers should continue to find at-bats for Rengifo against left-handed pitching, but he'll need to perform better to earn consistent opportunities versus righties.
