Garcia went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in Monday's 13-7 loss to the Cardinals.
Making his Yankees debut, Garcia made an immediate splash Monday. His RBI upside could take a slight hit in the interim from the move away from a Nationals lineup with All-Stars James Wood and CJ Abrams, but that should change once New York gets Cody Bellinger (hamstring) and Aaron Judge (ribs) back from the injured list later this year. Through 361 at-bats, Garcia is hitting .285 with 24 homers, 20 doubles, five triples and 78 RBI.

Nationals' Luis Garcia: Trade nearing completion
Manager Blake Butera said after Sunday's 4-2 loss to Atlanta that Garcia was scratched from the lineup after the skipper was informed that a trade was "really close," Mark Zuckerman of NatsJournal.com reports.
Butera noted that nothing is official and didn't mention a trade partner, but Joel Sherman of the New York Post indicates that the Yankees and Nationals are close to reaching a deal. Garcia has already clubbed a career-high 23 home runs this season, and his .873 OPS through 104 games would also be a career-best mark.

Yankees' Luis Garcia: Traded to Yankees
Garcia was traded from the Nationals to the Yankees on Sunday in exchange for Ben Grable, Yovanny Cruz, Jack Cebert and Jake Bird, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports.
Garcia will head to the Bronx after posting a .283/.313/.560 slash with 23 home runs, 76 RBI, 48 runs scored and four stolen bases over 357 at-bats in 104 contests with the Nationals this season. The 26-year-old has started 93 contests at first base and the other nine at designated hitter, but prior to 2026, Garcia operated primarily as a second baseman, and he may be asked to spell Jazz Chisholm at that spot occasionally.

Nationals' Luis Garcia: Late scratch from starting nine
The Nationals scratched Garcia from the lineup for Sunday's game in Atlanta.
Garcia exited Friday's 6-2 loss due to a sore right knee before returning to the starting nine Saturday and going 1-for-4 with a double in a 8-3 loss. Per Spencer Nusbaum of The Athletic, the Nationals haven't indicated that Garcia has dealt with any setback with his knee, and the 26-year-old will be available off the bench Sunday. With that in mind, Garcia is presumably just being held out of the starting nine as a precaution since his name has popped up in trade rumors as Monday's deadline approaches. Andres Chaparro will pick up the start at first base Sunday and will bat ninth.

Garcia went 0-for-3 with a strikeout before his knee forced him out of the game in the seventh inning. The severity of his injury remains unknown, but Andres Chaparro could be in line for an extra start or two at first base if Garcia needs to sit.

Garcia came a single short of hitting for the cycle Thursday. Much of the focus has deservedly been on All-Stars James Wood and CJ Abrams in Washington's high-octane offense, but Garcia is putting together an outstanding campaign in his own right. The 26-year-old has a .976 OPS over 72 games since the beginning of May, now slashing .286/.316/.566 with 23 homers, 19 doubles and 76 RBI across 367 plate appearances for the season. Among qualified batters, Garcia is trailing only Yordan Alvarez and Ben Rice in slugging percentage.
