  • Rangers' Carter Baumler: Moves to 60-day IL

The Rangers transferred Baumler (ribs) to the 60-day injured list Saturday. Baumler landed on the injured list in early April with a right intercostal strain. He was cleared to begin a rehab assignment later in the month but has been shut down since April 28 due to a setback in his recovery. His move to the 60-day IL will keep him sidelined through June 4, though it's unclear how far away he is from returning. Blaine Crim was claimed off waivers from the Rockies in a corresponding move.

  • Rangers' Carter Baumler: Facing hitters

Baumler (ribs) began throwing live batting practice Monday, Jeff Wilson of AllDLLS.com reports. Baumler has been on the injured list since April 5 due to a right intercostal strain, but he appears to be nearing the final stretch of his recovery. The Rangers haven't announced a firm timeline for his return, but they have confirmed he will require a few rehab outings in the minors before returning from the IL.

  • Rangers' Carter Baumler: Moved to IL with intercostal strain

The Rangers placed Baumler on the 15-day injured list Sunday due to a right intercostal strain. Baumler had his best outing of the season Saturday versus Cincinnati, striking out one batter in one perfect inning, but he apparently was injured in the process. The right-hander will consequently need to miss at least a couple weeks. Texas recalled reliever Luis Curvelo from Triple-A Round Rock to take Baumler's place in the bullpen.

  • Rangers' Carter Baumler: Dealt to Texas

The Pirates selected Baumler with the fifth pick in the Rule 5 Draft on Wednesday and traded him to the Rangers, per Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News. Baumler received a seven-figure bonus from the Orioles out of high school in 2020 but he has dealt with significant shoulder issues over the years. The 6-foot-2 righty touched 98 mph in 2025 while logging a 2.04 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 46 strikeouts in 39.2 innings as a reliever, primarily at High-A. The Rangers will likely attempt to use Baumler as a low-leverage reliever in 2026 before potentially sending him back to the minors in 2027.

  • Orioles' Carter Baumler: Underwent offseason surgery

Baumler will open the season on the 60-day injured list after undergoing surgery on his right shoulder in the offseason, Steve Melewski of MASNSports.com reports. Baumler was shut down last July due to shoulder inflammation, and he's had an operation to address it. He made his debut in affiliated ball last season, posting a 1.54 ERA and 20:7 K:BB across 11.2 innings for Single-A Delmarva. It is unclear if he will be able to pitch in 2023.

  • Orioles' Carter Baumler: Cleared for instructional ball

Baumler (elbow) reported to Sarasota, Fla. on Monday to participate in the Orioles' fall instructional league camp, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. The Orioles will likely be careful with Baumler's usage in instructional ball, but his inclusion for the fall camp suggests he's just about fully recovered from the Tommy John procedure he underwent last October. The 2020 fifth-round pick is still looking to make his professional debut, after the 2020 minor-league campaign was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic before he sustained the elbow injury last fall.
