  • Pirates' Jared Jones: Exits after taking liner to elbow

Jones was lifted from his start Sunday against the Rockies after being struck in the right elbow by an 87.9-mph line drive off the bat of TJ Rumfield, Colin Beazley of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

The Pirates were able to record an inning-ending out on the play in question, resulting in Jones finishing his day with three strikeouts and one run allowed on one hit and two walks across three frames. Jones was making his fifth start of the season for Pittsburgh on Sunday after completing his recovery from May 2025 UCL repair surgery on his right elbow. While it's less than ideal that the same elbow was struck by a comebacker, Jones should be able to steer clear of an extended absence so long as he was able to avoid a fracture. He's currently being evaluated by the Pirates' medical staff, and the team should have an update on his status later Sunday.

  • Pirates' Jared Jones: Initial images clean

Jones (elbow) underwent imaging, which came back negative, Sunday in Colorado.

Jones was struck in the right elbow by a line drive and exited Sunday's contest against the Rockies following the conclusion of the third inning. The team had the 24-year-old undergo initial imaging in Colorado, and at the moment, it appears as if he has avoided a significant injury. Jones is expected to be reexamined by the medical staff in Pittsburgh on Monday, and he can be considered day-to-day for the time being.

  • Pirates' Jared Jones: Allows two homers in first loss

Jones (1-1) took the loss Monday, allowing five runs on eight hits and a walk over four innings against the Athletics. He struck out four.

Jones was hampered by the long ball, as he surrendered two-run homers to Nick Kurtz and Jeff McNeil in the second and fourth innings, respectively. The early returns for Jones since making his season debut May 29 have been lackluster, though a slow start from the 24-year-old is hardly surprising given that he's coming off missing all of 2025 due to right elbow surgery. The right-hander will carry a 6.23 ERA, 1.62 WHIP and 18:6 K:BB across 17.1 innings (four starts) into his next outing, tentatively scheduled for Sunday on the road against the Rockies.

  • Pirates' Jared Jones: Fans four in no-decision

Jones took a no-decision Wednesday against the Dodgers, allowing two runs on three hits and one walk in four innings. He struck out four.

After missing just over a year due to elbow surgery, Jones continues to work with a pitch count during the early stages of his campaign. The 24-year-old right-hander has yet to reach the 80-pitch marker, but he's given up just a pair of runs across his past two outings while also keeping the ball in the park. Jones is set to take a 4.73 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 14:5 K:BB over 13.1 innings into a tough road assignment against the Athletics his next time out.

  • Pirates' Jared Jones: Rebounds with five scoreless frames

Jones (1-0) earned the win over Houston on Thursday, allowing four hits and issuing two walks while striking out four batters over five shutout innings.

Jones was roughed up a bit in his season debut May 29, allowing five runs over 4.1 innings against Minnesota. The right-hander fared much better Thursday, limiting the Astros to four hits (two doubles and two singles) while going just deep enough to qualify for the victory. Jones threw 74 pitches after tossing 77 in his previous outing, so he seems to be having his workload managed carefully as he eases back into action following an extended absence due to the UCL surgery he underwent in May of 2025. Jones will look to build upon this performance moving forward, though he's lined up for a tough matchup at home against the Dodgers his next time out.

  • Pirates' Jared Jones: Not sharp in return from IL

Jones didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 6-5 win over the Twins, coughing up five runs on seven hits and two walks over 4.1 innings. He struck out six.

Making his first big-league start since undergoing Tommy John surgery in May of last year, Jones tossed 53 of 77 pitches for strikes but got hit hard when he was in the strike zone, serving up long balls to Kody Clemens in the first inning and Trevor Larnach in the third. The right-hander was headed for the loss until Bryan Reynolds walked it off with a homer of his own in the bottom of the ninth. Jones has plenty of upside, but he'll be a risky fantasy option while he shakes off the rust and works to regain his pre-injury form. He lines up to make his next start on the road next week in Houston.

  • Pirates' Jared Jones: Activated ahead of season debut

The Pirates activated Jones (elbow) from the 60-day injured list Friday.

Jones is set to make his season debut for the Pirates on Friday just over one year after undergoing UCL surgery on his right elbow. The 24-year-old pitched well in five rehab starts, logging a 2.89 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 24:6 K:BB across 18.2 innings. Jones threw 76 pitches in his last outing, so he should be capable of a workload of 85-90 pitches versus Minnesota.

  • Pirates' Jared Jones: Set for season debut Friday

Pirates manager Don Kelly said Thursday that Jones (elbow) will return from the 60-day injured list and start Friday's game against the Twins at PNC Park, Jason Mackey of MLB.com reports.

Jones will be making his first appearance at the big-league level since he underwent UCL surgery last May. The right-hander looked sharp in five rehab starts, logging a 2.89 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 24:6 K:BB across 18.2 innings. He went 4.1 frames and threw 76 pitches in his most recent outing with Triple-A Indianapolis last weekend, so while Jones should be able to reach five innings Friday if he pitches efficiently, he shouldn't be expected to work much longer than that. Expect the Pirates to manage Jones' workload after he missed all of the 2025 campaign.

  • Pirates' Jared Jones: Closing in on season debut

General manager Ben Cherington said Sunday that Jones (elbow) will return to Pittsburgh and throw a bullpen session Tuesday before the Pirates determine whether he'll return from the 60-day injured list during the upcoming week, Colin Beazley of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

After making his previous two rehab starts at Double-A Altoona, Jones shifted his minor-league assignment to Triple-A Indianapolis on Saturday, when he tossed 76 pitches (47 strikes) while allowing three runs on two hits and three walks with six strikeouts across 4.1 innings. Jones missed all of last season due to a UCL injury in his right elbow that required surgery in May, but he's looked strong across his five rehab starts, logging a 2.89 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 24:6 K:BB across 18.2 innings. If Jones checks out fine following Tuesday's side session, he could be activated from the IL as soon as Thursday.

  • Pirates' Jared Jones: Fifth rehab start on tap

Jones (elbow) will head to Triple-A Indianapolis on Saturday to make the fifth start of his rehab assignment, Colin Beazley of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

After making his last two appearances with Double-A Altoona, Jones will move back to Indianapolis this weekend for what the Pirates are hoping is the final rehab outing he'll require before coming off the 60-day injured list. The 24-year-old threw 67 pitches over 4.1 innings during his most recent outing for Altoona on Sunday and should continue building up his workload during his upcoming start with Indianapolis. Assuming the Pirates are comfortable with how Jones' surgically repaired elbow responds following Saturday's start, he could be cleared to make his 2026 debut with the big club as soon as May 28 versus the Cubs or May 29 versus the Twins, both of which would come in Pittsburgh.

  • Pirates' Jared Jones: Turns in strong start with Altoona

Jones (elbow) threw four scoreless innings, allowing three hits and no walks while striking out four in a rehab appearance with Double-A Altoona on Tuesday, per MLB.com.

This marked Jones' third rehab start and was his longest outing. However, his pitch count remained stable, as he threw 52 total pitches, 36 of which went for strikes. Jones will likely make a few more rehab appearances; so far, he's allowed only one earned run across 10 innings while maintaining an 11:1 K:BB.

  • Pirates' Jared Jones: Set for third start with Double-A

Jones (elbow) will make a third start with Double-A Altoona on Tuesday, Danny Demilio of PittsburghBaseballNow.com reports.

Jones will continue his minor-league rehab assignment, looking to build off the six innings of one-run ball that he's produced while striking out seven batters over his first two outings with Altoona. The 24-year-old is eligible to be activated from the 60-day injured list May 25, and it's possible that Tuesday will be his final start with the Double-A squad before taking his rehab to the Triple-A level.

  • Pirates' Jared Jones: Makes second rehab outing

Jones (elbow) allowed one earned run on five hits and one walk while striking out two across three innings in a rehab outing with Triple-A Indianapolis on Wednesday.

Jones threw 35 of his 54 pitches for strikes while sitting at 98.8 miles per hour with his fastball. The right-hander, who is working his way back from UCL surgery, is set to make at least a few more starts in the minors before being activated from the 60-day injured list, but the final steps of his recovery look to be on track.
