Top Dietrich Enns News

  • Orioles' Dietrich Enns: Locks down first save

Enns earned the save in Thursday's 5-3 win over the Mariners, allowing a run on two hits and a walk in the ninth inning.

Enns' first save since 2021 didn't come easy -- after giving up back-to-back singles to open the frame, the left-hander managed to hold Seattle to just one run to close out the Orioles' victory. Enns has pitched well overall since joining Baltimore at the trade deadline, allowing two runs while striking out 12 over 6.1 innings to put his name in the late-inning mix.

  • Orioles' Dietrich Enns: Dealt to Baltimore

Enns was traded from the Tigers to the Rays in exchange for cash considerations Thursday.

Enns was designated for assignment earlier in the day after the Tigers acquired Codi Heuer. However, he now looks likely to immediately contribute to Baltimore's bullpen. He's maintained a 5.60 ERA and 1.53 WHIP across 17.2 innings in the majors this season.

  • Tigers' Dietrich Enns: Loses 40-man roster spot

The Tigers designated Enns for assignment Thursday.

The transaction will free up a spot on the 40-man roster for Codi Heuer, who was acquired via trade. Enns has posted a 5.60 ERA and 15:4 K:BB over 17.2 innings with the Tigers this season, making two starts and five relief appearances.

  • Tigers' Dietrich Enns: Continues to pitch well in relief

Enns tossed 2.2 scoreless innings of relief in Monday's 3-0 loss to the Pirates. He allowed three hits and struck out three.

Enns has now made three appearances out of Detroit's bullpen, and he's yet to allow any runs across seven innings of work. The lefty didn't fare as well in two starts for the Tigers, but he could be settling in as an effective long reliever. While the improved performance is promising, Enns is in a fairly low-leverage role with limited fantasy upside at the moment, though he could take on more prominent work if he continues to pitch well.

  • Tigers' Dietrich Enns: Sharper in first relief appearance

Enns tossed three scoreless innings of relief in Wednesday's 7-3 loss to the Rays. He allowed four hits and struck out two.

Enns made his last outing as a starter on July 3, when he allowed eight runs (seven earned) across four innings. Detroit manager A.J. Hinch announced a few days later that the lefty would shift to the bullpen, and Wednesday's appearance was his first in that role. Enns worked exclusively as a starter for the Tigers and Triple-A Toledo prior to Wednesday, so he should at least be able to give the team some length as a reliever, and he was effective in his first stint.

  • Tigers' Dietrich Enns: Moves to bullpen

Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said prior to Sunday's 7-2 win over the Guardians that Enns will make his next appearance out of the bullpen, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Enns limited the Athletics to one hit over five shutout innings in his first start with the Tigers on June 26, but he ended up losing his spot in the rotation after he was blown up for eight runs (seven earned) over four innings in his second start Thursday in Washington. Hinch has yet to announce a replacement in the rotation for Enns, but Keider Montero is expected to be called up from Triple-A Toledo on Monday and will either start or serve as a bulk reliever in Detroit's series opener versus the Rays, per Chris McCosky of The Detroit News. Enns will be available in relief Monday, but the Tigers aren't heading into the game with the plan of having him cover multiple innings.

  • Tigers' Dietrich Enns: Hit hard vs. Nats

Enns (1-1) took the loss Thursday against the Nationals, allowing eight runs (seven earned) on eight hits and two walks over four innings. He struck out three.

After turning in five shutout innings against the A's in his first start this year, it was a different story for Enns his second time out. The Nats jumped on the left-hander for five runs in the first inning, capped by a three-run Paul DeJong homer. With Reese Olson (finger) slated to rejoin the Tigers' rotation Friday, Enns likely won't stick in the rotation.

  • Tigers' Dietrich Enns: Another start on tap

Enns is scheduled to start Thursday's game against the Nationals in Washington, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

The left-hander made his first MLB appearance since 2021 last Thursday against the Athletics in what was expected to be a spot start, but he'll receive another turn through the rotation after allowing just one hit across five scoreless frames. Another strong performance could keep Enns in the rotation on a longer-term basis, even with Reese Olson (finger) potentially making his return from the injured list this week.

  • Tigers' Dietrich Enns: Blanks A's in Tigers debut

Enns (1-0) earned the win Thursday over the A's, allowing just one hit and two walks over five scoreless innings. He struck out four.

Detroit couldn't have asked for more from Enns, who was making his first major-league appearance since 2021 and his first start since 2017. Despite his stellar effort, the 34-year-old Enns is expected to head back to Triple-A Toledo, with Reese Olson (finger) nearing a return from the IL. Enns has posted a 2.89 ERA in 14 starts (62.1 innings) in Triple-A this year.

  • Tigers' Dietrich Enns: Contract selected ahead of start

The Tigers selected Enns' contract from Triple-A Toledo on Thursday, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Enns will draw the start in Thursday's contest against the Athletics in what will be his first appearance in the majors since 2021 and first start in the big leagues since 2017. The 34-year-old earned an opportunity after collecting a 2.89 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 71:15 K:BB across 62.1 innings (14 starts) with Toledo. With Reese Olson (finger) expected back from the injured list next week, Enns could be in line for just one start with the Tigers.

  • Tigers' Dietrich Enns: MLB promotion on tap

Enns is expected to be called up from Triple-A Toledo to start Thursday's game against the Athletics, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Enns joined Detroit on a minor-league deal in December and will get a look with the big club after posting a 2.89 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 71:15 K:BB across 62.1 innings (14 starts) with Toledo. The left-hander last appeared in the majors in 2021 with the Rays and delivered a 2.82 ERA in nine bullpen appearances before he spent the subsequent three seasons pitching overseas. Detroit is expected to get Reese Olson (finger) back from the injured list next week, so Enns may be in store for just one turn through the rotation before heading back to Triple-A.

  • Tigers' Dietrich Enns: MiLB deal with Detroit

The Tigers signed Enns to a minor-league contract on Dec. 16.

Enns reported the news himself on his Instagram account. The left-hander spent the 2022 to 2023 seasons in Japan with the Saitama Seibu Lions and in 2024 in Korea with the LG Twins. He last saw action in the majors in 2021 with the Rays, posting a 2.82 ERA in nine relief appearances.

  • Dietrich Enns: Bound for Asia

The Rays will place Enns on waivers Wednesday with the aim of granting him his unconditional release to pursue playing opportunities in Asia, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Enns will have to clear waivers before he's officially granted his release Friday, but the expectation is that he'll go unclaimed since he seemingly already has an agreement in place with a team in Korea, Japan or Taiwan. The 30-year-old lefty likely would have been worthy of a 40-man roster spot with the Rays or another organization after submitting a 2.82 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 25:6 K:BB across 22.1 innings with Tampa Bay this past season, but since he's not arbitration eligible until 2024 and not scheduled to hit free agency until 2027, Enns will be able to secure a more lucrative deal by heading overseas for his prime earnings years.

  • Rays' Dietrich Enns: Sent to Triple-A

Enns was optioned to Triple-A Durham on Saturday, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports

He logged a 0.67 ERA, 0.60 WHIP, two wins and two saves in 13.1 innings across five September appearances, but after pitching two innings Friday, the Rays will summon a fresh arm (Josh Fleming) in his place.

  • Rays' Dietrich Enns: Needs just one out for save

Enns struck out the only batter he faced to record his second save of the year Monday in a 6-4 win over the Blue Jays.

The Rays entered the ninth sitting on a 6-2 lead, but things quickly changed after David Robertson allowed a two-run homer to Marcus Semien to make it 6-4. Robertson was eventually replaced by JT Chargois who couldn't escape the inning either after loading the bases. Enns was the next one to be called upon and was able to clean up the mess by striking out Breyvic Valera to end the game. Enns has been fantastic this month with a 0.79 ERA, 0,71 WHIP and 13:1 K:BB to go along with two wins and two saves over four appearances. The Rays still don't have an outright closer, so it wouldn't be surprising to see Enns get at least another save before the regular season ends.

  • Rays' Dietrich Enns: Continues recent success in win

Enns (2-0) got the win in Thursday's 5-2 victory over Detroit, allowing one run on three hits and a walk with three strikeouts in four innings.

Manager Kevin Cash tabbed Enns to follow opener Louis Head and the 30-year-old delivered the quality performance Tampa Bay was banking on. The only run he surrendered came on a Niko Goodrum solo shot in the fifth, while two Tigers were picked off the bases while the lefty was on the hill. Enns has now permitted just one run in 11 September innings across three appearances while striking out 12 batters.

  • Rays' Dietrich Enns: Following opener Thursday

Enns will pitch behind opener Louis Head against the Tigers on Thursday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Manager Kevin Cash previously said Enns would start Thursday's contest, but the left-hander will instead work as the primary pitcher. The 30-year-old covered four frames in long relief Saturday and should be able to pitch a bit deeper in Thursday's contest.

  • Rays' Dietrich Enns: Entering rotation

Rays manager Kevin Cash said Enns will start Thursday's game against the Tigers in Tampa Bay, radio broadcaster Steve Carney reports.

Enns will slot into the rotation as a replacement for Chris Archer (hip), who was placed on the 10-day injured list Sunday. After Archer exited his start Saturday against the Tigers early with the injury, Enns came on in long relief and struck out six over four perfect innings. He could tack on another inning or two to his workload while stepping into a starting role in a rematch with the same Tigers squad.

... See More ... See Less
  • Rays' Dietrich Enns: Perfect in relief win

Enns (1-0) picked up the win in Saturday's 7-2 victory over the Tigers, tossing four perfect innings of relief while striking out six.

Chris Archer got the start but left after four innings due to a hip issue, and Enns entered the game to replace him with the Rays already ahead 5-1. The southpaw gave Detroit no opportunity to mount a comeback, putting together the best outing of his brief big-league career to earn his first MLB win. Enns has a 3.38 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 19:5 K:BB through 16 innings for Tampa Bay this season while bouncing between the majors and Triple-A, and he'd be one of the top candidates to fill Archer's rotation spot or work as a primary pitcher behind an opener if the right-hander misses his next turn.

  • Rays' Dietrich Enns: Returns to majors

Enns was recalled from Triple-A Durham on Friday, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports.

The lefty has pitched to a 4.50 ERA and 1.58 WHIP in 12 innings with the Rays this season. Enns figures to once again occupy a long relief role during this latest stint with the big-league club.
