Rays' Austin Slater: DFA'd by Tampa Bay
The Rays designated Slater for assignment Friday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
The veteran outfielder joined Tampa Bay on a minor-league deal in late May and was added to the big-league roster June 8. Slater went 6-for-22 with three walks, two doubles, three steals, an RBI and two runs in seven games for the Rays, but he'll be the odd man out after the club activated Jonny DeLuca (hamstring) from the injured list. Slater has already seen action with three MLB clubs in 2026 and could return to free agency if he passes through waivers unclaimed.

Rays' Austin Slater: Logs third steal
Slater went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Tuesday's 1-0 loss to the Dodgers.
Slater has gone 6-for-22 (.273) with two doubles, two steals and one RBI over six games since he joined the Rays' big-league roster June 8. He was designated for assignment by the Mets in mid-May and elected free agency before signing with the Rays on May 26. He's played with three teams this season, batting .231 with a .578 OPS, three steals, three RBI, three doubles, six runs scored and no home runs over 73 plate appearances between the Rays, Mets and Marlins. Slater will likely fill a short-side platoon role in the outfield as long as he's with Tampa Bay.

Rays' Austin Slater: Officially added to roster
The Rays selected Slater's contract from Triple-A Durham on Monday.
The Rays are scheduled to face all lefty starting pitchers during their three-game set versus the Red Sox, so the right-handed-hitting Slater should be busy. He's sporting an underwhelming .209/.286/.233 batting line through 49 plate appearances in the majors this season.

Rays' Austin Slater: Heading to big leagues
The Rays plan to call up Slater from Triple-A Durham, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Signed to a minor-league contract in late May, Slater has a 1.160 OPS in six games with Durham. The Rays are slated to face three left-handers in their early-week series versus the Red Sox, so the right-handed-hitting Slater should get some reps in the outfield. Slater has slashed just .209/.286/.233 through 49 plate appearances in the majors this season.

Rays' Austin Slater: Inks minors deal with Rays
Slater signed a minor-league contract with the Rays on Tuesday, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.
Slater elected free agency Sunday after being DFA'd by the Mets, and he'll now have a chance to redeem himself in the Rays organization. The 33-year-old outfielder has slashed just .209/.286/.233 through 49 plate appearances in the majors this season, so he will likely need to show improvement at Triple-A Durham before the Rays give him another look in the big leagues.

Austin Slater: Elects free agency
Slater elected to become a free agent Sunday.
Slater was removed from the Mets' 40-man roster previously and has decided to hit the free-agent market rather than accept an outright assignment. The veteran outfielder is most-known for his ability to hit left-handed pitching, but the right-handed-swinging Slated is just 7-for-40 (.175) versus southpaws in 2026.

Mets' Austin Slater: Dropped from 40-man roster
The Mets designated Slater for assignment Tuesday.
The transaction frees a spot on the 26-man active roster and 40-man roster for left-hander Anderson Severino, whose contract was selected from Triple-A Syracuse. Slater was released by the Tigers during spring training and has now been designated for assignment twice in less than a month. He'll likely become a free agent after clearing waivers. Slater has slashed .209/.286/.233 across 49 plate appearances between stops with the Marlins and Mets this season.

Mets' Austin Slater: Headed to Big Apple
Slater and the Mets agreed on a contract Sunday, Chelsea Janes of SNY.tv reports.
Slater will head to the Big Apple after being designated for assignment by the Marlins on Wednesday. The outfielder cleared waivers and electing free agency Sunday, and he has now quickly found a new home. Slater struggled to a .174 average with an RBI, a run scored and a stolen base over 23 at-bats with Miami this season, but he owns a .777 career OPS versus left-handed pitchers, and he'll likely get a shot to start against southpaws with New York. Tommy Pham was designated for assignment by the Mets on Sunday, freeing up a spot on both the 40-man roster and major-league squad for Slater.

Austin Slater: Hits free agency
Slater cleared waivers and elected for free agency Sunday, Craig Mish of FanDuel Sports Network Florida reports.
The veteran outfielder was designated for assignment by Miami on Wednesday and will hit the open market rather than accepting an outright assignment to Triple-A. Slater played 12 games this season before being cut loose and had a .174/.286/.174 slash line in 28 plate appearances.

Marlins' Austin Slater: DFA'd by Miami
The Marlins designated Slater for assignment Wednesday, Craig Mish of FanDuel Sports Network Florida reports.
Slater saw sparse playing time for Miami this season and went 4-for-23 (.174) with one steal, one RBI and a 4:9 BB:K. With no minor-league options left, the Marlins have elected to let go of the 33-year-old outfielder in order to open up a spot on the roster for Esteury Ruiz (oblique), who is set to return from the injured list, per Kevin Barral of FishonFirst.com. Slater will go on waivers and could garner interest from a team looking to add depth in the outfield.

Marlins' Austin Slater: On base three times in loss
Slater went 2-for-3 with a walk in Sunday's loss to the Tigers.
Getting the start in right field and batting leadoff against ace left-hander Tarik Skubal, Slater did his job by getting on base and even broke up Skubal's no-hit bid in the sixth inning with a bloop into center field, but the rest of the Marlins' lineup had much less success on the day. However, Slater hasn't exactly thrived in his short-side platoon role this season, batting just .190 (4-for-21) in nine games with zero extra-base hits and a 2:8 BB:K.

Marlins' Austin Slater: Hitting bench with righty starting
Slater out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Reds.
Owen Caissie will slot back into right field in place of Slater, who had started each of the last four games while going 2-for-11 with a walk, a stolen base and a run scored. All six of Slater's starts this season have come against left-handed pitching, and the veteran outfielder appears likely to remain a strict short-side platoon player moving forward.

Marlins' Austin Slater: Batting leadoff in opener
Slater will start in right field and bat leadoff in Friday's opener versus the Rockies.
Slater was just signed earlier this week and will immediately be thrown into the leadoff spot as the Marlins take on lefty Kyle Freeland. Slater will serve in a short-side platoon role for Miami.

Marlins' Austin Slater: Reaches deal with Marlins
Slater agreed to a one-year, major-league contract with the Marlins on Tuesday, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.
Slater parted ways with the Tigers over the weekend after posting an .856 OPS in 15 spring training games. The 33-year-old will provide the Marlins with some veteran outfield depth in the wake of Kyle Stowers' (hamstring) and Esteury Ruiz's (oblique) injuries. Slater has excelled against left-handed pitching throughout his nine-year MLB career, so he'll likely step into a short-side platoon role.

Austin Slater: Released by Detroit
The Tigers granted Slater his release Saturday, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.
As a non-roster invitee, Slater had the right to request his release if he wasn't added to the roster by Saturday. His chances of being included on the Opening Day squad seemed slim despite him posting an .856 OPS in 36 Grapefruit League plate appearances, so he will now explore his options on the open market.

Tigers' Austin Slater: Hits first spring home run
Slater went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Sunday's Grapefruit League game against the Orioles.
Slater connected in the third inning for his first home run of the spring slate. The 33-year-old joined the Tigers earlier this month on a minor-league contract with a chance to compete for an Opening Day roster spot during camp. Slater had an OPS under .650 each of the last two seasons with a batting average under .220, so he doesn't figure to offer a ton of offense. However, he is a versatile defender who could carve out a utility role in Detroit if he strings together more good performances in spring training.

Tigers' Austin Slater: Joins Detroit on MiLB deal
Slater agreed to a minor-league contract with the Tigers on Tuesday that includes an invite to big-league spring training, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.
Slater split the 2025 campaign between the White Sox and Yankees, and he posted a .216/.270/.372 slash line with five homers in 160 plate appearances during the regular season. The 33-year-old best fits as a short-side platoon player in the outfield, and he could carve out that role in a Detroit outfield that's heavy on left-handed bats.

The Yankees activated Slater (hamstring) from the 10-day injured list Friday.
Slater strained his left hamstring shortly after being acquired at the trade deadline but is ready to roll following a brief rehab assignment. He will see some playing time against left-handed pitching.
