Tyler Nevin: Inks deal with Japanese team
Nevin agreed to a contract Wednesday with the Seibu Lions of Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball, Sports Hochi reports.
Nevin saw his most extensive action at the big-league level in 2024 with the Athletics, slashing .204/.288/.331 with seven home runs over 278 plate appearances. He elected free agency after being removed from the Athletics' 40-man roster in November and will now try his luck overseas.

Athletics' Tyler Nevin: Removed from 40-man roster
The Athletics outrighted Nevin to Triple-A Las Vegas on Friday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
It's not the first time Nevin has been outrighted, so he can elect free agency if he wants. The 27-year-old has a career .204/.299/.315 slash line over parts of four major-league seasons.

Athletics' Tyler Nevin: Drives in two Sunday
Nevin went 1-for-3 with a two-run double in a loss to the Mariners on Sunday.
Drawing his second consecutive start, Nevin finally put the Athletics' first two runs of the day on the board with his seventh-inning two-bagger, which plated Seth Brown and Tyler Soderstrom. The veteran finished the season with hits in three straight games, but after a hot start that saw him hit .313 over his first 26 contests, Nevin produced an anemic .148/.247/.253 slash line across 186 plate appearances (62 games) the rest of the way at the big-league level.

Athletics' Tyler Nevin: Smacks seventh homer
Nevin went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday's 6-3 loss to the Astros.
Nevin gave the A's some life in the ninth inning with an opposite-field blast off Josh Hader, cutting Houston's lead to 6-3. It's Nevin's first home run since July 6 -- he'd gone just 9-for-62 (.145) with a .419 OPS in 26 games coming into Thursday. The 27-year-old Nevin is slashing .196/.287/.329 through 251 plate appearances this season with seven homers, 18 RBI and 20 runs scored while being limited to the occasional start against left-handed pitching.

Athletics' Tyler Nevin: Rare start in Saturday's loss
Nevin started at first base in a loss to the Rangers on Saturday and went 0-for-3.
Nevin was in the starting lineup for the first time in a week and only the ninth time in August. The journeyman remained in a funk at the plate with his hitless effort, as he's now 2-for-17 in his last six appearances overall. Nevin offers plenty of defensive versatility with his ability to play both the corner infield and outfield spots, but he figures to continue seeing only intermittent playing time down the stretch.
