Top Trent Grisham News

  • Yankees' Trent Grisham: Idle Friday

Grisham is not in the starting lineup for Friday's game against San Francisco.

Grisham will dodge a same-handed matchup with Robbie Ray on Friday, allowing for Cody Bellinger to slide to center field and Randal Grichuk to patrol left field. Grisham went 1-for-5 with a two-RBI triple in the Yankees' season opener Wednesday.

  • Yankees' Trent Grisham: Struggling in spring play

Grisham is slashing .143/.226/.179 with no homers, three RBI, one stolen base and a 3:8 BB:K through 11 Grapefruit League games.

When Grisham accepted the Yankees' $22.025 million qualifying offer in November, it signaled that he'd be part of the team's starting outfield for 2026. While that remains the likely scenario, Grisham's poor spring highlights the fact that 23-year-old phenom Jasson Dominguez has exploded with a .371/.395/.686 slash line in exhibition play (along with three homers and three thefts) but doesn't have a path to everyday playing time. Given his contract, Grisham will probably get the opportunity to prove that last year's career-best campaign wasn't a fluke, but if he starts the season slowly, he could have Dominguez breathing down his neck.

  • Yankees' Trent Grisham: Back with NYY on QO

Grish accepted the one-year, $22.025 million qualifying offer from the Yankees on Tuesday, Jorge Castillo of ESPN.com reports.

The 29-year-old had a breakout 2025 with 34 homers and an .812 OPS in 143 regular-season games, and it's not a major surprise he accepted the qualifying offer given that he had a .651 OPS across the previous three seasons. Grisham should be back in center field for the Yankees in 2026, though it would be a bit surprising if he replicated the elite power production.

  • Trent Grisham: Given qualifying offer

The Yankees extended a one-year, $22.05 million qualifying offer to Grisham on Thursday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com

Grisham, off the heels of a breakout 2025 campaign, will now have to decide whether to accept the option or pursue a deal in free agency. The veteran outfielder hit 34 homers during the regular season after never having previously hit more than 17 in a year, while his OPS jumped to .812 after not logging a figure higher than .675 in the three prior seasons. Thursday's move means the Yankees will receive draft compensation if the left-handed outfielder leaves in free agency.
