Greg Allen: Becomes free agent
Allen elected to become a free agent Tuesday, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports.
Allen passed through waivers unclaimed after being removed from the Orioles' 40-man roster, and he's opted for free agency rather than accepting an outright assignment to the minors. The veteran outfielder went hitless over 14 plate appearances during his brief time in Baltimore.

Orioles' Greg Allen: DFA'd by O's
The Orioles designated Allen for assignment Saturday.
Allen was signed by Baltimore on Aug. 8 and went hitless in 14 at-bats over seven games with the team. He'll yield his spot on the 26-man and 40-man rosters to make room for highly-regarded outfield prospect Dylan Beavers. Assuming Allen goes unclaimed on waivers, he'll likely remain in the Orioles organization.

Orioles' Greg Allen: Collecting third straight start
Allen will start in left field and bat eighth in Sunday's game against the Athletics.
After going 0-for-6 while making starts in center field in the first two contests of the series, Allen will slide over to left Sunday while Dylan Carlson rests and Jordyn Adams enters the lineup in center. Allen looks set to be a near-everyday player in the short term while Colton Cowser (concussion) and Tyler O'Neill (wrist) are both on the injured list, but top prospect Dylan Beavers could enter the equation later this month.

Orioles' Greg Allen: Latches on with O's
The Orioles signed Allen to a major-league contract Friday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.
Allen was released by the Cubs earlier in August, but he'll get a fresh start and a chance to see his first MLB action since 2023. The 32-year-old switch hitter slashed .271/.358/.438 with six homers and 12 steals in 234 plate appearances with Triple-A Iowa this season. He'll likely serve as a depth piece rather than a starting lineup regular.

Cubs' Greg Allen: Off to scorching start
Allen went 2-for-2 with three RBI and a run scored in Tuesday's Cactus League game against the Padres, and he is batting .533 this spring.
Allen has gone 8-for-15 in the early going with a home run, a stolen base, six RBI and six runs scored. The veteran outfielder joined the Cubs on a minor-league contract last month and will presumably serve as organizational depth during the season, though he's making his case for an MLB role early on.

Cubs' Greg Allen: Goes to Northsiders on NRI pact
The Cubs signed Allen to a minor-league contract Friday that includes an invitation to spring training, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Allen, who turns 32 in March, spent most of the 2024 season at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in the Yankees organization, producing a .698 OPS in 58 contests. He'll give the Cubs a veteran capable of playing all three outfield spots and is likely to begin the season at Triple-A Iowa.

Yankees' Greg Allen: Lands on 7-day IL
Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre placed Allen on its 7-day injured list Sunday with an unspecified injury, Conor Foley of YES Network reports.
The 31-year-old Allen has fared well with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this season, posting an .819 OPS in 36 games to date, but he's not on the Yankees' 40-man roster. His injury will put any chance for a call-up on pause for the time being.

The Yankees reassigned Allen to minor-league camp Monday, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
Allen went 5-for-26 at the plate in 16 Grapefruit League games. The veteran outfielder should bounce around to all three outfield spots while at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Yankees' Greg Allen: Lands NRI from Yankees
Allen signed a minor-league contract with the Yankees on Tuesday that includes an invitation to spring training, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.
Allen spent most of the 2023 season bouncing around in the minors but did see a little action at the major-league level with the Yankees, going 5-for-23 with a home run. The speedy 30-year-old will compete for a reserve outfielder role but will likely begin the 2024 campaign at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Milwaukee signed Allen to a minor-league contract Thursday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
Allen elected to become a free agent last Thursday after the Yankees pushed him off their 40-man roster. The 30-year-old is a career .231/.300/.340 hitter in 304 major-league games and will function as organizational outfield depth for the Brewers down the stretch. He's been sent to Triple-A Nashville.

Greg Allen: Elects free agency
Allen elected to become a free agent Thursday.
After Allen was reinstated from the injured list July 23, he received just 11 plate appearances prior to being DFA'd by the Yankees on Tuesday. He'll now presumably look to join another organization with a clearer path to major-league playing time, though he may have to settle for a minor-league deal.

This move clears out a 40-man roster spot for outfield prospect Everson Pereira, who is up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and making his MLB debut Tuesday against the Nationals. Yankees' Greg Allen: Makes return from IL
The Yankees reinstated Allen (hip) from the 10-day injured list Sunday.
New York optioned utility man Oswaldo Cabrera to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre following Saturday's win over the Royals to clear a spot on the 26-man active roster for Allen. The 30-year-old outfielder is back with the Yankees for the first time since early June after missing around six weeks with a right hip flexor strain. He recently wrapped up a productive six-game rehab stint at Triple-A in which he slashed .316/.409/.474, and he could end up getting a look as a short-side platoon option in the outfield now that he's healthy again.
