Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Thursday that Yarbrough (oblique) will make at least one more rehab start, Max Goodman of NJ.com reports.
He's made two rehab starts thus far, with the last one coming with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Wednesday, when he allowed two runs while striking out three over 3.1 innings. Yarbrough got his pitch count up to 50 in that outing and will continue to build up his stamina in case he's needed in the Yankees' rotation. As things stand right now, however, he might be destined for long relief once he rejoins the big club.

Yarbrough landed on the injured list June 22 due to a right oblique strain. He was shut down from throwing until mid-July and has since been working his way back, advancing to bullpen sessions in late July and tossing his first live session this past Thursday. Manager Aaron Boone indicated Saturday that Yarbrough could throw in a minor-league game with Double-A Somerset on Sunday, but that it's more likely the lefty hurler will toss another live bullpen. Yarbrough landed on the injured list June 22 after being diagnosed with a right oblique strain. The left-hander was initially shut down from throwing before beginning a progression July 9. However, Yarbrough's ramp-up has been slow, as he hasn't yet advanced to tossing from a mound. With that in mind, the veteran hurler probably won't be ready to return to the Yankees until sometime in August.

Yarbrough had been penciled in to start Monday in Cincinnati, but Boone confirmed that Allan Winans will instead be called up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to take the mound for the Yankees. According to Max Goodman of NJ.com, Boone noted that Yarbrough's oblique injury is considered a low-grade strain, but the 33-year-old will still be shut down from throwing until his symptoms dissipate. With Marcus Stroman (knee) in the midst of a rehab assignment and seemingly on pace to beat Yarbrough back from the IL, the latter could end up shifting to the bullpen once he's reinstated.

After allowing a home run to Nolan Schanuel in the first inning, Yarbrough managed to hold the Angels scoreless until Jo Adell added another homer in the fifth to tie the game 2-2. Overall, it was a step in the right direction for Yarbrough, who had allowed nine runs in just 8.2 innings across his previous two outings. Yarbrough entered Saturday having tossed two straight quality starts and having posted a minuscule 1.76 ERA across his previous 30.2 innings, but he couldn't keep up that momentum against the Red Sox. The left-hander was doomed by a five-run Boston third inning. Yarbrough's season ERA jumped from 2.83 all the way up to 4.17 as a result of the poor outing, and the loss was his first of the campaign. He'll try to bounce back in his next start, which is tentatively slated to be a rematch against Boston, this time on the road.
