Urena was designated for assignment by the Twins on Friday, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.
Urena was tagged for six runs on seven hits and two walks across five innings in Thursday's loss to the Athletics. On the season, Urena has a 5.00 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 20:13 K:BB across 36 innings of work with four teams. The Twins booted Urena from the 40-man and 26-man rosters in order to make room for Mick Abel's expected promotion ahead of Saturday's start.

All six of the A's runs of Urena came in the second inning, when the right-hander allowed six consecutive men to reach base with two outs. Urena is slated to start Thursday's game against the Athletics at Target Field.
After tossing 5.2 scoreless innings in bulk relief in his most recent appearance last Friday against Detroit, Urena will pick up his third start as a member of the Twins in the series finale versus the Athletics. Urena has pitched in the majors with four different teams in 2025, logging a 4.06 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 17:11 K:BB in 31 innings across stops with the Mets, Blue Jays, Dodgers and Twins.

Twins' Jose Urena: Mops up in bulk relief
Urena struck out three and allowed two hits and one walk over 5.2 scoreless innings of relief in Friday's 7-0 loss to the Tigers.
With the Twins trailing 6-0 with one out in the third inning and runners on second and third, Urena was called upon in relief of opening pitcher Pierson Ohl to put out the fire. Urena induced a sacrifice fly to allow one run to score, and then got Colt Keith to line out to end the frame. Urena proceeded to retire 14 of the next 17 batters he faced to save the Minnesota bullpen and perhaps set him up for another starting opportunity or bulk-relief appearance next week while the Twins continue to lean on a three-man rotation at the moment and fill in the gaps as needed until two of Pablo Lopez (shoulder), Simeon Woods Richardson (illness) or David Festa (shoulder) return from the injured list. Urena had previously made a three-inning start in his most recent appearance last Sunday versus the Royals before shifting to the bullpen.

Jose Urena: Signing with Dodgers
The Dodgers are expected to sign Urena prior to Tuesday's game against the Mets, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.
The deal isn't official, but Heyman says Urena is on his way to Los Angeles and will be in uniform for the second game of a four-game series versus the Mets. Urena has allowed 10 runs with an 8:4 K:BB over 15.1 innings between the Blue Jays and Mets this season and will give the Dodgers some length in the bullpen.

The right-hander threw 35 pitches (24 strikes), which could leave him unavailable to provide any length out of the bullpen when Eric Lauer makes his next scheduled start Friday in Tampa Bay. Urena was making his second start with the Blue Jays after giving up two runs over 4.1 innings to the Angels on Tuesday. He made it just once through the Mariners' lineup Sunday, which looks like it may have been planned -- he threw 31 pitches (19 strikes) in this outing compared to 74 pitches Tuesday.
