Red Sox's Sonny Gray: Surrenders four runs Saturday
Gray allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits and one walk across four innings in Saturday's 6-5 loss to the Reds. He struck out five.
Making his regular-season debut with the Red Sox, Gray labored through the first inning, needing 35 pitches to get through the frame while allowing two runs. Gray allowed at least one run in each of the first three innings, including a solo home run by Sal Stewart in the third. The right-hander also gave up a career-high 25 homers in 32 starts last year with St. Louis. Gray will look to be more efficient in his next scheduled start against the Padres next weekend.

Red Sox's Sonny Gray: Final spring start his best
Gray allowed two runs on four hits while striking out nine over six innings in Sunday's spring start against the Pirates.
Gray needed a quality effort after a rough stretch to start the Grapefruit League. The right-hander entered his final spring outing having allowed six runs (6.23 ERA) on 10 hits and seven walks over 8.2 innings. Gray responded with his best performance of the spring, which should allay concerns as he prepares to start the second game of the regular season, Saturday on the road against Cincinnati.

Red Sox's Sonny Gray: Ineffective in Boston debut
Gray allowed two runs on three hits and two walks while striking out one over 1.1 innings in Saturday's Grapefruit League start against Minnesota.
Gray was on the mound in game action for the first time in a Red Sox uniform, but it wasn't exactly an impressive debut. He worked out of a two-out, two-on jam in the first inning but was touched for a home run in his second frame and removed with one out after 31 pitches, just 13 in which went for strikes. On the bright side, Gray did deploy all of the pitches in his arsenal as he focuses on getting ready for Opening Day.
