Cardinals' Sonny Gray: Strikes out six in win
Gray (12-6) allowed three runs on six hits and a walk while striking out six over five innings to earn the win over the Rays on Thursday.
Gray wasn't dominant, but this was a much better effort than his last start, when he allowed six runs over five innings in a loss to the Yankees. Gray has given up 12 runs (11 earned) across 24 innings over his four starts in August, numbers right in line with his overall performance this year. He's at a 4.33 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 161:25 K:BB in 145.1 innings through 26 starts. The right-hander has a favorable matchup coming next week, as he's projected for a home start versus the Pirates.

Cardinals' Sonny Gray: Takes sixth loss Saturday
Gray (11-6) took the loss Saturday, allowing six runs on nine hits and two walks over five innings against the Yankees. He struck out seven.
Gray was knocked around early, giving up two runs in the first inning and allowing runs in three of his five frames overall. The veteran had looked sharp in his previous three outings, posting a 2.37 ERA and 0.89 WHIP across 19 innings, but Saturday's start halted that momentum. For the year, the right-hander carries a 4.30 ERA and 1.19 WHIP through 140.1 innings in 25 starts.

Cardinals' Sonny Gray: Goes seven innings in win
Gray (11-5) allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits and a walk while striking out seven over seven innings to earn the win over the Cubs on Sunday.
Gray has opened August with a pair of strong starts, allowing just three runs (two earned) over 14 innings while racking up 15 strikeouts. Matt Shaw's two-run home run in the fifth inning was the only damage on Gray's line in this contest. Gray is now at a 4.06 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 148:22 K:BB through 135.1 innings over 24 starts this season. The veteran right-hander's next start is projected to be at home versus the Yankees.

Cardinals' Sonny Gray: Nearly untouchable in no-decision
Gray allowed one run on one hit and one walk while striking out eight over seven innings in a no-decision versus the Dodgers on Monday.
Gray brought one of his best outings of the season, with only a Freddie Freeman solo shot in the fourth inning marring his line. This was a positive sign, as Gray allowed 26 runs (24 earned) over 27.2 innings across his six starts in July, including a pair of 11-hit outings, though his 32:3 K:BB last month suggests a bit of misfortune was in the mix. He's now at a 4.21 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 141:21 K:BB through 128.1 innings across 23 starts this season. Gray's next start is expected to be another tough one this weekend at home versus the Cubs.

Cardinals' Sonny Gray: Hit around again in fifth loss
Gray (10-5) took the loss Tuesday against the Marlins, allowing three runs on eight hits and one walk in five innings. He struck out five.
Gray continues to get hit around quite a bit, having now yielded at least eight knocks in three consecutive starts. While he's managed to amass at least five strikeouts and walk one or fewer in six straight outings, the 35-year-old veteran right-hander doesn't have a quality start since pitching a shutout in Cleveland during his June 27 appearance. Gray owns a mediocre 4.38 ERA over 121.1 innings, but his strong 1.22 WHIP and 133:20 K:BB offer some reasons for optimism. A daunting task awaits him against the Dodgers in Los Angeles early next week.

Cardinals' Sonny Gray: Gets major run support in win
Gray (10-4) picked up the win Thursday against the Padres despite giving up seven runs (six earned) on 11 hits and no walks over five innings. He struck out five.
The veteran right-hander was able to notch his 10th win of the campaign even though he gave up 11 hits and at least six earned runs for a second straight start. Since throwing a complete-game shutout June 27 in Cleveland, Gray has scuffled to an 8.34 ERA, 1.63 WHIP and 27:2 K:BB in his last five starts. The poor stretch has inflated his ERA to 4.33, though he still has a 1.19 WHIP and 128:19 K:BB across 116.1 innings.
