Astros' Jose Altuve: Played through painful foot injury
Altuve said during the final weekend of the regular season that he played through a "pretty painful" right foot injury and would visit with doctors in the offseason before determining a treatment plan, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.
Altuve injured his foot in mid-September and missed one game before gutting it out over the final two weeks of the regular season. It's unclear whether Altuve has met with doctors yet to have the foot examined. Altuve finished the 2025 season with a .265/.329/.442 batting line, 26 home runs and 10 stolen bases over 155 games. The 35-year-old split his time fairly evenly between second base, left field and designated hitter, and it's uncertain where the Astros will have Altuve slotted in in 2026.

Astros' Jose Altuve: Taking seat Sunday
Altuve is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Angels.
With Houston having been officially eliminated from playoff contention following Saturday's action, Altuve and other key regulars will sit for the season finale. Brice Matthews will step in at second base in place of Altuve, who has hit .265 with 26 home runs, 10 stolen bases, 77 RBI and 80 runs over 155 games on the campaign.

Astros' Jose Altuve: Records 10th steal
Altuve went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, one RBI and one stolen base in Sunday's 7-3 loss to the Mariners.
This was Altuve's second multi-hit effort in a row but just his fourth such game in all of September. The 35-year-old is batting just .203 (13-for-64) over 18 games this month, adding three home runs and 10 RBI in that span. For the season, he's posted a .265/.327/.444 slash line with 26 homers, 75 RBI, 78 runs scored and 10 steals across 150 contests.

Astros' Jose Altuve: Tags deGrom for two-run HR
Altuve went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run Wednesday in a 5-2 victory against the Rangers.
Altuve's lone hit was a two-run homer off Jacob deGrom in the third inning that snapped a 2-2 tie. The veteran second baseman hasn't hit well in September -- he's at a .170 batting average through 15 games -- but he has gone deep three times and racked up nine RBI. With 26 homers on the campaign, Altuve has long surpassed the 20 home runs he swatted across 153 regular-season contests last year.

Astros' Jose Altuve: Rejoining lineup Monday
Altuve (foot) will start at second base and bat cleanup in Monday's game against the Rangers, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.
Altuve was held out for Sunday's 8-3 loss to Atlanta after he was still experiencing soreness on the bottom of his right foot following his early exit a day earlier, but the one start off appears to have provided sufficient healing time for the 35-year-old. The Astros' decision to use him at second base rather than at designated hitter in his return to the lineup supports the notion that he's feeling healthy heading into a six-game homestand against the Rangers and Mariners this week.

Astros' Jose Altuve: Not starting Sunday
Altuve (foot) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against Atlanta, and manager joe Espada said that the 35-year-old is still feeling "pretty sore" as he continues to be evaluated by team doctors, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.
The 35-year-old exited Saturday's 6-2 win due to right foot discomfort and continues to manage the injury Sunday. Altuve will miss at least one start, and it remains to be seen if he'll be available off the bench for the series finale. Yordan Alvarez will serve as Houston's designated hitter Sunday, and Zach Cole will pick up a start in left field.

Altuve was removed from Saturday's game against Atlanta due to right foot discomfort, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
Altuve was replaced at second base by Ramon Urias in the bottom of the third inning. Prior to his exit, Altuve went 1-for-2 with a single. More will likely be known about the extent of his injury after he's further evaluated.

Astros' Jose Altuve: Belts homer No. 25
Altuve went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a second run scored in Friday's 11-3 win over Atlanta.
The 35-year-old took Dane Dunning deep in the sixth inning, giving Altuve his 25th homer of the season -- the fourth time he's reached that milestone in his career. He's been struggling down the stretch, batting just .146 (6-for-41) so far in September, but Altuve will remain an everyday player for the Astros as they battle the Mariners down the stretch for the AL West crown.
