  • Astros' Jon Singleton: Back with Astros

Singleton agreed to a minor-league contract with the Astros on Tuesday, Ari Alexander of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

The first baseman elected to become a free agent after being designated for assignment by Houston last week, but he's returned to the organization on a minor-league deal. Singleton has appeared in just three big-league games this season but has seen plenty of action at Triple-A, posting a .224/.373/.451 slash line and slugging 16 homers in 73 contests.

  • Astros' Jon Singleton: Outrighted to Triple-A

Singleton cleared waivers Thursday and was sent outright to Triple-A Sugar Land.

Singleton appeared in three games during his week-long stint with the Astros, going 1-for-9 at the plate before being designated for assignment. He'll officially remain in the organization after passing through waivers unclaimed, and his .887 OPS at Sugar Land will keep him in consideration for a promotion if the Astros' bench depth is tested again later this season.

  • Astros' Jon Singleton: Dropped from 40-man roster

The Astros designated Singleton for assignment Monday.

Singleton's stint with the big club lasted just one week, with the 33-year-old first baseman appearing in three contests and going 1-for-9 at the plate. Assuming Singleton clears waivers, he'll have the ability to elect free agency, though his familiarity with the Houston organization could compel him to accept an outright assignment to Triple-A Sugar Land with the hope of earning another look with the big club down the road.

  • Astros' Jon Singleton: Back in majors

The Astros selected Singleton's contract from Triple-A Sugar Land on Sunday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

The veteran first baseman inked a minor-league deal with Houston just under a month ago and will now receive his first look in the majors of 2025. After being let go by the Astros at the end of spring training, Singleton joined the Mets on a minor-league pact before being released in late June. He's played 73 games at the Triple-A level between the two organizations this year and has 16 homers and an .824 OPS.

Singleton signed a minor-league contract with the Astros on Sunday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Singleton was released from his minor-league contract with the Mets on Monday after batting .213 with a 12 home runs, 42 RBI, 37 runs scored and one stolen base over 55 games with Triple-A Syracuse this season. The 33-year-old first baseman will begin his third stint in the Astros organization after previously seeing big-league action with Houston in 2014 and 2015 and 2023 and 2024.

  • Mets' Jon Singleton: Gets minor-league deal

The Mets signed Singleton to a minor-league contract Wednesday.

Singleton was released by the Astros in late March after failing to make their Opening Day roster but didn't have to wait long to find another organization. • Jon Singleton: Parts ways with Houston

Singleton cleared waivers and was released by the Astros on Tuesday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

The 33-year-old failed to make Houston's Opening Day roster and will now explore his options in free agency. If Singleton is unable to find a better landing spot, it's possible he returns to the Astros on a minor-league deal. He had a .707 OPS with 13 homers in 119 regular-season games in 2024.

  • Astros' Jon Singleton: Won't make Opening Day roster

The Astros have informed Singleton that he isn't going to be on the major-league roster to begin the season, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Singleton struggled at the plate this spring, slashing .171/.239/.195 with no homers and 10 strikeouts over 46 at-bats. He had been in the running to back up Christian Walker at first base. • Astros' Jon Singleton: Showing improved defesne

Singleton made a few strong defensive plays in Friday's Grapefruit League game, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Singleton lost roughly 25 pounds this offseason and manager Joe Espada had positive remarks about Singleton's play in the field, noting that he looked more athletic and fluid at first base. His ability to field the position will be a key to earning a bench role this spring, as he had negative eight defensive runs saved in 2024 as Houston's primary first baseman. With the addition of Christian Walker, Singleton would be limited to small-side platoon at-bats at most during the regular season.
