Top Giancarlo Stanton News

  • Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Absent from lineup

Stanton is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Red Sox.

Stanton is slashing an absurd .390/.490/.927 with seven home runs in August, but Aaron Judge (elbow) remains limited to designated hitter duties and the Yankees aren't comfortable playing Stanton in right field every day. Cody Bellinger will be in right field for Friday's contest.

  • Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Plays hero off bench

Stanton slugged a pinch-hit, two-run home run in the 10th inning of Wednesday's 6-4 win over the Rays.

Coming off the bench to face Tampa Bay closer Pete Fairbanks in a 3-3 tie, Stanton crushed a fastball to left field with an exit velocity of 108.1 mph. It was part of a barrage that has seen the Yankees become the first team since the 1999 Reds to homer 14 times in a two-game span, per Andy Nesbitt of SI.com. Stanton's more than done his part with three of those long balls, and through 14 games in August he's slashing a stunning .432/.523/1.027 with seven homers and 17 RBI.

  • Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Goes deep twice in rout

Stanton went 2-for-4 with two home runs and four RBI in Tuesday's 13-3 win over the Rays.

It was Stanton's 37th career multi-homer game and his first such effort of the season. The veteran slugger has logged at least one hit in six of his last seven outings, and he's been tearing the cover off the ball since the beginning of July. Stanton is batting .327 with 14 homers, three doubles and 35 RBI over his last 110 at-bats (34 games).

  • Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Rejoining lineup Tuesday

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said in his appearance on Jomboy Media's "Talkin' Yanks" podcast that Stanton (soreness) will start in right field and bat cleanup Tuesday versus the Rays.

Stanton had been held out of the lineup for the previous three games while dealing with general soreness, but he served as a pinch hitter during Sunday's St. Louis and will return to right field Tuesday following a team off day Monday. Boone also noted that Stanton won't be in the lineup Wednesday against Tampa Bay prior to the team's four-game series against the Red Sox that begins Thursday.

  • Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Sitting again Sunday

Stanton (soreness) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cardinals but said he's available to pinch hit off the bench, Greg Joyce of the New York Post reports.

The veteran slugger is sitting for a third straight game after making four starts in the right field over a five-game stretch, which marked the first time that he had played the field since 2023. Stanton is apparently dealing with some soreness, though both he and manager Aaron Boone declined to offer any specifics. The Yankees have a team day off Monday before Tuesday's game in Tampa Bay, and it remains to be seen if he'll be cleared to return to the outfield for that two-game series. Since returning from the injured list in early August, Aaron Judge has been limited to serving as the designated hitter after receiving an elbow injection, and the reigning MVP has understandably been prioritized at the DH spot over Stanton.

  • Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Absent from lineup again

Stanton isn't in the starting lineup for Saturday's matchup versus St. Louis.

Stanton is beginning the day on the bench for a second straight day despite hitting very well of late, as he's posted a 1.103 OPS with eight homers and 20 RBI over 22 contests since the All-Star break. A part-time role may be the necessary norm for him until Aaron Judge is able to return to playing the outfield. Stanton has been getting starts in right field recently, but Jose Caballero will man that position for the second straight game Saturday.

  • Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Not in Friday's lineup

Stanton is not in the Yankees' starting lineup against the Cardinals on Friday.

Stanton will be on the bench to begin Friday's game while Aaron Judge serves as the designated hitter and Jasson Dominguez, Trent Grisham and Jose Caballero start in the outfield from left to right. Stanton has a 1.102 OPS with seven home runs and 17 RBI since July 25 and has recorded a hit in each of the last 15 games he's started.

  • Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Goes yard in four-hit attack

Stanton went 4-for-5 with a home run, a double and three RBI in Tuesday's 9-1 win over the Twins.

The four hits established a season high for the 35-year-old veteran slugger, who matched a season high in RBI while launching his 12th homer of the year. Stanton has now played right field in four games, and his move back to the outfield should bode well for his chances of seeing more playing time down the stretch. He's slashing a potent .320/.391/.699 with each of his 12 long balls, three doubles and 31 RBI over 115 plate appearances since the start of July.

  • Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Slugs 11th homer

Stanton went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's 6-2 win over the Twins.

The New York veteran started in right field for the second time this season and launched a 399-foot solo shot off Minnesota starter Zebby Matthews in the third. Stanton has been a reliable bat since returning from elbow injuries June 16, slashing .281/.362/.548 with 31 RBI and 19 runs scored in 152 plate appearances across 41 games; however, he is mired in a part-time role because Aaron Judge (elbow) occupies the designated hitter spot while nursing back to full health.

  • Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Back on bench after outfield start

Stanton is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Astros.

He was on the bench for three straight games following Aaron Judge's return from the injured list Tuesday, but Stanton rejoined the starting nine in right field Saturday. His seven-inning appearance was his first defensive action since the 2023 season, and right field looks as though it will be his primary path to playing time in the short term while Judge's elbow temporarily limits him to DH duties. According to Max Goodman of NJ.com, manager Aaron Boone said he "flirted" with the idea of handing Stanton a second straight start in the outfield Sunday, but the Yankees will take a more cautious approach with the historically injury-prone slugger.

  • Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Could play outfield Saturday

Manager Aaron Boone said Friday that there's a "good chance" Stanton starts in the outfield Saturday against Houston, Max Goodman of NJ.com reports.

Stanton has exclusively played DH this season after dealing with tennis elbow in both of his arms throughout the spring and portions of the summer. It appears as though he's feeling well enough to start playing defense, which should open up more opportunities for Stanton to make the lineup while Aaron Judge is limited to DH. Stanton has been out of the starting nine in three consecutive games, including Friday's series opener against the Astros.
