The Pirates announced Friday they cut 12 players from major-league camp.
They optioned Bobby LaFromboise to Triple-A, while reassigning Deolis Guerra, Gorkys Hernandez, Charlie Leesman, Brad Lincoln, Steve Lombardozzi, Brent Morel, Gustavo Nunez , Deibinson Romero, Jose Tabata, Sebastian Valle and Josh Wall to minor-league camp.

Nunez struggled in Triple-A, hitting .194 in 61 games. The 25-year-old is considered to have a strong glove.

Nunez begins rehab stint

MLB.com reports Pirates shortstop Gustavo Nunez, on the 60-day disabled list, began a rehab assignment in the Gulf Coast League Monday. Nunez has yet to play this season after having surgery on his right ankle in February. "We're just happy to finally get him on the field," manager Clint Hurdle said.
