Carrasco elected to become a free agent Monday, Jesus Cano of The Athletic reports.
Carrasco has again decided to become a free agent in lieu of an outright assignment by Atlanta. It's the third time he's been booted of the club's 40-man roster and he quickly re-signed the first two times. Carrasco is a good bet to re-up with Atlanta again, though he will have the ability to negotiate with all teams.

He'll give up his spot on the roster and in the bullpen to left-hander Dylan Lee (personal), who was reinstated from the paternity list. After being called up from Triple-A Gwinnett last Thursday, Carrasco went on to toss a scoreless inning out of the bullpen against the Nationals later that day but didn't make any appearances beyond that. Assuming he clears waivers and doesn't elect free agency, Carrasco will likely return to Gwinnett, where he'll presumably slot back into the rotation.

Coming off a 2025 season in which he posted a 7.09 ERA over 11 appearances (nine starts) in 45.2 innings in the big leagues, Carrasco was forced to settle for a minor-league deal with Atlanta this winter. Braves' Carlos Carrasco: Shelled by former club
Carrasco allowed six runs on six hits and three walks while striking out two batters over two innings in a no-decision against the Mets on Wednesday.
Facing the team he pitched for from 2021 to 2023, Carrasco was unable to reach the third frame. The Mets got to him for three runs in each of the first two innings, with the biggest blow being a Juan Soto two-run homer. Carrasco needed 67 pitches -- only 36 of which were strikes -- to retire six batters, and he gave up four extra-base hits. After notching a quality start against the Reds in his Atlanta debut July 31, the veteran righty has surrendered 12 runs over 7.2 innings in his subsequent two outings. His season ERA now stands at 7.09 across 45.2 frames between Atlanta and the Yankees, and it's fair to wonder how much the 38-year-old has left in the tank.

Carrasco will be awarded a second start for Atlanta after he came over in a trade with the Yankees and impressed in his team debut last Thursday. He took a no-decision in Atlanta's 12-11 win over the Reds that day, covering six innings and allowing three earned runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out five.
