It was encouraging to see Jansen turn in a clean inning Thursday, after he had given up a run in two of his last three appearances. The veteran closer has now converted 15 of his 19 save chances this season, posting a 3.86 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 37:20 K:BB across 32.2 innings.

Tigers' Kenley Jansen: Allows run but secures 14th save
Jansen allowed a run on a hit and two walks across an inning of relief but managed to secure the save in Tuesday's 6-4 victory over the Guardians.
Jansen entered in the top of the ninth inning staked to a 6-3 lead. It was a struggle for Detroit's closer, as he needed 29 pitches to retire three batters. The subpar outing was still enough for the veteran reliever to record his 14th save of the season, and he's been mostly good lately with a 2.00 ERA and 14 strikeouts across 10 innings in his last 10 appearances. Jansen has no real competition for the closer role at the moment, which gives him fantasy value even though he's not the same dominant force he was earlier in his career.

Tigers' Kenley Jansen: Strikes out three, earns win Sunday
Jansen (3-4) struck out the side in a clean inning of relief and earned the win in Sunday's 3-1, 10-inning victory over the Giants.
Jansen worked the bottom of the ninth inning and needed 15 pitches to tally three strikeouts and keep the game tied 1-1. The veteran reliever then earned the win when Detroit scored twice in the top of the 10th, with Tyler Holton coming on for the save. Jansen got through the top of the ninth inning of a 3-3 game without any problems, but things came unraveled in the 10th. The veteran started the frame by allowing a walk, a single and a three-run home run. The rough outing pushed Jansen's ERA from 4.26 up to 5.31. It's been a poor campaign overall with four blown saves and now four losses as well. He's become increasingly hard to trust in fantasy leagues.

Now that he's had time to rest and recover, Jansen should slot back in as Detroit's closer, and he can still be an effective pitcher at this stage of his long career when healthy, as he demonstrated last season with a 2.59 ERA and 0.95 WHIP across 59 innings with the Angels.

The veteran right-hander landed on the injured list in late May due to right pelvic inflammation, but he's back on the active roster after spending the 15-day minimum on the shelf. Tigers' Kenley Jansen: Expected back Friday
Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said Thursday that Jansen (pelvis) remains on track to be activated from the 15-day injured list Friday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
Hinch admitted that Jansen was "rusty" during his one and only rehab outing with Triple-A Toledo on Wednesday, yielding three earned runs while recording only two outs. However, the right pelvic inflammation that sent Jansen to the IL last month was not an issue, so the veteran reliever will return Friday in Cleveland when first eligible. Jansen has had an up-and-down 2026 campaign with a 4.80 ERA and four blown saves, but there's a good chance he'll get another opportunity to serve as the Tigers' primary closer.

Jansen (pelvis) retired two batters -- one via strikeout -- and yielded three earned runs on two hits, one walk and a wild pitch during his rehab appearance Wednesday with Triple-A Toledo.
Jansen took the hill for his first game action since May 27, when he exited early in an appearance against the Angels due to a right groin injury, which was relabeled as pelvic inflammation upon his move to the injured list a day later. The right-hander was able to put away the first two batters he faced on just four pitches, but he then allowed the next three hitters to reach base before he was lifted from the contest. Jansen spotted just 12 of his 22 pitches for strikes on the evening, so the Tigers may want to see him show more efficiency in another rehab appearance before bringing him back from the IL.
