  • Alex Nylander LW | CGY

Flames' Alexander Nylander: Inks two-way deal

Nylander signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Flames on Friday, per Pat Steinberg of QR Calgary 770 AM.

Nylander has been participating in Calgary's training camp on a tryout basis. Although he's impressed the Flames enough to earn a contract, it still remains to be seen if he'll make Calgary's Opening Night roster. Given that his new contract is a two-way agreement, it wouldn't be shocking if the Flames opt to send him to the minors. He had 24 goals and 53 points in 65 regular-season outings with AHL Toronto in 2025-26.

  • Sharks' Macklin Celebrini: Named captain

Celebrini was named the Sharks' captain Friday.

San Jose's previous captain was Logan Couture, who has one season remaining on his eight-year, $64 million contract but announced his retirement in April 2025 due to a groin injury. Celebrini is the future of the Sharks after signing a five-year, $94 million contract that won't begin until the 2027-28 campaign. While his upcoming $18.8 million cap hit is unquestionably huge, the 20-year-old demonstrated that he can live up to it by scoring 45 goals and 115 points in 82 regular-season appearances last campaign. Celebrini should be one of the league's top forwards for years to come.

  • Kings' Mats Zuccarello: Likely to play Saturday

Zuccarello (shoulder) is probable for Saturday's preseason game against Anaheim, per Zach Dooley of the Kings' official site.

Zuccarello was a full participant in Friday's practice, but he still hasn't been given final clearance to play Saturday. Even if he ends up missing the upcoming exhibition tilt against Anaheim, Zuccarello appears to be on track to play in the Kings' season opener against Colorado on Wednesday.

  • Dante Fabbro D | CLB

Blue Jackets' Dante Fabbro: Placed on injured reserve

Fabbro (upper body) was placed on injured reserve by the Blue Jackets on Friday.

Fabbro sustained an upper-body injury during Monday's preseason game against the Red Wings, and the Blue Jackets indicated Wednesday that he could be in danger of missing Opening Night against the Sabres on Oct. 1. It appears as though the defenseman be sidelined for the start of the regular season after landing on injured reserve, and it's not yet clear when the team expects him to return, but the Blue Jackets could be shorthanded on their blue line since Damon Severson's (shoulder) status is uncertain ahead of Opening Night.

  • Mikael Pyyhtia LW | CLB

Blue Jackets' Mikael Pyyhtia: On non-roster injured reserve

Pyyhtia (lower body) was put on non-roster injured reserve Friday.

Pyyhtia sustained the injury during Tuesday's preseason game against Buffalo. Putting him on non-roster injured reserve suggests that he isn't expected to be ready for the beginning of the campaign. Pyyhtia is likely to report to AHL Cleveland once he's recovered from his current injury.

  • Predators' Hunter Skinner: Waived by Nashville

Skinner was placed on waivers by the Predators on Friday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.

Skinner signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Predators in July, and he'll presumably begin the 2026-27 regular season in the minors if he clears waivers. He made 60 regular-season appearances with AHL Springfield last year and recorded seven goals, 12 assists and 61 PIM.

  • Blue Jackets' Colton White: Put on waivers

White was put on waivers by Columbus on Friday, per Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports.

White had a goal and seven points in 30 regular-season outings with AHL Utica in 2025-26. He also had four assists in 23 regular-season appearances with New Jersey last campaign. The 29-year-old is likely to begin the upcoming season in the minors.

  • Jett Woo D | ANA

Ducks' Jett Woo: Placed on waivers

Woo was put on waivers by Anaheim on Friday, per Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports.

Woo had two goals, 10 points and 92 PIM in 43 AHL regular-season outings between Abbotsford and San Jose. The 26-year-old hasn't made his NHL debut and is projected to open the upcoming campaign in the minors.

  • Ducks' Corey Schueneman: On waivers

Schueneman was waived by Anaheim on Friday, per Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports.

Schueneman had six goals and 31 points in 71 regular-season AHL appearances between Springfield and Hershey in 2025-26. The 31-year-old blueliner also has two goals and seven points in 35 career regular-season NHL games, but he didn't log any time at the top level in 2025-26.

  • Jiri Patera G | BOS

Bruins' Jiri Patera: Lands on waivers

Patera was placed on waivers by the Bruins on Friday for the purpose of assignment to AHL Providence.

Patera joined the Bruins on a one-year, two-way contract during the offseason and will head to the minors to begin the regular season, assuming he clears waivers. He made 30 regular-season appearances with AHL Abbotsford last year and went 12-14-4 with a 2.63 GAA and .910 save percentage.
