  • Blues' Jordan Binnington: Struggles against Avalanche

Binnington stopped 30 of 36 shots in Saturday's 6-1 loss to the Avalanche.

Playing the second game of the Blues' season-opening back-to-back was always going to be a tall task. Factor in that it was a road game against one of the league's top offenses, and it was a recipe for disaster for Binnington. The optics aren't great for the veteran netminder after Joel Hofer shut out Dallas on Friday. Binnington has been trending toward a platoon or a backup role for a while, and he'll need to take advantage of his chances to avoid a total collapse in playing time. The Blues wrap up their road trip in Chicago on Tuesday, though that would seem likely to be a start for Hofer.

  • Devils' Nico Daws: Beaten six times Saturday

Daws stopped 26 of 32 shots in Saturday's 6-0 loss to the Islanders.

Daws kept the game scoreless through the first period but couldn't hold on the rest of the way, allowing three goals in each of the subsequent two frames -- including a power-play goal in the second period and a shorthanded goal in the third. Saturday was Daws' first start of the season after Jake Allen handled New Jersey's opener against Philadelphia, and while one game isn't enough to draw meaningful conclusions, it wouldn't be surprising if he stays as the Devils' No. 2 goaltender behind Allen for the foreseeable future.

  • Ilya Sorokin G | NYI

Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Posts impressive 37-save shutout

Sorokin stopped all 37 shots he faced in Saturday's 6-0 win over the Devils.

Sorokin was perfect in the Islanders' home opener, turning aside seven shots in the first period before his offense broke through three times in the second. He remained sharp as New Jersey generated 30 shots over the final 40 minutes and finished 0-for-5 on the power play. The shutout was Sorokin's 30th career blanking, establishing a new Islanders franchise record. It was also the first win for Sorokin this season, who has allowed just two goals on 63 shots to open the 2026-27 campaign.

  • Sabres' Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen: Gets first win

Luukkonen made 12 saves in a 4-3 win over Chicago on Saturday.

Luukkonen is kryptonite to Chicago -- he's now 7-0-0 in his career against the team. But he's still finding his feet this season. UPL has allowed eight goals in two games (1-1-0), and his 4.03 GAA and .784 save percentage are a touch queasy. Backup Colten Ellis will get a shot at the blue paint soon and Alex Lyon (upper body) isn't supposed to miss much time. Luukkonen needs to lay down some strong performances to keep the net.

  • Avalanche's Mackenzie Blackwood: Cruises to win Saturday

Blackwood allowed one goal on 26 shots in Saturday's 6-1 win over the Blues.

The Blues were on the second half of a back-to-back, and the Avalanche capitalized on it. Blackwood did much better in this game than in his first start of the year, when he allowed four goals on 31 shots against the Kings on Wednesday. He's made both starts for the Avalanche this year, but it's unclear if that's part of a larger trend for him to function as the starter. Blackwood and Scott Wedgewood should split the next two games, as the Avalanche are set to visit the Jets on Wednesday and the Flames on Thursday in a pair of winnable matchups.

  • Maple Leafs' Sergei Bobrovsky: Doing his part as team starts to gel

Bobrovsky made 26 saves Saturday in a 3-2 loss to the Senators.

Bobrovsky remains winless in two starts this season with a 3.06 GAA and .887 save percentage. His stat line is more indicative of a team needing to gel in front of him than a condemnation of his effort or skill. Bob is doing his part, and those numbers will improve once the team clicks.

  • Ilya Nabokov G | COL

Avalanche's Ilya Nabokov: Shutout in AHL debut

Nabokov recorded a 32-save shutout in AHL Colorado's 2-0 win over Tucson on Saturday.

Nabokov was making his AHL debut, and he made it a memorable one. The 23-year-old goalie came over from the KHL in the offseason after being a second-round pick in 2024. Nabokov will work on his development in the AHL until a spot opens up for him on the Avalanche's roster.

  • Bruins' Michael DiPietro: Falls short against Wild

DiPietro stopped 26 of 29 shots in Saturday's 4-1 loss to the Wild. The fourth goal was an empty-netter.

The Wild controlled the last two periods, but DiPietro put in a fairly good effort. The 27-year-old netminder is filling an NHL role on a full-time basis for the first time. DiPietro has some fantasy upside in more favorable matchups than this one, but his playing time could be limited to 20-25 games as Jeremy Swayman's backup. The Bruins don't have a back-to-back over the next week, so it's unclear if DiPietro will get another chance to resume the hunt for his first win in the near future.

  • Wild's Jesper Wallstedt: Strong in Saturday's win

Wallstedt stopped 26 of 27 shots in Saturday's 4-1 win over the Bruins.

Boston was on the second half of a back-to-back, which may have made things a little easier for Wallstedt. He delivered a second good performance to open the season, as the 23-year-old is looking more than ready to handle a starter's workload in the absence of Filip Gustavsson. Wallstedt has given up just two goals on 47 shots in his pair of wins to start 2026-27. The Wild begin a three-game road trip in Buffalo on Tuesday.

  • Senators' Linus Ullmark: Strong when game on line

Ullmark made 27 saves in a 3-2 win over Toronto on Saturday.

Ullmark was strong when he needed to be, especially in the second period when he stretched to get a toe on a great shot by William Nylander to keep the score knotted 2-2. Ullmark's overall stat line last year was mid, but he sparkled with a 14-4-3 record, 2.43 GAA and .904 save percentage in his final 21 starts after returning from a mental health leave. He's the key to the team's success this season post-Brady Tkachuk.
