Gibson was called up by Washington on Friday.
Gibson has a 3.50 GAA and an .881 save percentage in two appearances with AHL Hershey in 2026-27. The 27-year-old has never played in the NHL, but Washington needed another goaltender because Logan Thompson (lower body) is questionable for Saturday's home game against Buffalo. If Thompson can't play Saturday, then Charlie Lindgren will probably play between the pipes, while Gibson will likely be the understudy.
