Nick Jensen D | ANA
Ducks' Nick Jensen: Sits out Saturday scrimmage
Jensen (lower body) didn't participate in Saturday's scrimmage, per Derek Lee of The Hockey News.
Jensen left Friday's practice early, but he returned to the ice for Saturday's session. The 35-year-old blueliner compiled four goals, 17 points, 36 shots on net, 38 hits and 65 blocked shots across 61 regular-season games with Ottawa in 2025-26. The veteran defenseman signed a one-year deal with the Ducks in the offseason. If he stays healthy, he'll likely see top-four minutes for an Anaheim defense corps that is thin on NHL experience.

Nate Schmidt D | UTA
Mammoth's Nate Schmidt: Sheds non-contact jersey
Schmidt (undisclosed) was a full participant in Saturday's practice, Catherine Bogart of the Mammoth's official site reports.
Schmidt wore a non-contact jersey in the first two on-ice training sessions of camp, but he appears to be fine now. He contributed five goals, 22 points, 86 shots on net, 95 blocked shots and 78 hits in 82 games during the 2025-26 regular season.

Brian Dumoulin D | LA
Kings' Brian Dumoulin: Back at practice
Dumoulin (undisclosed) rejoined his teammates at Friday's practice, Zach Dooley of the Kings' official site reports.
Dumoulin missed the opening day of training camp to undergo additional testing, but he received clearance and feels good to go. The 35-year-old defender recorded two goals, 17 points, 61 shots on net, 89 blocked shots, and 36 hits over 82 outings in the 2025-26 regular season.

Tyson Hinds D | ANA
Ducks' Tyson Hinds: Slated to practice Saturday
Hinds (lower body) is expected to practice Saturday.
Hinds had been limited by a lower-body injury to begin camp. Despite the missed time, the 23-year-old defenseman is still in position to compete for an NHL roster spot. He played in six regular-season games in 2025-26 as well as nine playoff contests, and he'll likely be in the mix to play on the third pairing.

Uvis Balinskis D | FLA
Panthers' Uvis Balinskis: Participating in practice
Balinskis (foot) has skated for the first two days of training camp, David Dwork of The Hockey News reports Friday.
Balinskis' injury was expected to be healed in 4-6 weeks last spring, so it's no surprise he's good for camp. The 30-year-old defenseman had 15 points in 54 outings with the Panthers last year. He's been skating alongside Alex Petrovic in camp, with both of those blueliners likely competing with others for one or two roster spots that probably won't lead to full-time usage.

Niko Mikkola D | FLA
Panthers' Niko Mikkola: Working with Seth Jones in camp
Mikkola (knee) has skated with Seth Jones during the first two days of training camp, David Dwork of The Hockey News reports Friday.
Mikkola was sidelined by a knee injury at the end of 2025-26, but his recovery was expected to be 4-6 weeks at the time. His presence on the ice for training camp suggests he has no lingering injury concerns heading into the new season. The 30-year-old will be in line to fill a shutdown role in the top four again in 2026-27 after posting 11 points, 116 hits, 81 blocked shots and a minus-1 rating over 68 appearances last year.

Brent Burns D | COL
Avalanche's Brent Burns: Ironman streak not in danger
Head coach Jared Bednar told reporters Friday that he will not be the one to end Burns' ironman streak, Jesse Montano of Guerilla Sports reports.
Burns has the longest active ironman streak in the NHL, having played in 1,007 consecutive regular-season games since the streak began in 2013. The defenseman sits 58 games away from surpassing Phil Kessel's record. Bednar's comments indicate that as long as Burns avoids injuries and illness in 2026-27, he will get the chance to set the record. Burns had 35 points, 172 shots on net, 91 blocked shots and a plus-33 rating over 82 regular-season contests in 2025-26, so he could still carve out enough fantasy value to help in a depth capacity.

Luca Cagnoni D | SJ
Sharks' Luca Cagnoni: Impressing in camp
Cagnoni has impressed over the first two days of training camp, Max Miller of NHL.com reports Friday.
Cagnoni appears to be the leading contender for a third-pairing role as the Sharks look to round out their depth. Head coach Ryan Warsofsky has been among those impressed by Cagnoni's performance so far. The 21-year-old defenseman will still need to keep his momentum going through preseason games, but he looks likely to start the year in the NHL.
-
Ian Moore D | ANA
Ducks' Ian Moore: Ruled out 2-4 weeks
Moore will be sidelined for 2-4 weeks with a lower-body injury, the team announced Friday.
Moore logged 67 regular-season games as a rookie last year, producing four goals, eight assists and 42 hits while averaging just 13:40 of ice time. While the 24-year-old blueliner is unlikely to put up huge offensive numbers, he should still surpass those totals in 2026-27 despite starting a little later. Moore's absence is expected to carry into the opening weeks of the regular season, which could open up a roster spot for Tristan Luneau.

Jake Sanderson D | OTT
Senators' Jake Sanderson: Good to go
Sanderson (concussion) is healthy going into training camp, per Claire Hanna of TSN on Thursday.
Sanderson had 14 goals and 54 points in 67 regular-season appearances with Ottawa in 2025-26. He skated alongside Carter Yakemchuk on Thursday, who might end up being Sanderson's defensive partner to start the 2026-27 campaign.
