Rice is not expected to begin the regular season on the commissioner's exempt list, and the NFL will instead make a decision on his status after his legal process has concluded, Mark Maske of The Washington Post reports.

Rice seems unlikely to entirely avoid a suspension for his off-field problems this offseason, but the league isn't expected to intervene until the legal situation pays itself out, which could occur later this year or potentially even be delayed until 2025. He faces eight felony charges in connection with a high-speed, multi-car hit-and-run accident that occurred March 30 in Dallas, including charges of aggravated assault, collision involving serious bodily injury and collision involving injury. As long as Rice is eligible to play, he'll be locked in as a top target for quarterback Patrick Mahomes and will be in prime position to build off his highly successful rookie season, but at some point, it seems all but guaranteed that he'll face a multi-game suspension. The Chiefs brought in wideouts Marquise Brown (shoulder) and Xavier Worthy to join Rice and tight end Travis Kelce atop the receiving corps, but neither seem especially likely to intrude on Rice's workload, as he primarily operates from the slot and on short routes.

Washington signed Tremayne to the practice squad Wednesday.

Tremayne spent all of last season on the Commanders' practice squad after signing as an undrafted free agent in May of 2023. He wasn't able to crack Washington's 53-man roster this time around, and he will reprise his role on the team's taxi squad for the upcoming season.

Tinsley signed with the Commanders' practice squad on Wednesday.

Tinsley wasn't able to make the Commanders' initial 53-man roster after finishing the preseason with six catches (on 13 targets) for 45 yards. He signed with Washington in April of 2023 as an undrafted free agent, and he appeared in two regular-season games during his rookie year, playing three snaps on offense and another seven on special teams.

Allen signed with the Commanders' practice squad Wednesday.

Allen received plenty of praise during training camp from offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury, who compared the 24-year-old wideout's skillset to the 49ers' Deebo Samuel. Allen didn't show that level of production during the Commanders' three preseason games, when he accrued just three catches (on four targets) for 24 yards while adding 17 rushing yards on six carries. Allen spent all of 2023 on Washington's practice squad, but he has yet to play a snap in a regular-season game.

Thomas signed with the Vikings' practice squad Wednesday, Kevin Seifert of ESPN.com reports.

Thomas spent all of 2023 on the Vikings' practice squad, and he will reprise that role for the upcoming season. He logged three catches (on five targets) for 24 yards in Minnesota's preseason opener against Las Vegas on Aug. 10, but he missed the final two exhibition contests due to a concussion he sustained during practice.

Rosemy-Jacksaint signed with the Eagles' practice squad Wednesday.

The 22-year-old wide receiver out of Georgia failed to make the Commanders' initial 53-man roster Tuesday, but he's already found a new home on the Eagles' practice squad. Rosemy-Jacksaint caught 34 passes for 535 yards and four touchdowns during his final collegiate season in 2023.

Aiyuk was not present at the portion of Wednesday's practice open to the media, though head coach Kyle Shanahan said that he's hopeful that the wideout will resume participating soon, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

Shanahan noted Wednesday that Aiyuk has been "cleared by our doctors," per David Lombardi of The Athletic. However, Aiyuk looks like he could be continuing his "hold in" while he seeks a contract extension. While it's notable that Aiyuk is officially healthy enough to practice after having contended with neck and back discomfort during training camp, his lack of a long-term deal clearly remains the true hurdle. The 49ers now have under two weeks remaining before the Sept. 9 season-opening matchup against the Jets, and Aiyuk has yet to practice with the team this summer.

Shaheed (toe) was present for practice Wednesday, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports.

While the extent of his participation is unclear, Shaheed's presence in any capacity is a good sign for the Saints with 11 days to go before their season opener against Carolina. He's dealt with a toe/foot injury for the past couple weeks, after missing time with a hamstring injury early in training camp.

Brown (shoulder) agreed to a contract with the Commanders on Wednesday, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.

Brown was among Houston's roster cuts Tuesday, but he now lands in a spot where he'll have a chance to be a more meaningful contributor. The 28-year-old is coming off consecutive seasons of over 550 receiving yards with the Cowboys in 2022 and Texans in 2023, and Washington has a real need for reliable wideouts behind Terry McLaurin, though rookie third-round pick Luke McCaffrey could also be an option to mix in. Brown missed time in training camp with a shoulder injury after undergoing offseason labrum surgery, but the Commanders expect him to be available Week 1 against Tampa Bay.

Brownlee was waived by the Jets on Wednesday

Brownlee made the initial 53-man roster Tuesday but was subsequently waived to make room for incoming tight end Brenden Bates, whom the Jets claimed on waivers from Chicago on Wednesday. If Brownlee passes through waivers unclaimed, he will likely be added to the Jets' practice squad, where he began his rookie season last year before ultimately dressing for seven regular-season games.
