  • Royce Freeman RB | CHI

Bears' Royce Freeman: Heading to Chicago

The Bears signed Freeman to a contract Wednesday, Kevin Fishbain of The Athletic reports.

Freeman will take the spot on the Bears' roster vacated by Deion Hankins, who was placed on injured reserve due to a shoulder injury that he picked up during Sunday's preseason game against the Bills. Freeman was on the practice squads of the Rams, Bears and Browns in 2024, and last saw regular-season action in 2023 with the Rams, when he rushed for 319 yards and a touchdown on 77 carries across 14 games.

  • Elijah Young RB | BUF

Bills' Elijah Young: Catches on with Buffalo

The Bills signed Young to a contract Wednesday.

Young was let go by the Chiefs on Monday, but it didn't take long for the Western Kentucky running back to find a new team. He should have an opportunity to show off his skillset during the Bills' preseason finale against the Buccaneers on Saturday.

  • Jarveon Howard RB | BUF

    Jarveon Howard: Waived/injured by Bills

The Bills waived/injured Howard (undisclosed) on Wednesday.

Howard was signed by the Bills on Tuesday, but he suffered an injury during practice on the same day. Howard will revert to injured reserve if he clears waivers, which would force him to miss the entire 2025 season unless an injury settlement is reached with the Bills. He has yet to play in an NFL regular-season game since signing with the Packers as an undrafted free agent in May of 2024.

  • De'Von Achane RB | MIA

Dolphins' De'Von Achane: Not practicing Wednesday

Achane (calf) didn't practice Wednesday, Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN.com reports.

Louis-Jacques previously relayed that Achane wasn't likely to practice this week, so we wouldn't expect the running back to play in Saturday's preseason finale against the Jaguars. That said, coach Mike McDaniel indicated that the team's approach in terms of Achane's practice participation this week is "preventative in nature," with Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network having previously noted that the plan is for Miami's lead back to be available for the team's Sept. 7 regular-season opener against the Colts.

  • Commanders' Brian Robinson: Excused from practice

Robinson is not practicing Wednesday, and his absence is excused, Commanders writer Ben Standig reports.

Robinson also sat out Monday's preseason loss to the Bengals, a mutual decision between himself and Washington. Head coach Dan Quinn said Wednesday he hopes for a resolution soon, but Robinson's absence lends further credence to the building rumors that he's been placed on the trade block. Now on the final year of his year of his rookie deal, Robinson is set out to play the 2025 season with a $3.4 million salary, though he carries under $300,000 in dead cap. As a proven between-the-tackles contributor who averaged 4.1 yards per carry over the last three seasons, Robinson figures to draw at least modest interest around the league from teams in need of a competent big-bodied ballcarrier.

  • Jaydon Blue RB | DAL

Cowboys' Jaydon Blue: Back at practice

Blue (heel) participated in Tuesday's training camp practice, Joe Hoyt of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Blue missed the Cowboys' first two preseason games while recovering from a bruised heel, but his participation in team drills Tuesday indicates that he could be available for Friday's preseason finale against the Falcons. The rookie fifth-round pick saw some work with the first-team offense prior to his injury, and once he's fully healthy, he'll compete against Javonte Williams, Miles Sanders and fellow rookie Phil Mafah for snaps out of the backfield.

  • Kevin Harris RB | JAC

Jaguars' Kevin Harris: Signs with Jaguars

The Jaguars signed Harris on Tuesday.

Harris is headed to Jacksonville after having last played with Patriots in 2023, where he carried the ball 16 times for 65 yards and a touchdown in addition to catching three passes for 58 yards. The 24-year-old will face an uphill battle to earn a spot on the team's final roster as they already have a crowded backfield, and he could be a candidate to land on their practice squad.

  • J.J. Taylor RB | HOU

    J.J. Taylor: Gets released

Houston released Taylor on Tuesday, Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Taylor got a combined 10 touches for 29 total yards over the Texans' first two preseason games, but he's heading for free agency ahead of their last preseason contest. He'll have to look for his next opportunity with a different team.

  • 49ers' Patrick Taylor: Will get surgery on shoulder

Taylor will undergo season-ending surgery to repair a fracture in his shoulder, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.

Taylor suffered the injury during the 49ers' preseason game against the Raiders. He was already slated to miss the entire 2025 season after being placed on injured reserve, and the 27-year-old running back will aim to return for the 2026 campaign once he's fully recovered from the procedure.

  • 49ers' Isaac Guerendo: Returns to practice

Guerendo (shoulder) participated in Tuesday's training camp practice, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.

Guerendo suffered a shoulder injury in practice in early August, which caused him to miss the 49ers' first two preseason games. He was back on the field Tuesday and was given the green light to participate in team drills, and Wagoner relays that Guerendo was heavily involved with the offense and on special teams as a kick returner. Barring any setbacks, the 2024 fourth-rounder is on track to be available for Saturday's preseason finale against the Chargers.
